  • Most of us know about the classic Thermacell Mosquito Repeller. This time we have tried similar mosquito killer machines from Nitecore that runs on electricity instead of gas.
We have tried two and one of them is the Nitecore EMR 10 which has inbuilt batteries that are rechargeable and this mosquito machine can also be used as a powerbank.
The second one we have tried is Nitecore’s latest mosquito repellent which is called Nitecore EMR 30SE that doesn’t have any built-in battery but needs to be connected with electricity to work for example a powerbank. The EMR30SE has the advantage of being very lightweight and compatible with all different kinds of power banks and you don’t need a battery in each and every electric equipment you’re using.
In this video, we compare the Nitecore EMR10 and Nitecore EMR30SE with Thermacell 450 and 300 and tell which is the best mosquito killer in which situation, for example, when outdoor camping, when car camping or camping in a van, going for a hike short or on a longer trek.

Just a word of warning, i dropped my Emr10 while putting a new repellent pad in it, it wasnt from a great height & landed on wooden flooring, it broke a junk out of the plastic, i managed to epoxy resin the piece back on a & filled the the gap in it & strengthen it, if it had had the heat guard on at the time it probably wouldn't of happened, its still working fine, but i will be a bit more careful in future......

Another helpful video about a topic that everyone will acknowledge must be part of your key competences living where you do (extreme cold being another one; dogs, too, but I am not that much of a dog person).
I am still such a backward person that I use mosquito coils with pyrethrum when traveling in mosquito infested areas, admittingly though, it's some time I have been in Lapland, and in Africa it might be harder to find supplies for these modern devices?
But I still recall the painful experience of just peeing in the woods in Scandinavia in summer (even as a male)...
My next (already once postponed) trip to Lapland will be in winter! Okay, that toilet issue might prove to be quite painful then, too...

Why don't you make videos where we see your tests, for example in the evening? There you can have a lamp on which attracts mosquitoes and when the mosquitoes come, turn on the mosquito repellant you are testing so we can see them working

The Flextail LIGHT REPEL looks like pretty much the same thing as the EMR30SE, similar range (same 2 modes, they claim up to 30ft) but 50g lighter because doesn't have a fan. Guess it depends how useful that fan is - very for outdoor #2's I imagine :)

Personally, I don't have many problems with mosquitoes, they do sting but about one hour later I can't even find the place they did sting me however I find them very irritating. Svidknott is a different story, they bite me and a week later it's still itchy (A LOT) and it gets really red and swollen. my daughter came to visit me and she has problems with mosquitoes so I bought a Thermacell it works pretty good but not as far as the claim is.

I am trying to evaluate different brand of the machine. Initially, I realized the major stores only promote Thermacell in Sweden and that led me to assume there is only 1 brand. Now with your explanation, I knew I need to search harder to find other brands. Quite understandable because for sellers, they care more about the re-occurring business, not only the pad but the fuel cell.
You have a very fair comment that if you are traveling in the wilderness for longer period of time, fuel cell is needed. For my usecases, few hours forest walk, I prefer electrical based heating. I just don't like the idea to be forced to buy fuel cell cartage, even if Babyliss version is slightly cheaper than the Thermacell version.

Is this a sales video or a test?
If you had measured this in the thermal image, you would have seen that the Nitecore EMR30 SE and EMR10 only delivers 50% of its output and only reaches approx. 70 degrees at night with loaded plates. This is not enough to vaporize the active ingredient properly. The manufacturer claims 165 degrees in its advertising. You can't even achieve that without plates at an outside temperature of 45 degrees.
