I love the idle timer on the Spektrum radio. Every once in a while I’ll be distracted and shut the truck off, but forget the radio is still on. Saves my batteries.
This video is invaluable, no one else out there has any good information on this subject. RC review guys you are awesome! The best, and probably the only truly honest, youtube RC channel. Keep up the awesome work 👍
A lot of people don't know about the Firma40s ability to be programmed. This video is very informative. So far, I've been really happy with the stock ESC settings on my 10iii. That said, I've used it mostly as a trail truck so far. Since all of my rocks are covered in snow, I have not been able to do a lot of rock crawling.
Thank you so much for this video. I bought a spectrum ESC programmer and it never recognized my Gladiator ESC. So I bought a hobby wing programmer but the programming steps on the back of the cards did not match the Gladiator ESC. By following your video I was able to program my gladiator, I've got this video saved in a basic RC information list for reference. You 'Rock' sir!
Side note for the guys new to ESC programming - always refer to the ESC manual for the settings. Never trust the settings on the programming card, as these are only quick references to specific ESC's and likely don't apply to the specific ESC you're programming. For example, Francis read off setting #14 , but it is incorrect because this ESC doesn't have that option.
Great info! I just bought the HB 1080 for my SCX10 2 but I’ve a couple friends with the SCX10 3. They’ll be happy to find out we can tune their trucks. Thanks! Love the content of your channel. I’ve learned a lot from your videos. Keep up the fantastic work!
Hows things, have you had any trouble with the dig servos on either of your early broncos ? Mine failed the first time i used it, maybe epa set wrong from factory ??
WOW and i have not heard anyone mentions this , WOWie :) thanks so much for this .......... I just dragged my brother who has the Gladiator in to show him your video...... Thanks So Much!!!!
10:15 Alot of people upgrade to brushless system and find themselves doing endo's when letting of gas at high speed....because their ESC (like this brushed one) lets them set a drag brake rate/ramp. YEa its a crawler and they want that to happen immediately and yea that doesnt go over well when they at high speed. Thats why the mamba X esc with its signal wire is so great on the trx4's or any 2 gear rig. You mix the gear change switch in with a signal change that changes the drage brake rate in esc so its different in 1st gear slow (high rate ramp immediate) and 2nd gear. fast (low rate ramp delayed). I thought that was really cool of those mamba's and figured I would share. Without that signal wire...you are stuck choosing 1 drage brake rate/ramp setting or the other and sticking with it. I run a brushed trx4 and find that even i can get too fast in 2nd and it will endo....so i always keep the drag brake rate at a lower/slower/delay. The freewheeling setting then helps alot if you choose that route. I cant understand why anyone would keep it high and suffer from endo's at high speed.....they learn to let off throttle slowly, but i dont like that.
I just found that out the hard way ... I followed his advice, since "its a crawler" but damn ... if you are driving at 2+ mph and let off the gas, instant nose wheelie! To be honest, i selected "1" which is the slowest, most delayed drag brake rate, and even that is some what violent when letting off. But even with selection 1, which is the slowest rate, when crawling, it stops almost instantly anyway coz of how slow you are going. cheers for your reply ... wish i had read it before my initial tuning HaHa!
Let's dream a bit... imagine the transmitter had a mode switch, where you could change between two or three custom settings, like bashing mode and crawling mode.
im not 100% certain of this one....but any spektrum and higher $ rx tx system would let you put your brake rate on a switch. IF drag brake rate is just a % of brake rate.....then would drag brake also be affected by switch? That would kinda solve the issue also but not properly....youd have less normal brake when in "high speed" wether on switch on just throttling around more and that would annoy me if i stopped on a hill......
I dont know about anyone else ... but for option #10 "Drag Break Rate" Selection 1 - 9 ... I found that anything other then "1" is to violent when releasing the throttle. Even selection 1 breaks extremely abruptly .... anything 3 + ends up doing a massive nose wheelie when releasing the throttle. And with selection 1, when crawling, stops almost instantly anyway ... so to be honest ... my personal preference is Selection "1" for option #10. I know we are mostly crawling, but if you are traveling at any speed 3+ mph, its like jamming it into reverse and doing a nose wheelie if you select anything other then "1". Not saying its for everyone, but it was to violent stopping on anything other then 1.
Nice and perfect info. How come I have not seen You bring up the Axial scx 6 in your studio yet... Would be nice ..always like the way you explane things nice and clear..since this is working on a Spectrum rieciver I wonder if it works on the SCX 6. Keep up your channel. THE BEST.
That's a hobbywing card that works on a spectrum firma esc? I'm having trouble getting my spectrum v2 card to connect to the firma 2 in1 on my Capra 1.9 4ws RTR.
Yep. Exactly what I found out. I had to order a Dynamite program card. I emailed Spektrum about it and asked if they would update the Spectrum V2 so it could work.
I have heard that you can use the Spektrum DX5 Rugged transmitter to get even more features for this truck. I do know that you will need another servo to get the other features. Do you know if that will work? What would be the advantage to doing this? What else would be needed to do this? I think maybe another receiver and probably another ESC and motor? This could be an excellent future video if this can be done. What would the advantage be too doing this, if any. Thoughts?
Can the Capra ESC be programmed? My one kids Capra rolls down hills and the other kids Capra stays put on hills. Wondering if I can adjust the brake drag setting. Thank you for the great video!
Thanks for the great vids. Can you do a comparison between the Axial Capra and the Axial Bomber? They both look pretty similar but not sure if one is a better buy.
Hi, just getting back into rc got 2 rc,s twin hammers ant a trx4 was wonderimg whats the best way to set up the brake disc on the motor and pinion just lock them down hard or leave a small amount of drag ,, just aĺl my other rc were all nitro planes heles and cars thanks and love the channel 👍🏻
The brake disc on the motor is most likely the clutch. Just lock it down or close to it . Want to get out of a jam and not slip. If it causes damage, loosen a hair
Sorry yep i ment the slipper clutch, thanks very much its all new to me since im just getting back into it now 10 years away from rc,s its a hole new ball game
Thanks for sharing how to programme….I like the 2in1 Firma has to offered, but I wish to pair up using GT5 FlySky as transmitter /receiver in addition to Firma unit for my new 4WS. Does anyone knows will it work? And how this Firma should connect to FlySky receiver?
Love your channel! I recently purchased the SCX10 III and am trying to put the ESS sound emulator in it. There is no throttle plug to hook the y cable to with the Spektrum Firma40 combo. Any suggestions?
I bought the same programming card but the label nor and the extra labels included do not match what you have. Where did you get that label with that order? I just followed your instructions anyways and set each one as you did but I would like to have the label too
So would you prefer to have a highly programmable 2 in 1 esc that has a good rtr radio and can also be bound to a high end spectrum radio, or.. a typical un-programmable 1060 hobbywing rtr esc and separate receiver with garbage radio.? Lots of reviewer's hating on this Firma40 but now folks are realising its advantages. Cheers 👍
No I don’t prefer it but it’s good for beginners or people who are not gonna upgrade. The problem is if you want to use a brushless motor you can’t use this device. Or if you need the 4thchannel it’s a problem also if you want to use your own better ESC it doesn’t work with this system.
@@RCReviewChannel No rtr esc has the options of upgradable to brushless or a 4th channel, apart from traxxas reciever and in that case all channels are already in use. I get that the 2 in 1 has its downfall but the advantages that firma40 and new radio has over previously supplied stock rtr electronics makes it for a pretty good option for most. Anyone looking to upgrade this from the get go to brushless would have bought this with eyes open and know what they are in for. I'm not sure an upgrade to a 1080 is really necessary as for the smaller cost of an external Bec you have all tha same options, granted on paper the amp rating is lower but can't see most people being hindered by this. Pop in a good 5 slot holmes motor and it would be a solid system when your ready to upgrade... 👍
Silly question, but your program card shows setting 9 as drag break. The link for the Hobbywing Program Card sold at Amain shows the drag break on setting 11. Will this be an issue? Thank you.
Is it smart to put ESC and reciever in one part? When ESC burn reciever is also toast. When reciever fail ESC also doesent work. I now this "smart combination" only in super cheap china crawlers because its "cheaper".Same as Fusion two in one ,maybe next 4 or 5 (steering servo) in one and we are back at toy grade RCs.
at max on brake settings i still roll backwards or frontwards on a incline how can i stop that? better motor.btw i am running the new capra 4ws with this esc/rec combo. thanks
Thanks so much for this video. I recently had somebody donate some things to my small channel EZBOY.RC And this ESC and transmitter both I really like the radio. So it's really good to know I can program it I have plenty of program guards off of the hobby wing. Thanks again buddy great video
Best Crawler/Scaler Channel on UA-cam! Thank you Sir

Should be configurable. It does seem to short as it beep beeps while working on the car.

Yes, everything applies to the 1080. On the Hobbywing 1080, turn the BEC voltage to 7.4 if your servo can handle it. Instant turbo!

Do you know where to get that table? Mine has 3-4 tables on it and yours has what the 10.3 needs for the chart. Thanks

I am new to the Axial Gladiator... but are the ESC stock?
Can you use the smart programer with that esc/receiver unit
