Its trance inducing music
Quick note: "he" in the lyrics is the key, which is a masculine noun in German: der Schlüssel.
Also, it's not a castle but a lock (both are 'das Schloss' in German)
So yeah, it was very much machine translated.
There are quite a few of these bands around, the best experience is to lay down in bed and close your eyes while the mind is wandering :).
Not everyone's cup of tea, that's for sure. But to me it silences most of my thoughts and things around me so I can zone out.

Pd’H is one of those projects that on first listen based on the production you assume it sounds thin and small. But then the soundscape envelops you. This is MASSIVE. Another album with this effect is Rain Upon the Impure by The Ruins of Beverast which you covered (such a funny watch).
I’m sure it’s been said ad nauseam but this project is essentially being caught in a blizzard and it’s very meditative trance inducing stuff. Deeply introspective music to be felt NOT to be listened to in this context and analyzed intensely.
As far as the production choices/note clarity and the songwriting/intent I have this to say to all listeners whether you are into metal or not. You are either:
1. Listening to it incorrectly
2. Not ready for it
3. You will NEVER understand it
Which is all okay and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Imaging a dude in corpsepaint blaring this on a beanbag is a great image
Good thing I'm not a musician. I'm not interested in the technical stuff, even though I like listening to strenuous stuff. I don't know of anything that captures winter with its cold and monotony better than this Swiss project. It's about letting go and forgetting time and not about variety and excitement. Emotions and astmosphere is everything for me, every other thing comes after this two points.
I've been really enjoying your song reactions since discovering your channel! I think this shows the limitations this kind of intellectual analysis of music.
It's not so much a limitation of the analysis so much as a limitation of my engagement. I simply don't have the capacity to understand music like this yet, at least at the emotional level that something like this requires. It's a fault that has been showing up recently in my reactions to some of the third wave black metal tracks. It's possible that someone with musical knowledge AND who enjoys black metal could articulate many things better than I but as it stands I have a difficult time both engaging with this analytically as well as casually.
Fun fact: my version of Schlüssel is about 4:45 longer, though the first 18 minutes are the same; there are just 4m45s more wind noises.
Fun fact 2: I like this! I always brushed over this album, but listening to it now, I was really into it. I was also thinking about why, and I can't explain it. I concur that I find it very emotional.

I like black metal quite a bit and have listened to it for years, but this more lo-fi ambient style is not really for me in general. Granted I haven't listened to a lot of black metal the last couple of years, which without a doubt makes it more difficult than it used to be as most music I listen to nowadays have a completely different production. But I remember getting some of the Darkspace albums years ago and having a tough time getting into those as well (I did enjoy them some days and some days it didn't click). Don't get me wrong, I understand the appeal, but I probably need a little more fidelity to completely click with it myself. I remember enjoying Forest Silence for example, which also is more ambient black metal with a bit higher fidelity production.
I think you really need to be in the right headspace for something like this. Different strokes and all, but I've noticed your dislike of the more ambient or atmospheric side of black metal come through almost always, and I wonder how much of that is down to personal taste and how much of it is due to how you're listening to it. The nature of this channel means that you've got your setup and you're actively listening and noting things to comment on, which I feel is sort of antithetical to music of this style. This is music for lonely, depressed late nights staring out a window, or wandering through forests in the snow under the stars. Getting lost in the sort of ritualistic repetition is the point; I mean traditional music styles would have very simplistic ideas repeated for ages and people just get lost in it.
Maybe check out some Urfaust? Very repetitive, hypnotic stuff, but maybe the more overtly ritualistic vocals will help set the stage.
This is what I say to people when it comes to these niche forms of music, whether they’re into metal etc or not at all:
You are either:
1. Listening to it wrong
2. Not ready for it
3. Will NEVER understand it

No worries. It honestly wasn't that bad of a listen, I just didn't feel I had a lot of comments about the song itself given how long it was.
You should really give a try to the song j'avais rêver du nord full song (about 20min) from the French band peste noire

As Brian usually also does a lyrical dive it would be fair to mention that their topics include nationalism, racism and antisemitism. But I don't know if that's the case for this specific song or if Brian even cares about it. Just a "good to know" I guess.

imo it's definitely one of the albums of 2013 and one of the songs of the year
