I think the most important takeway here is that you CAN change your reputation if you put in the work. It can take years but eventually people will have to accept reality. If you’re known for being a slob for example, if you start cleaning your surroundings consistently, people might make tease you for a period of time but eventually they will be the one who look like a fool for saying you are a slob. In fact, to people who see that you are not a slob, the people saying you are a slob will look like liars. Some people make the mistake of trying to control their reputation by getting angry at what people say about them or by trying to control what people think of them by telling them what to think. For example “I always tell the truth.” “I’m a very clean person”. Nobody cares. People will always eventually judge your reputation by your actions, and the only way to form your reputation is by the consistency of your actions over time. Caring about your reputation is not about caring what other people say it’s about caring what you do and how you act.

The teenage Adam seems similar to the adult Adam as far as wording is concerned. “Penny-pinching” and “Save that Money” are synonymous, in my opinion. I think what Adam is trying to say is that he succeeded in achieving wealth by adopting an opposing and/or growth mindset as opposed to a broke and/or fixed mindset.
