the arresting officer trying to not shoot. He risked his own life. He could have shot the teen long before that. He didn’t. The other officer seem to had panicked when he saw/heard “he has a gun” and fired a shot. That itself is actually pretty reckless as his teammates were clearly in line of fire. It’s unclear whether it’s an accidental discharge.
I'm quite sure it wasn't a accident but he shooting so close to his partner was totally reckless
The outrage isn't from anyone who's actually seen the footage. He pointed what appeared to be a real gun at an officer, so the officer reacted to the threat exactly as he should have.

As a retired military cop, my heart goes out to the family who lost the 13-year-old boy! But he pointed what appeared to be a real gun at the officer! The police officer reacted exactly the way his training was intended! He had no other choice.😢
The video did not show anyone pointing a toy gun at the cops. The cops claim a lot of things that end up being false. That doesn't mean it actually happened. I haven't seen a version of this video show anything being pointed.
The kid used his hands to cover his head from being punched. He had a third hand to point a gun at police? There was no gun, only a cell phone.

I'm in Boston, where presently they're trying to frame a girlfriend of a Boston cop who was murdered by other cops and an ATF agent. He went to a house party and ended up on the lawn dead . Her name is Karen read and the case is still going on. They confiscated all the ring and video footage in the neighborhood. I don't trust any cops until I see video footage. What I saw is a kid being held down and a cop over him. Is there any body cam footage?

@Rick9482, I am just glad I am not a kid today. We used to carry and shoot BB guns and pellet guns in our neighborhood all of the time growing up. We shot at glass bottles that we would find, or other interesting things (nothing bad). Sometimes, the neighborhood kids would dress in thick layers of clothes and shoot BB guns at each other. I know shooting BB guns at each other isn't wise, but we were just kids having fun. If we did those things today, we'd be mowed down by the police. Policing, like everything else these days, is rapidly deteriorating.

Some cops have lied a few times. It is not as prevalent as you make it out to be. They lie no more than the butcher with the corner shop on Main Street or the 1st grade teacher at the elementary school.

In this case based on the info realesed it apears the officer had legitimate reason to fear for his life and use deadly force there was no way of knowing if the gun was real or not in the situation they were in. They either had to shoot him or wait to see if he shot them.

First of all, the gun was held mostly sideway all the time and not pointing directly at policies, also they already had him on the ground before shooting. The police opened fire out of panic. I am not saying this is the police fault, the boy actions were wrong and questionable in the first place, having a fake gun at night, running away instead of corporating and pulling out a gun. But the police could've handle this situation more professionally to avoid this kind of tragedy.
My question is why was this 13 year out my a bb gun. Mot at home. Where was his parents. They are blaming police officers for their child death. Why was he out. Why did he run when they asked him to stop. Stop blaming the police for your lack of being a parent.

Weird how the police can apprehend “certain” armed people all day long but as soon as the perpetrator has any type of hue to him, they can’t ever figure out how to subdue without pulling the trigger. I hate to say it but his parents are just as responsible for him pointing that pellet gun and getting himself killed as they would be if he were skipping school.
His parents and all parents that are raising out of touch and out of control children need to start facing charges far more often.
His parents are responsible in some way for his actions and although they are dealing with a terrible loss, the worst kind possible, there should be charges.
Otherwise this problem with young people will only get worse.

The only ‘SHOCKING’ thing about this report is how the ‘reporter’ framed it. Just because it was a replica gun is no reason not to side with the officers. This is a parent problem….they failed in their responsibility to teach their 13 yr old son NOT to run away, not to commit crimes, not to point anything resembling a gun at police.

I live a few blocks over from where it occurred. Officer Long deserves to be prosecuted and jailed. They released the link to the body cam footage through the Utica PD Facebook. The angle from his cam shows no remorse, runs up and point blanks him. Another officer said “why did you shoot?”

The video did not show anyone pointing a toy gun at the cops. The cops claim a lot of things that end up being false. That doesn't mean it actually happened. I haven't seen a version of this video show anything being pointed.

Kid’s still experiencing American life, Still learning to become a young man, kids make mistake and learn from the mistake as they grow but the human doesn’t give him no chance But I believe GOD Did! Child, teen, or adult... it's not tragic to point a weapon at an officer and get shot AFTER already breaking the law twice. The kid got caught breaking the law, chose to run when the police were being polite, and then pulls a gun.
The kid broke the law in 3 different ways within a 1 minute video. Sick of these minorities choosing the tiniest hills to try to stand on and then wondering why they have to tell us their lives matter.

Ok, they were chasing the kid for a reason and the kid is running for a reason (I’ll come back to this point in a second). They knock the kid to the ground and go to arrest him, that’s when you see the kid turn and point something, (call back time) what looks like a real gun; so let’s think ok, kids. Running from cops with what looks like a gun, he’s probably running from cops with that because he threatened someone with it like it was a real gun and then he painted it at an officer, parents should be ashamed, if they even raised him.
