  • What would the DB&EV look like in 2019.....
    ----
    Some things I forgot to mention in the video:
    Industries out of service: Fleischmanns Gravel and Herzog Scrap
    The RS blew its' prime mover and is out of service. The SW1500 is no currently not needed leaving only the GP9 in service. Since there are only a few industries remaining, this isn't much of a problem.
    The caboose is also mostly out of service, only being used for long reverse moves or MOW operations.
    Freight operations on the remaining industries is now dwindling so the future of freight operations on the DB&EV is not certain. We may see passenger excursions only in the near future.

      Just subscribed! I haven't played Trainz since 2004, but your channel inspired me to jump back into the game and take a whole new creative approach now that I'm older. Would you be able to make a follow up video to your Trainz 2019 early access review? I would love to see if N3V improved the game since then. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help improve my chances of winning a copy of T19 (I would love a physical box copy of the game 😅😁).
      PS: I just started on reviewing your P&B route videos. Can't wait to see how you revisit the route! 👍

    Timber Heritage Association in Samoa, CA is working to one day reopen the 16 miles of former NWP track between Samoa and Eureka for their proposed Humboldt Bay Scenic Railroad, which will be paralleled by the Arcata Bay Trail, and part of the plan is for the rail and trail to share the Eureka Slough bridge in a design that I'm sure will be similar to what you came up with here for the gauntlet bridges.

    This route had really hit home for me, as in my area, a large section of out of service track was turned into a rail trail. Sauk City, WI. "The great Sauk Trail."

    I like the idea to change the appearance of a route to a more modern variant. In the end you could potentially end up with two different routes, a version from the past and one in a more modern shape. There's a German Trainz route which started to resemble the east of Germany prior to the unification, another version of the 'same' layout was turned into a 2000+ kind of route, i.e. DB AG Stations and Trains replaced the DR ones. Keep up the good work, I really enjoy your videos. :-)

    My childhood railroad is right now getting ripped up being turned into a trail... watching you put the trail next to the rails is very nice to see instead of ripping tracks out... I was hoping Fishers, IN would have done the same but they didn’t and I’m very heart broken about it the whole event...

    I’m also adding more equipment to my route, I built a stub end yard at Esopus Valley in the grassy area between the station and road crossing and fenced it in for security. Now I have a place to store coaches and other equipment. I added some heavyweight steel open window coaches to the fleet and a couple more steam locomotives and diesels. Is there a reason there is an an abandoned track going straight in downtown Esopus where the interchange track branches off? Was that the main line continuing East?

  • @MattChaffe
    @MattChaffe 5 років тому

    Oooo a modernizing the DBEV episode 😂 Those are some pretty cool changes you made! Most of the rail trails we have around here are so old themselves that there is barely any remnants of the line other than a few old telegraph poles.

  • @rileyhogan8248

    I know of at least two places rails and roads shared bridges. One is in Tallassee Alabama in the 1880s the city did not want to build another bridge, so the railroad let the city build a road on the already existing bridge, with the railroad putting in tastes to keep people from getting in the tracks. Now that bridge is pedestrian only, with the road and railroad both using different modern bridges.

    I decided to use a little real life inspiration for my mod of the route. I looked at the general area on a map and saw a town called Esopus. I measured the distance west, in Trainz 5 baseboards is 2 miles. I measured 12 miles west, a little further is a town called Whitfield and a bit beyond Mettacahonts. I might take the route as far as Mettacahonts. Where “Fleischmanns” is on the route I’m going to rename High Falls. Beyond Mettacahonts probably won’t be modeled but I’m going to imagine that the route once made its way toward Liberty, NY and connected with the NYO&W which is long gone. Also, my version will imagine that past Mettacahonts, it went through Kerhonkson, Wawarsing, Napanoch, and Ellenville which the NYOW also went through, and then headed west toward Liberty with the NYOW to the south through Fallsburg, and the fictional (NYC?) route through Greenfield Park, Woodbourne, and Loch Sheldrake. I might imagine that the track was removed west of Mettacahonts. So, the current tourist operation is between Esopus Valley and Dry Brook, with a phase 1 extension planned to High Falls, then a rebuilding of the washed out bridge and a phase 2 extension to Whitfield, and possibly Mettacahonts as a final extension. After that will possibly be a rail trail on the old grade. I added baseboards to my copy past the washed out bridge at the same height as that end of the route to extend it several more miles.

  • @robkrasinski6217
    @robkrasinski6217 3 роки тому

    I just recently got back into this and yes, I would like to lengthen the route beyond its current end. I already did several miles so far, to a town called Whitfield. I have rusty rails in place from the other side of the washed out bridge to beyond Whitfield. I looked at a map of the area in New York, and mapped out where this fictional rail line would have went. Fleischmanns I decided to rename High Falls because there already is a Fleischmanns on the Delaware Ulster tourist line east of Arkville, NY. Unlike your vision for the route in the future, in which the line is ripped up past the washed out bridge, my vision is that the rails are left in place and that tourist excursions are extended beyond Dry Brook to High Falls, with a plan in place to rebuild the bridge and extend the operational track to Whitfield with a future extension a few more miles to Mettacahonts, with the line gone beyond that point. For Whitfield station I used Tidewater station by JR with a NYC freight station from the DLS with PC, NYC, WM, and NH box cars parked on a spur track at the freight station since rail service ended that far out in the PC era. They just left the box cars there and never picked them up and now they are stranded with the bridge out.

  • @robkrasinski6217
    @robkrasinski6217 5 років тому

    I have a question, did you ever have any plans to extend the route further beyond the washed out bridge? I am doing that on my copy, I made a few changes on the existing route as well like I placed a Jim Thorpe station in downtown Esopus and pretended it didn’t burn down, but that the city owns it and that it is currently unused. I changed the station for the tourist trains to a different station and named it Esopus Valley. I cleaned up the track to Dry Brook with the smooth tool. Now I’m trying to figure out what the route would look like if it were extended.

    This series was great in my opinion! I would like to see some more fictional shortline routes from you! I have one suggestion, if you were to do some more shortlines, Here in East Tennessee there was a railroad constructed during the turn of the 20th century called the Knoxville, Sevierville and Eastern Railroad (AKA) The Knoxville Slow and Easy. Sadly the tracks were ripped up in the 60s, But I would love to see you make the KS&E as if it were a still operating railroad. Thanks

    A Gauntlet Track is rail-only. It's a bridge with two full sets of rails, turning a double track mainline into(technically) a single-track bridge. The rails use modified frogs at either end that negate the purpose of switches, so crossing between tracks is impossible. So you still have two sets of track, but you've made them fit the confines of a widened single-track bridge. There are none still in use IRL that I know of.

    I'm currently developing a fictional route called "Burnside Suburbia" that is set in the late 2000's/early 2010's. It focuses on a suburban area with a company called "Burnside Municipal Transport Co." operating in it. It owns 3 trolleys.
    Like the DBEV, the future (2019) for BMT is looking pretty bleak. They began to experience their downfall due to two factors:
    1. The opening of "Burnside Car Sales" crippled BMT's ridership.
    2. The three trolleys are old and are nearing the end of their life cycle.
    The CEO has tried to get larger companies to buy them out, but his efforts so far have been unsuccessful. Unless one chooses to, BMT may have to close soon and the rails they ran on would be torn up...

    Just a suggestion that's probably too late, but could you have created a copy of the DBEV route so that you would have two of them and named one 1993 and the other 2019? Then you could have made all the changes in the 2019 version so that all of the work you removed/deleted from the 1993 version wouldn't be lost forever.
    At any rate, I've immensely enjoyed your videos. I had just begun my train sim experience almost 3 years ago by purchasing TS2017. I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of it, but trying to create new routes is not user-friendly and can be very frustrating; heck, just trying to run trains like you would during a model RR ops session is like hand-to-hand combat almost. I happened across one of your videos at the beginning of this year and watching how easy (compared to TS) it is to create/develop a route as well as run trains convinced me to buy T:ANE back in April.
    As expected, my current PC isn't able to handle the graphics very well, so I've been waiting until I was able to replace my PC so that I can run the game w/o any issues. I was finally able to do so 2 nights ago, so once it arrives and I get it running I'll finally begin getting familiar with T:ANE and begin creating my own fictional route--The East Jade Falls Railway (EJFR).
    Thanks for being an inspiration and hopefully I'll catch the next livestream you do.

Actually, the county won and ripped up the tracks along the Ashokan Reservoir for 11 miles severing Kingston from the rest of the railroad. But there's also the washed out bridge, and a few other breaches including erosion under the tracks north of Boiceville (Cold Brook station) and a washout where the ground was washed out from under the tracks. Maybe the track from Highmount to Phoenicia should be saved and restored.
