The fake Ryan Philippe character always makes me laugh because in the original I Know what You did Last Summer movie, his character was overly aggressive and quite psychotic. That the whole "we take this to our graves scene" isn't that much different in the actual movie. However the punches, kicks and elbow drop at the school scene was added to hilariously emphasize how much of a psycho his character is.

The main plot is a combination of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, but there are a ton of references to other horror movies that you'll only get if you've seen them all, which I certainly hadn't when I saw this. I actually hadn't seen Scream 2 when I first watched this movie, and so I had the reverse experience of watching that movie and going "Oh, that's what they were referencing!" Like how Sarah Michelle Gellar pushing a bike down the stairs turns into Anna Faris pushing a piano.

Original title of this film was Scream if I Know What you did Last Halloween. The part where they were in the woods is a spoof of the movie is The Blair Witch Project. The c*m part is from American Pie movie. The ending of the film is based from the movie The Usual Suspects

The Blair Witch Project was a big deal when it came out (since its box office success really popularized the "found footage" style of movie), and the "realness" of the main character crying so much that she had a snot bubble in her nose while talking to the camera was an often-discussed moment. So, that's what's being parodied when snot seems to be pouring relentlessly down Cheri Oteri's face in that scene in the woods.

Compare "Airplane!," which definitely had a few jokes that were also "of their moment" ("Jim never has a second cup of coffee at home"), but on the whole is pretty timeless. The sequels (and spin-offs, like "Date Movie," "Epic Movie," "Superhero Movie," "Meet The Spartans") wrung out that formula a bit too much, with overall diminishing returns.
