The best Nessun Dorma is of Corelli.
Corelli was a god.
The best Turandot film-opera ever!!!
FC is simply the best.
What a magnificent performance. The beauty of Corelli's voice and his strong stage presence soars above other tenors.
best best best of times. He was so good that anything you hear that is not from him does not cut it Franco is the one and only and that is it.
He is so handsome with fire of inspiration in eyes. Interesting timbre.
The King of all tenors at his incredible prime!
I honestly think that Corelli is the greatest tenor of all times.
Why? The voice is HUGE, the timbre, the squillo, the throbbing vibrato, the ringing high notes up to D flat when he sang "A te O cara" form Il Puritani.
No one can sing "Nessum Dorma" better than Franco! I love Pavarotti sooo much. But Corelli owns Calaf. Especially the most famous and beautifult tenor aria "Nessum Dorma"
Anyone else notice pitch?
Could be from moving around the stage, in and out of
Monitor range.
Its because he is
@@tboda2621 Maybe, a couple of times there was a bit of control issues, but as you stated it could have been from moving around. However, this is a magnificent performance of this beautiful aria.
1.00 - 1.07 - Now, that right there...THAT is...perfection...what an absolutely breathtaking performance!
I think the greatest Nessun Dorma performance of all.
@racheleleeba Absolutely 100% correct.
People today don't know what they missed and keep harping on Pavarotti
this and Domingo that. Corelli vocally
was the greatest tenor of the past
century and as I've said before his body
of work supports that comment.
Im in heaven- my soul has been kissed.....
when he sings "la luce splenderà" it is so tender it makes me tear...
the finest tenor voice ever!
+Khalid Al-Thani -- Well he was certainly of the finest.
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Certainly the most graceful of the Calaf's...I too, over the years have come to appreciate Corelli
Meglio di così è impossibile! Divino Franco quanta nostalgia ❤
Heroic beyond words.
There are lots of tenors who sing this aria well, but I think Corelli makes a great Calàf. His would have to be my favorite interpretation I've seen so far, perhaps tied with Giacomini.
Breathtaking!!!
You can listen to for hours, you'll never tire. Immense !
I was a super at the Lyric Opera of Chicago when Corelli sang Il Trovatore. I still remember being awe struck!
Quanto eri bravo, quanto eri bello, nessuno dopo di te come te
Absolute beauty - voice and man!
Corelli ,absolutely the most beautiful tenor voice of all time
Dramatic singers seem to sing this song so effortlessly. I always wonder what Corelli would sound like if he were provided with the modern recording studio. Something tells me that the older, more primitive recording actually adds to the majesty of Corelli's voice. I might be absolutely crazy, but hearing Corelli in the 'optimised recording' of today might be a little harsher to the ears because his voice is sooooo powerful. OR it could be even better lol.
a glorious voice, matinee idol looks, dramatic flair. No wonder his legions of fans absolutely worshipped him.
Every time I watch this video, it's like the first time. Corelli's performance and singing to me is the best in this role as much as I love Pav. He is exciting and dramatic, his voice so manly and strong, giving the character a bravery even in the terrible circumstances. Sheer perfection! I regret I never knew of Corelli during his lifetime.
I completely agree with you! I only discovered him 3 years ago, by this same aria! All my life I listened to pop and rock music ! I now regret every minute of it, when I could have been listening to opera and especially this great, great voice! And he was so handsome too!❤😢
"He was the greatest dramatic tenor that ever lived." Luciano Pavarotti
I listened to Corelli's Nessun Dorma in a recording but when he acts the part as well he goes into a higher gear Your hair on the back of your neck stands on end and even with the limitations of 1950's TV you can't take your eyes off him. Many Thanks for this and for the fact that the Nessun Dorma carries on into the next part of the score with Corelli still acting and singer. This is the Calaf Puccini imagined.
He had that kind of voice where you're thinking there's no way he's going to hit those high notes and he would hit them with twice the power and , you know that term where all the notes are long and connected, it slips my mind at the moment.
@btsg I agree with what you've said but don't forget that there are certainly those of us out here that still appreciate the great singers and know the difference between popular and professional. Don't give up hope! The true art of music still exists in the fans of Corelli and other greats like him. We won't let it die.
I cry everytime I listen Corelli's Nessun Dorma, so perfect. He makes it look so easy and imposible for us (not him) even imagining being able to sing it.
Oh GOD, he's so beautiful.... Singing like that and looking like that!! Il piu bello, carisimo maestro!!!!
I can remember as a student not liking Corelli very much. I think back then I preferred the elegance, grace, and musicality of Bjorling and others. But over the years I come back to Corelli's singing and am always amazed. Of course 30 years of hearing bad tenors since then has made me appreciate the technique, power, and shining brilliance he projected. On top of that looking like a matinee idol...! Well, what more could you want? Is this kind of singing gone with the wind?
He had a beautiful voice
It's so wonderful . He was a very great Singer. Thank's for posting. ⚘⚘⚘
My late friend, a tenor who I sang with
for years was at the Met for 3 years after
winning the Met audtions during the60s
in Denver. He first attended Julliard prior
to going to the Met. He had told me when
he started in the chorus he was on stage
24 times when Corelli was singing and
said that he was vocally the best tenor
of the past century. Yes, he had some
off nights, but overall just a phenomenal
voice.
great voice!!
the best deep high voice ive ever heard, wish i could hear it from 5 feet away, but he is dead.
May or may not be of interest to everyone here listening to this great performance. The Metropolitan Opera did not stage a production of Puccini's Turandot for years. They brought Turandot back in 1961 in a new production because they found the two ideal singers for the leading roles, Soprano Birgit Nillson as Turandot and as the Unknown Prince Calaf, Franco Corelli.
Unbeatable !!
So great!
Bravo maestro... bravissimo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE BEST! a vocal beast
Corelli is a god!
The only thing to say is WOW, truly the Best Dramatic voice
Eine wunderbare Stimme!
Pavarotti had a beautiful lyric voice&certainly was impactful on his audience.Corelli was a spinto tenor with a heroic quality&was also impactful on his audience. They both made wonderful contributions to opera.Proclamations are wonderful&make us feel good about ourselves, but proclamations are also rarely accurate. The voice siren in your head tells you that Pav was the best & the voice siren in Corelli fans heads tell them he was the best.Enjoy
Amazing timbre and interpretation, to me - the best Nessun Dorma I've heard so far.
...Unbelievable how many discoveries you can make if you go 50 years back in the history of opera.
super
I am so over joyed that when I typed in Nessun Dorma, Correlli was the second search! I bit upset Jackie Evancho was the first... but at least this is progress. The perception of what Opera actually is will take some time to change. Excellent Maestro.
GRAN MAESTRO FRANCO CORELLI BRAVO!
None of us will ever know what it is that makes him so addictive.
Meraviglioso!!!!! Emozionante!!!!!!!!
WOW!!! Stunning. The best "Nessum Dorma" I've ever heard. Thank you!
Ogni tanto devo passare di qua. Thanks vaimusic for posting
...anch'io. Franco fa bene all'anima!!
Increible poder escuchar a Franco Corelli.
Truer words have never been spoken!
Che bella la televisione italiana un tempo...
BRAVO BRAVO
Maravilloso!!!, Bravoooo!!!!
PERFETTO
Corelli had a large voice with the ability to sing with mezza voce and diminuendo.FC had pretty good control of his instrument. He also preferred his own voice on records than in live performances. He did jokingly state, when co=hosting with Stefan Zucker.'Im always screaming anyway"Many tenors are or were obsessed with being heard.I heard FC in Trovatore at the Met in early 1960s and he really was exceptional.Enjoy
Meraviglioso inimitabile
handsome devil even in this absurd costume.
Il più grande tenore senza dubbio ;)
@jimbral I wish I could of heard him in person.
Anthony Leopardo. Why do you come on to a Franco Corelli video and make a negative comment about Him.Do You not understand that He was and is the greatest tenor EVER.
MAGNIFICO.....BELLO....EL...MUY BELLO....PRECIOSA VOZ......SI SEÑOR.......UNO DE LOS QUE MAS ME GUSTAN..NO SOLO POR ESTO SINO POR MUCHAS COSAS MAS...........PERO COMO PAVAROTTI NO NI DE COÑA
Yes, Corelli was a great admirer (and student from 1963) of Lauri Volpi. While some of their vocal characteristics were quite different, it's a little bit unfortunate IMO that he didn't follow Lauri Volpi's path in terms of repertory (such as Guillaume Tell, La Juive, le Prophète etc...).
Every singer has some weaknesses and the greatest ones are often those which are the most controversial. But I think that today, Corelli's place as one of the greatest tenors of the XX century is secure.
wanderfull
@btsg there is no Franco's my friend...the public has no choice..and in the absence of such talents the industry has the monopoly of many average voices that what defines their success is contacts and agents. But if there was a Franco that game of monopoly would be insubstantial to any effect...the public longs such a voice!
Pavarotti definitely had a beautiful quality of voice & it's fine for him to be your favorite.May I suggest some other tenors that may peak your interest.Lauri Volpi,Mario Filipeschi,Antonio Cortis,,Bjorling,Mario Del Monaco,Lemeshev,&Di Stefano.Enjoy
Pura perfezione!
They were both really great tenors,One lyric,the other spinto.Your'e not a fool.Enjoy
Nessuno strumento può superare la voce umana
soprattutto quela Unica di Franco Corelli!
It's easy to see who Pavarotti's greatest influence was.
He has such an amazing voice and tambre. Good acting skills and studly looks to boot. A bit too heavy on the portamento in my opinion, but still a very well sung nessun dorma.
Corelli has the most beautiful voice of any opera singer ever. That includes females. He is a little flat here sometimes but he is still the best !!!!!
Wow!
Pavarotti is great but for looks and feeling, give me Franco Corelli
Spero non siano state perdute!
Unbelievable
It's unfortunate that they removed the video... :(
