My description and evaluation of the Boss VE-2 unit. Buy on Amazon → → amzn.to/3CUA8ii #BossVe-2 #music #tech #thursdaylearnday #noahgrove #devices #musictechnology
Just got one of these and found a really cool way to use it. If you turn the balance all the way clockwise and set it for a harmony one octave above, you can hit the high notes on falsetto tunes. works quite well. I've also done it an octave lower just to hit the low notes on Folsom Prison Blues.
Hi Noah! Thank you for this video. I am thinking about purchasing this unit to compliment my Boss RC-30 loop station setup. However, I am a bit concerned with how I will go about connecting those two devices. For instance, I typically plug my xlr microphone directly into the Boss RC-30 from a TC Helicon unit. But with the Harmony VE-2, I am not entirely sure how to successfully set that up with my RC-30. Do you think I could connect the harmonist pedal to the RC-30 with the xlr or with a regular 1/4 cable? Any suggestion would be deeply appreciated. Thank you!
Hi Violet! I'm not familiar with the RC-30, but if it has an XLR input, then you should be able to connect it with the VE-2. The VE-2 has an XLR in to receive the microphone input, and an XLR out to send to your PA or amp or anywhere. The VE-2 can't run a 1/4" for mic input/output. The 1/4" ports are just for running an instrument through the VE-2 to provide the unit with some information to help it select appropriate harmonies.
Thanks for the video, I appreciate it. If you were playing a song live, and you want to use reverb and delay for the verses, and harmonies just for the chorus, can you toggle back-and-forth between those two while continuing to play through the song? Other videos I watched made me think that you had to click through reverb/delay, harmonies, then shut the unit off if you wanted to come back to reverb/delay as you enter the next verse? It doesn’t seem like it would work real well in the live setting though, so I’m thinking there must be a way around it? Thanks!
No problem. It's been a while since I used this unit so I'm trying to remember correctly but I believe you can set up to 4 "memories" that you can toggle through with the memory button or with an external foot switch. I believe these memories can contain reverb/delay settings as well as harmony settings.
Nice! Yep you can definitely do that. I always ran this at the end of my pedal chain because I use a looper and I wanted the harmonizer to be able to listen to the loop as well. Mic runs into the VE-2 and then to the PA yep.
Hi! I run my looper through the guitar port so that when my loop is going, the harmonizer can use that audio to help it choose harmonies. You can also use the XLR out on the VE-2 to connect to a looper that has an XLR in. Does that answer your question?
I would go into your VE-2 first or early in the chain. I would want my VE-2 to have a nice strong signal/level from the guitar. But if you’re throwing heavy distortion or something like that might make it harder for VE-2 to evaluate what chords you’re playing. What’s your pedal chain?
@@carlodeluca a little bit of delay and/or reverb shouldn't be a problem, but I'd suggest playing around with it and seeing what results you get with your settings
@@booknoahgrove After? It wouldn’t be cleaner before the effects? Although I know that the VE2 would bypass the guitar, I have an impression that it would affect the sound. I will buy my VE2 tomorrow.
@@angiepearce6479 you can run this into anything that can receive an XLR input. The guitar just runs through so the unit can use the signal, as a quarter inch input/output.
I used it all the time just not in the video as it's a review not a demo. But I made this video a few years ago and I'm sure to include demos now when I make videos like this.
Thanks! Straight forward. Hope you get plenty of gifts.😀👍🤩

No demo? Missed opportunity. Nice overview though. Thx for posting.
I should have, I’ll make one, thanks for the suggestion

@@angga959 I haven't yet, but I'm about to start doing more of these videos. I'll make an updated one within the next few weeks!

Hi can harmonies is set to minor or major key without an instrument or by using bass guitar? Thanks
If it’s a minor key, set the key three half steps higher. For example, if your key is Am, set the key to C. If Bbm, set to C#. If Cm, set to D#.

Can this be used without the harmonies just to add the reverb and effects to your voice?

@@booknoahgrove It’s actually pretty simple. An Acoustic Guitar and a MVave Cube Baby with IRs.
@@carlodeluca I might go after the Cube Baby. VE-2 is going to work best with clean and clear levels from your guitar.

hello can i use piano instead guitar?
should be able to, anything that runs sound through a 1/4 inch instrument cable should work
But what does it sound like?
You’ll never know, muahahaha
What amp do you need for this please
Are you asking about what it needs to power it? Or about speakers/amps used for sound output?
