Not if they're smart.
I do believe Sony would consider another Portable/Handheld gaming console, but it would probably be after their venture in the PS VR space has been finalized. I don't think they have the resource to invest in hardware development and game development for 3 separate devices.
@@Anneso1996 Agreed, they should definitely be able to play the previous gen console games. The reason why Steam Deck is so popular is due to it can be used to play older, current and future games.
Such a shame it failed so hard, it really wouldn't have but Sony literally gave up on it before it even released. I still use mine at least once a week. I do really hope Sony hasn't given up on handhelds forever. All these retro handhelds like the Retroid Pocket are super popular because there is just no first party option for a pocketable handheld anymore, it's very unfortunate. My vita and 3ds xl are still my go to handhelds when I want to just shove something in my pocket and go.
Both the vita and 3ds are such great portable handhelds. Everything feels a little too big now days.
it didn't fail Sony failed it
Well......Sony back in the handheld business but it's complicated with a catch.......strictly streaming handheld only with a mandatory tethered ps5.......oooof 😢 Thank the heavens for other companies stepping up for gaming on the go!
@knowledgeseeker4116 yeah that definitely does not count lol, easily the dumbest idea any of the big 3 have ever had.
The Vita almost had Switch-like functionality! There's a port on the top of the first model which was presumed to be a TV out, but Sony decided that it made a lot more sense to sell another Vita-compatible system with an HDMI port but no screen. I think we all remember how the PSTV worked out for them.
I so much agree! I think the Vita was the true inspiration that created the switch.
Well got a way around it using USB camera and connect a speaker, so anything is possible as Sony has no control over it and is in a better care from a wonderful community that actually made it so much better in every way where Sony failed horribly it's sad that such an amazing hardware was under such heartless money hoarders, they even stopped caring for the community
The Sega Nomad was a handheld that doubled as a home console way back in 1995. It even played full Genesis games.
@@Splackavellie85 that's pretty cool. Didn't know that!
@@ShaunTirubeniTech Yeah, it’s the one handheld that I’ve always wanted yet never owned. Since it was only released in the US, it wasn’t until last weekend that I finally saw one in real life in a retro gameshop.
It’s about the size of the Game Gear, yet a fully functional Sega Genesis.
Even though I recently purchased a Steam Deck I still play my original PSP and PS Vita on a regular basis.
Modding the PS Vita allows you to take full advantage of the Vita and unlocks so many ways to play it for modern use! The Vita is my go to portable console as I can play Ps Vita, PSP, and PS1 games natively. Also, with modding there is a ton of homebrew games, emulators, and ports that add new titles to the library such as Dead Space(mobile), Grand theft auto 3, Vice City and San Andreas, Mass Effect Infiltrator, Max Payne and much more!
I originally never wanted a vita until my psp 3000 was stolen. recently decided I should get one but only for remote play purposes. My nearest pawn shop had the og oled for the equivalent of 65-70 dollars in pretty good condition with no memory card so I took it. Got the memory card and just modded it last week Friday and man was it worth it. Still yet to try the remote play lol but I’m just trophy hunting with it now
I really don't understand how this failed. It was extremely popular with service members while I was on active duty since we could take it with us everywhere. So was the DS. I thought everyone loved handhelds.
The vita was ahead of it's time yes but I agree on the device releasing at the wrong time, smart phones and the tablet scene back when the vita was out definitely took allot of eyes off the vita.
I honest feel if Sony delayed the ps vita till 2015 it would of had abetter chance because the hype around smart phones and tablets were no longer at a high.
If they released the vita with a oled screen, support for micro SD cards, without those cameras, keep the back and front touch pads, most importantly better marketing and a clear path who the machine is for. it would of one much better.
just look at the Switch it got released bare bones but Nintendo is smart because they had clear goal to market it as gaming device first. you don't need a back touch pad or cameras like the vita did. I just feel like Sony made the handheld more expensive than it should of been.
You'd be pissed at Sony for not including internal storage, an SD card slot, video out... The dev kit feels like what the vita should've been at launch.
The dev kit version I assume is much more costly than the standard retail model. Those features would’ve been cool, but I don’t think that would’ve changed the Vita’s fate. Hardly anybody wanted to support the Vita. Unfortunately, people were drawn to the DS more which is insane.
I just got two of them and love it but I wish they gave it the love it needed it was stupid but honestly it's easier to mod the system that I'm thinking about doing a service for people
At least there are still fans who care about the Vita, even if Sony doesn't any more.
SONY seriously needs to take another shot at a handheld device. I think the time has never been better. At least I really hope SONY makes another PS Vita
I think the lack of the vita exclusives like a God of war yeah, we got one and 1 and 2 but it would’ve been nice to get its own exclusives like back on the PSP or a call of duty that had zombies or a GTA. I feel like there was a lot of missed opportunities. Also, the memory cards were super over priced and still are till this day, so that definitely didn’t help.
JUST RECENTLY GOT MY BLUE VITA STRAIGHT FROM JAPAN! LOVING IT 😊
I still play my modded oled vita sometimes, and sometimes the gpu crashes 😅 ...
this is why the vita is still relevant!
its huge and loyal fanbase and for impressive showcasing it runs ps4 very solid
its versatile to say the least and its portability is there alongside the 3ds
💯 the community and fanbase is like no other
Anyone manage to get bully to work on it?
Can u still buy games on ps vita store?
yes but you need to load funds to your ps account first via website or ps4/5
what name your them or wallpaper .
It's called "Modern PS Vita": psv.altervista.org/theme.php?id=1657199564
send link for that wallpaper 0:43
It's actually a custom theme: psv.altervista.org/theme.php?id=1657199564
ps vita has its own thing going for it thus the reason it keeps on popping up every year regardless of its age. up to now, it is hard to emulate vita games due to the hardware's unique controls, just like the ds' dual screen which is still best played with the main hardware. but with the new retroid pocket 3+ and other more powerful handhelds coming in, it is possible that it will replace my vita for playing psp games. these are good times for handheld gaming enthusiasts. all thanks to the chinese knock offs that people brushed off years ago and suddenly evolved into something that could no longer be ignored.
Agree, even with something like the steam deck, handheld gaming is definitely taking off. I think the RP3 and RP3+ are probably the best bang for buck emulation devices.
Love my Vita. I play it more than the Switch
I remember getting mine on the day it came out, obviously what made it fail is the memory card prices and they only had a couple of exclusive titles. They should've partnered with SanDisk for affordable memory cards and made more exclusive games. This device has the power to have console like games, PlayStation was lazy... Lazy cause they could've added the trigger buttons, make more games like the uncharted instead of just giving us indie games. Sony didn't believe in it's product.
I really don’t think there’s a reason to own a Vita anymore
Playing PS1 and Homebrew games on it was amazing but now that the Steamdeck does that and more. There’s no reason not to own it
I see it the other way around. I’m sure the steamdeck is cool, but I prefer a dedicated handheld with physical games. There are plenty of reasons to own a Vita.
If are u into hardcore jrpgs than ps Vita is more than worth buying in 2022 ..
I’m not into jrpgs and there are still tons of amazing games that I have/like on Vita
I will always say that the smaller button layout compared to the original PSP was the main drawback. I am not sure why all these handheld devices go this route, but it is exceedingly dumb. I will concede that mobile devices played a role.
I still play on the PS Vita in 2023. There's plenty of games that I still want to play with.
Great content but pls do get a better mic. Audio is pretty bad..
Thank you, really glad you enjoyed the content! Sorry about the audio, this was when I wasn’t doing a great job with audio post processing. Newer videos have much better audio 😅
wow they even considerate shutting down the ps store?!?!
yep! crazy stuff
The Playstation Portal is now Sony's answer to gaming on the go..................Well Vita for life! Is still my Sony 's handheld preference in 2023 and beyond ❤ 😊
Yeah I really was hoping that we would get a Vita successor and not a remote play device.
Vita still rocks! I’m enjoying it more now!
Sony should make a hybrid system. I think it's the future. But with our phones able to stream. Tht seems to be sonys solution
The vita was sooooooo sick

Best way to go with a modded PS-Vita Slim or Fat... 256gb or 512gb sd-Card and Sd2vita adapter... I got a Sammy 512gb Evo SD card and that thing already has more then 80 games...mixed...PSX...PSP...VITA games. SNES...DREAMCAST...N64...MOVIES...MUSIC...and couple useful apps...TubeVita for UA-cam...🫠🙃🤓
Sounds really neat. I need to get 1 now. I'm a cornball for this kinda stuff. Had the og psp way back when but sold it like an idiot
@@dmo848 Indeed...You'll fine a new one... 😎
@@dmo848 bought a new jaoanese import vita some years back, modded it and its still my fav handheld
@Visual Dosage what u play
I was able to buy a ps vita OLED with 400gb SD card loaded with retro PS1 vita Sega SNES etc for $165.
PS Vita Has AR !!
psvita is still better than the switch
Mods and hacking communities of psvita are really strong they making psvita worth 10x than sony.

Dude, fix your sound.
