Exactly. I don’t know the reason for the long wait to indict. There is full video evidence of the whole darn Uvalde police response with audio. I may not know much about the law. And I wouldn’t doubt that it’s much harder to indict a LEO than it is a civilian. But c’mon! Two years!

Pete Arredondo is not the only coward that should face charges. What is the point of responding at all if the cops we expect to protect our kids are just standing around in the hall the whole time until its too late? I mean, if thats all the cops are going to do, then they should have let the parents in the building to rescue their kids. Where was SWAT? Where were the non-lethals such as flash bangs? They didn't even think to use police dogs to distract the shooter? Arredondo is not the only one at fault. The fact that he's only looking at 2 years is a travesty of justice.

Irony is the Sergeant of the City SWAT unit was part of the first group into the building. I don't blame LEO for retreating when fired on. What is disturbing was the cluster [bleep] follow on response. He should have immediately regrouped and gotten the appropriate resources, instead deferred to Arrendono who remained on the opposite side of the building.
As pointed out in reports they failed to use distracting techniques such as blowing an outside window and tossing in flashbangs. It was not a lack of equipment. It was a lack of commitment.

Imagine not having an AR-15 proof shield an entering a dark room, trough a door and then slipping on the blood of other police officers and still not able to know where the shooter is. Then firing like crazy and bullets ricocheting and killing some of the injured kids, and having commander hindsight saying that you should had waited until you had an AR-15 shield to go in.

While I agree police officers are humans too. Calling them cowards is stretch. The issue was terrible planning not so much fear. They knew the gunman was in the classroom they should have circled the room with other officers outside but that clearly didn't happen. In an interview the chief said the objective shifted to save who they could.

That’s not fair at all. Most cops in most situations will put themselves in danger to protect people. I’m 100% positive that most of the cops in this situation would have acted differently if they would have just had some leadership. Especially when the initial officers arrived. Those were the cops I hold most responsible because they quit on the situation in the hallway instead of heading toward the shooter.

The nation said it won't happen here, then Columbine hit and the nation began to reevaluate. Texas did not begin to address school shootings until the 2017 Santa Fe High incident, which galvanized parents to call for a response program, nearly 30 years after Stockton. In my school district response training is very realistic. A newly built high school was used for a mass casualty training exercise before the beginning of the school year. Unfortunately, it was not announced, so area residents thought it was the real deal and flooded 911. Police matra: Stop the shooting, Stop the dying, evacuate the injured. Uvalde: naw, we will wait.

What a waste of money because it is illegal under US Constitutional law because of court cases like Deshaney v Winnebago County that people who are governmental agents cannot be held accountable for their actions when they are not creating the danger. Lots of cases having to due with children and the police not helping them have found that under the law police don't have to help people that are in danger because of the US Constitution. The police have to create the danger. If another person caused the danger then the police are off the hook. This case is a violation of federal criminal law. That is the sad part. Our legal system only allows for termination of the police. Deshaney was a US Supreme Court case that set the standard. It was a very sad case involving a helpless child.

The supreme court has already ruled numerous times that police have no duty to protect anyone.
The police can stand around, shrug their shoulders while watching everyone get shot and, historically, they can't be touched, at least legally.
_The Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment does not impose a duty on the state to protect individuals from private harm._ -- The Supreme Court.
