WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?
This is a random dot autostereogram... music video.
HUH? A WHAT?
A stereogram is an image which, when viewed with two eyes, using one of several different techniques, produces the illusion of depth perception. They're cool. You can read all about them on Wikipedia. Some of you will already be familiar with the autostereogram, which was popularized by the Magic Eye® book series in the 1990s. These are made on computers, and use subtle changes in a repeating pattern to combine depth information for both eyes into one single image. By tricking your eyes into viewing these images a certain way (see below) one can see a three dimensional scene. This video is made up of a sequence of something called a "random dot autostereograms". These are also made on computers, but use subtle differences in a randomly generated field of noise to create the illusion. And a music video... is a music video.
HOW DO I SEE IT?
To view autostereograms, one must simply "decouple" or defocus their eyes, tricking the brain into seeing the slight variations in the repeating pattern as depth information. All autostereograms are made to be viewed in one of two ways, using either the "crossed-eye" method or "parallel-eye" method. Some can be viewed both ways and still look cool, but not really this one. To be nice, we made this video viewable both ways because some people are better at one method than the other. Though there are several ways to learn how to see them, there's a decent step-by-step for how to view parallel eye stereograms here (www.wikihow.com.... Crossed-eye stereograms are basically the same principal, but done by crossing your eyes, rather than "relaxing" your eyes or "looking through" the image. It can take a while to learn how to see them, but try practicing with some stills and take your time. It's worth it.
BUT WAIT, THIS IS A VIDEO. HOW DID YOU MAKE IT?
This is where it gets technical. To make your own autostereogram, one must first create a thing called a "depth map" which is a 2D representation of 3D depth information. We collected real-time depth data of Young Rival performing the song using an X-Box Kinect hooked up to a computer. The computer was running software called RGBD toolkit, designed for capturing the depth information from the Kinect using its built-in infrared system. Once we had our depth information, we unpacked it into image sequences and edited these sequences as if they were regular video. The only difference in the editing process was that depth was represented by luminosity. For fun, you can view the black and white depth-map version HERE. With much trial and error, we then ran the data through an algorithm which took each frame of depth information, converted it into a random dot stereogram image, and repacked it into the final video. Lastly, there was one more colour pass at the end, and voila.

I'm watching this on a 27" screen at 1080p and OMG I CAN SEE THEM SO CLEARLY THIS IS JUST AWESOME!
Same
i cant
@@gibusmibus9468 did you do the cross eye tehnique trough the whole vid?
First off they started off as holes in the screen, NOW THEY FEEL LIKE THEY'RE OUT OF THE SCREEN.
It looks like it's in 3D too like if you could touch it, it's soo cool!!!
+CryptPixel That's because it is 3D! This stuff is so cool!

Wow, I just love this. I'm so fascinated by the fact that I suddenly could see people singing and playing the music. And to make this perfect the music also sounds great ;)
This is absolutely amazing. I remember running into this when i was younger and not being able to see anything. Not I can see everything. The guys playing the guitar, to the end screen. Amazing!
I watched for the first time stereograms and I'm happy I did through this amazing musical video! I love it! truly! it gives me chills, It's been discovering a new dimention I didn't know my eyes were able to see!
Holy crap this was amazing, shame to hear it didn't work for everyone :(
I can see it on both videos but wow here i can actually see what the figures are XD
Same, on the other it looks like it's an indent, but on this one it feels like it pops out, not in.
On this one it's like you are looking closer than where the screen is and on the other you have to look further. This is the difference.
I agree, with this one I can move my head, blink, and view the video in full screen without losing it. I was able to read the words also. this version is awesome
It's because in the other one you're supposed to defocus and "look past" the screen. In this version you're supposed to cross your eyes, which a lot of people find easier to do.
Not only the 3d effect is well-made and impressive, the song is actually very good!
This one was more difficult for me, but once I got it I discovered a new type of autostereogram! The traditional one, which was in the original video, works by relaxing your eyes and focusing behind the screen, while this one works by focusing in front of the screen. I couldn't get this version to work until I put my finger in front of the screen and focused on it, moving it in and out until the image came into focus. Once it happened, the effect was kind of neat though, because with the cross-eyed stereogram the whole screen pops out and you can see the original screen behind it, while in the normal version it's only the 3D objects that pop out. I think I like the normal version better, but this was a neat experience.
Frikkin' love Magic Eye pictures, great idea for a music video. It's a bit tricky to see it at first but once you get it, it's awesome!
I think this one is cooler than the other one because it feels like the images pop out of the screen while the other version they sink into it. It's like watching in 3d without 3d glasses!
This one was easier for me to do, I didn't have to cross my eyes as far.
That was a lot of fun. You get to see figures that dance better than I ever can, and then there's parts where you can see this cool ripple affect and something I can only describe as "moving depth". And when you unfocus, really all you can see is just static.
Just amazing~~
Took a few secs but once relaxed I couldn't stop seeing the video. Interesting.
This is my favorite stereogram ive seen. Theres so many things going on, its easy to tell whats going on, it has nice color changes, and it has a good song that goes with it!
My screen looks so much bigger and smoother now. Thanks!
Congrats!! Bev & Bob loves this song and we're happy that John has asked us to cover it and we've been practicing and we will have it done as soon as we get over our sinus head cold and so so excided do see what we come up with:)
Thanks John Smith for asking us to do your band's original song "Black Is Good" we hope you like our version and please let us know how it sounds to you and the band Young Rival. And for your 2nd request original song Two Reason is in the works.

I spent like 40 minutes trying to see the other one.
Lyrics
Somebody please slip me a hand
Seems that I'm too drunk to stand
Go out every night, try to feel alright
Try to find someone who understands
Don't want to care to bring me home
Don't want to ring your telephone
TV's getting old, I'm not getting younger
Don't know what I'm doing anymore
You've always been my love girl
Please don't go
Forever this will be behind
Knocking on your door
Don't want to listen to the radio
I just want to know which way to go
Don't know what to do, still in love with you
Smoke a cigarette and watch the news
And if I have one thousand minds
Work and study all the time
All the paperwork, fuck me I'm a jerk
I don't know what I'm doing anymore
You've always been my love girl
Please don't go
Forever this will be behind
Knocking on your door
You've always been my love girl
Please don't go
Forever this will be behind
Knocking on your door
Yes it's true, I'd rather be here beside with you
Ohhhh
Black is good
Black is good
Black is good
Black is good
Go ahead and put me in the dark now
Didnt know a disorted screen could be so entertaining!
why is this great song so underrated..
Crossing your eyes puts the focal point between your eyes and the screen making the image appear as if its pushed through the screen. Ideally, you want to focus on your reflection in the screen while it is black, or focus on a distant object this will make you screen look like a window into a much larger room and the people will become 3D objects in that room.
Black Is Good
Just like the stereograms the Toronto sun use to print back in the day. :)
I figured it out at last ! Just watch this in HD and then Cross Eye.
Since these things came out I've always had trouble seeing the image as it's supposed to be - but this version... Oh wow! First time ever for not having the background appear in front with a cutout image behind. Thanks :)
This one is so much better I can see everything in 3d and way more clear and better
neither versions worked for me ever
2:21. Isn't that the Utah teapot? That's amazing.
I can't stop watching
This is the sickest concept I've ever seen with two eyes!
I didn't see it at first. Then I waited a moment and you guys blew my mind. Now let me go find the pieces and reassemble it.
I can see it better on this version....
The original version was popping out, this one looks like they dug a hole and did it.... WOAH
Still can't do it. :(
Try to look to your nose. That shall work
I feel like I was looking straight into another world.
I think I'm addicted to Autostereograms now. Sickest illusion I've seen in a long time. Though the fear of going blind went thru my mind about 3/4 of the way through the video haha (Seemed to work better in 1080p)
just be me and already have bad eyes Cx
relaxing your eyes with this one is trippy
im having trouble on regular relax version, cuz the 3d is mirrored, in this version i still can make the middle dots perfect seeing with no blur, and after that..DAMN YOUNG..REVOLVER...BLACK IS GOOD AND ALL THE 3Ds POPS OUT,!!
I love this song and video..and the band. Young Rival I have been following you guys ever since I first saw this video; I lived in Hamilton at the time, and came across this without knowing you are from Hamilton. Made me proud in a way and I instantly liked you. Then I rediscovered Authentic (not sure where I heard it from originally) and I was hooked! Now with your new album, its easy to hear that you have really been evolving and perfecting your sound. Looking forward to everything you do!
quite the trip this was
wow, so I've been always been able to see magic eye pictures but just assumed stuff was supposed to be recessed. Never realised I was crossing my eyes til now. Stuff is so much clearer too.
I could see dancing... awesome!!!
can vaguely see silhouettes of guitarist...pretty difficult to defocus for that long.
It should be protuberant, not sunken, shouldn't it? Heh, I just can't learn cross eye, I always end up doing parallel :/
Anula993 Crossing eyes is just like looking at you finger while you slowly move it to the nose. It's exactly doing that, but without your finger
Anula993 it's the opposite for me
HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!
How this is possible is that multiple patterns are being shown and each design is similar but tilted a little bit differently to give the 3D effect, and when you cross your eyes, you are connecting all the designs and what you are seeing is the result
i've never gotten these kinds of things to work before. This video is really cool. Congrate to the artists who made it.
Takes me back to my high school days haha
2:22 is that the generic 3DS Max teapot? I think it is.
freakin' awesome guys! I can see everything... and it is beautiful.
i discovered these things from tyhe bad apple one, which is only in 2d, so when i watched the parallel one i throught it was just not done as well as the bad apple one, but this one is even more clear than the bad apple one, and is really 3d
i could see both ones. even tho i for some reason cant do still pic only moving ones
Woo juste made it but this version is sooo much better than the parrallel one, you see the things so clearly in this one :o
thats crazy didnt expect it to work
HOLY SHIT THAT IS AWSOME
Now i can see more clearly. WOW THIS IS AN AWESOME IDEA.
all i have to say is amzing
two dots become 3 dots, its blur but adjust your distance and u will see the middle dot will become clear and u clearly see dancing people and stuff pop up.
singer, telephone, gutairs/bass,drumer,keyboard, television, some buble, fighting, plane, "THE END"
I don't know why but these things freaks me out. I know there's nothing to afraid of but i just can't... It's so scary seeing those.. pop up lol
whoever posted this video did it backwords. Instead of a positive image its a negative. The official video is done correctly.
I kept trying this for like a minute and it wouldn’t work properly until I read the title and saw that it was CROSS EYED version 😂
Couldn't see the other one. Saw this one on first try. Interesting.
This finally helped me be able to see cross views, neat! Only had been able to see parallel views before
THIS IS SO COOL.
Esse clipe é simplesmente fantástico
It's a Schooner!
I was about to give up on this shit!! But finally made it work after about 5min. It's pretty damn cool.
Is there a difference with the other video they uploaded first?
You probably don’t care after 5 months but if anyone else sees this it might help them. The technique used in this video to imitate depth has two ways to view it, the first method is by focusing on a point in space beyond the screen, the second way is to cross your eyes and focus on a point in space in front of the screen. Which method is correct depends on how they made it, this video uses the cross eyed method while the other video uses the other method. If you use the wrong method for each version you won’t see the images correctly, instead you’ll see an imprint of the image, basically like all of the depth has been inverted.
YOOO I FINALLY GOT IT!! THIS IS AMAZING!!!!
Why can't I see this version, but the original version I can? I've had so much difficulty with optical illusions that ask me to cross my eyes. Could it be that I don't know how to cross my eyes?
That's a masterpiece!!! I can see all video, amazing!!
OMG OMG !! i made it !! at first i don believe it ~ and i try and try again~ now i can watch the whole video ~ WOW! amazing ~ sorry for my english ~
I can see something but notsure what a lot of it is? I see outlines of people playing drums and bumps all across the screen but nothing specific.
Amazing. Again.
Epic!
I can do the method that you're supposed to do for the other one and see this one better. I saw the depth map version of it and it really helps to understand what you're seeing. Surely though, this can't be good for your eyes...
All you're doing is crossing your eyes, its the same as focusing on a finger in front of your face, and in fact if anyone cant see it thats what they should do, focus on your finger and move it between your eyes and the screen slowly until you catch the image
Ahh, this is awesome! Was always really good at the Magic Eye pictures, so I was able to stay focused for the entire video. Definitely a cool concept, and a great song!
I guess I must be better at the parallel eye method, 'cause doing this version made them indentations in the screen, rather than raised points
I get the third dot, but no effects happen. Tried on both versions and still nothing
That was so cool! I tried at first with my glasses on, and it didn't work. So maybe for those who wear glasses, you have to take them off and you'll see it :D
SO CLOSE TOO SEEING IT
This is so cool
I love this
This really feels like 3D :D
So for some reason when ive rewatched this recently and i am seeing double of everything side by side. im fairly sure it wasnt like that the first time but does anyone know why?
I can't really find anything, I just see static. I kinda saw some movement in the middle with a different color, but couldn't identify it.
innovative ^^
So cool. It's like 3D when you see it.
THATS SO COOL
I can't see shit
Blur your vision
Now I just feel stupid
Morph94 keep trying dude its worth it.
BlindOedipus cross your eyes a little till the dots become 3
I didn't see anything...
What is that at 2:30?
It looks like a sad fox.
I think it's a t-Rex Lol
Wtf is this black magic
It might be the guy
Alex Rakanui Dinosaur I think
i think it is a cat
How about those of us who are blind on one eye? :( is there a version for us to see?
I watched a few seconds then I tried to snap out of it, I couldn’t xD, I just looked away from the screen
WOW OMG THIS IS AWESOME
this one has a lot more definition than the other one
the other one seems inverted for some reason
@@SokarenT4S that’s because it is inverted, this video uses the cross eyed method where you focus on a point in space in front of the screen, the other video uses the method where you focus on a point in space beyond the screen. If you use the wrong method all of the depth is essentially inverted.
Es cojonudo!! se ve perfectamente todo el video!!!
Es muy simple, van saliendo, girando tocando instrumentos, luego salen como ondas, y unas piramides y luego haciendo el tonto entre ellos.
Esta muy chulo si señor!
I can't figure it out
This is by far the most awesome video I have ever seen!!!! :D :D
