Books with Chloe thank you for this, I have been looking for Asian American books beacuse I want to know more about us Americans through different stories and perspective. Also, unfortunately since corvid (and evern before) Asian people have been demonized too.... Unfortunately, it is rarely talked about..... Again thank you.
The Astonishing Color of After is sooooo good 💜
The Astonishing Color of After is such an incredible book! It’s so true, reading diversely is so important. I’m making that my goal for the rest of the year so I can share what I’m reading in my reading vlogs.
So true!
🖤🖤🖤🖤
It’s so amazing that you got to see yourself represented in books like to all the boys, everytime you say it I feel so happy for you!! I’m currently reading The Astonishing Colour of After (and Skyward). I want to read so many of these books!!! Specially Starfish, mooncakes and In order to live. My rec is The Poppy War (be aware of the tw!)
:’)🖤🖤🖤 okay i need to read the poppy war ASAP because i’ve heard AMAZING things!!!!
Your eye makeup is STUNNING😍 I also love the challenge of reading a book by an author of color for every book read by a white author! I will definitely be implementing that challenges for myself from now on! Emergency Contact was SO GOOD as well, I read it at the start of quarantine and I just fell in love with the authenticity of the characters/Mary H. K. Choi’s writing style. ❤️
thank you!!! YESSS she’s incredible 🖤

Check out all three of Sandhya Menon’s books When Dimple Met Rishi, From Twinkle With Love, and There’s Something About Sweetie. I also really enjoyed Written in the Stars by Aisha Saeed.

You are one the most amazing and kindest person i have seen on UA-cam ! ✨ i love your vids so much.
Being an asian, I'm so happy for this ✨
Great recommendations, will definitely be picking up girl of paper and fire. Thank you Chloe 💗
I ordered Starfish a few days ago based on your love for it! Very excited for it to show up
I loved Wicked Fox and Starfish! Thankyou so much for the recommendations adding a few to my TBR
I have quite a few of these on my list and it's all because of your recommendations! I also just got Strange the Dreamer, The Girl Who Drank the Moon and Truly Devious for my birthday so I'm excited to read those also!
I’m currently reading The Astonishing Color of After and I’m so excited! I highly recommend An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir, The Star Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi, Legend and Warcross by Marie Lu, and The Weight of Our Sky by Hanna Alkaf! I also really enjoyed When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon and A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi! And yesss Girls of Paper And Fire is incredible 💖I can’t wait for book three! I need to read all of these!💗
YOUR RECOMENDATIONSS ALWAYS GOES TO MY FAV LIST SO I TRUST U UNNIE
ONE OF MY FAVE COMMENTS 🥺🖤
I read Mooncakes a week ago and loved it! Also loved Laura Dead Keeps Breaking Up With Me!! Such a good recommendations! You always recommend such good books! Thank you. I am currently reading Fence per your recommendation and it is so good!
loved this video, chloe!!! so many great recs. i’ve been meaning to check out wicked fox for some time now but you know when you need someone’s praise to really push you over the edge to read it? i feel like that’s what you just did for me. same with frankly in love! i really adored the astonishing color of after and i get so sad when other booktubers don’t like it as much lol. a book i wanna recommend to you is this time will be different by misa sugiura! it has a japanese american lead and deals so much with japanese american history (esp re: internment camps in WWII) while still being a really breezy contemporary read.
I love this - I think this is great! I've read a couple of these (and seen some of hte movies) but I'll be checking out Starfish and In order to Live! I've also heard great things about Mooncakes!
I’ve been dying to read Starfish ever since I saw your vlog where you read it and I NEED to get round to it! Being someone who has struggled with anxiety for years, I’m always looking for good representation in books ❤️
So many of these books are on my TBR! I need to get to them ASAP.
I was doing this challenge without even realizing it. I followed your recommendation of Girls of Paper and Fire and I’m loving the audiobook so far ☺️
hi chloe! im recommending it to everyone, but i think you'd like Upon a Burning Throne by Ashok K Banker .. its an Indian epic fantasy inspired by the Mahabharata. i talked about it in my may wrap up and its like my current favorite thing haha
Wow I've got to check this out!
YESSS thanks for reminding me i need to read it!!
I read Wicked Fox based on your earlier recommendation as part of the Asian readathon last month and I definitely enjoyed the mythology that ran through it.
The other book I read as part of the readathon was Library of Legends about a young university student in 1937 China evacuating from the Japanese bombing, and protecting the university's treasured library, guided by a star in human form. I really loved this one, and will be checking out more by this author.
I read the Wicked Fox recently and absolutely loved it! I definitely wish I saw more people reading it! Girls of Paper and Fire is another one that I absolutely loved ! I need to pick up the sequel soon.
Your eye makeup is stunning.
I just finished Girls of Paper and Fire, it's sooo good. Amazing writing, characters, world buiding, and romance.
I really want to read Mooncakes! It's been on my Wishlist for ages but I haven't gotten around to getting it yet! I realised that I don't read enough Asian authors or POC authors and I've made it a goal for this year to change that so this video has been a huge help! Thank you xx
Amazing recommendations! I already have so many on my tbr but I just added a few more :) Have you read the Three Dark Crowns series by Kendare Blake?
i’ve read the first book but unfortunately i didn’t love it 😭
Thank you queeeen!💗💞
i loooooove this list!!! need to get some on my tbr!!!
and i’m just gonna say that you’re so pretty, chloe 🥺
Wicked Fox is on my physical TBR! I can’t wait to get to it soon!
it’s amazing!!!
Never Fall Down by Patricia McCormick is really good. Even though she isn't Asian, she was kind of like a stenographer for this person as he talks about his life during the Khmer Rouge. It is written the way he speaks. This book means a lot to me because it was the first time I ever read something about my own culture's history. My mom never shared her experience so finding out what she went through via this book almost killed me and made me see her in a new light. It was really deep for me, I had to keep taking breaks lol.
Here's the synopsis if you're interested:
This National Book Award nominee from two-time finalist Patricia McCormick is the unforgettable story of Arn Chorn-Pond, who defied the odds to survive the Cambodian genocide of 1975-1979 and the labor camps of the Khmer Rouge.
Based on the true story of Cambodian advocate Arn Chorn-Pond, and authentically told from his point of view as a young boy, this is an achingly raw and powerful historical novel about a child of war who becomes a man of peace. It includes an author's note and acknowledgments from Arn Chorn-Pond himself.
When soldiers arrive in his hometown, Arn is just a normal little boy. But after the soldiers march the entire population into the countryside, his life is changed forever.
Arn is separated from his family and assigned to a labor camp: working in the rice paddies under a blazing sun, he sees the other children dying before his eyes. One day, the soldiers ask if any of the kids can play an instrument. Arn's never played a note in his life, but he volunteers.
This decision will save his life, but it will pull him into the very center of what we know today as the Killing Fields. And just as the country is about to be liberated, Arn is handed a gun and forced to become a soldier.
thank you so much for sharing 🤍🤍 i’m definitely adding this to my TBR!
56k subscribers!!!! Congrats!
I read STARFISH after watching your emotional video about it and I LOVED it. I could totally relate to her social anxiety... I have felt all those same thoughts and emotions described in the book.
I love Darius the Great is not Okay! It is my favorite book of all time as a Persian American. His sequel comes out in August and both books are autographed (well, one is coming). Thank you so much for giving a shout out to that book!
The astonishing color of after broke my heart
Thank you so much I've taken so many amazing recommendations from this video. On an unrelated note what foundation do you use? Your makeup is amazing! ♥️👌
i also rlly love “the summer i turned pretty” series from jenny han. it’s definitely not a series with the most complexity and u sometimes get mad at the characters but it is really entertaining it’s like watching a romance tv series on netflix and there’s some family aspects that people can relate to.
The Kite Runner is a really heartbreaking but important read about growing up in the 70s Afghanistan. It deals with so many important topics and is educational so I would definitely recommend you to pick it up :)
A thousand splendid suns by the same author is one of my favourites
The Five Syndicates series and Devious Lies by Parker S. Huntington are really good. She’s Vietnamese-American and I’m loving The Perfect Escape by Suzanne Park.
I think you would really love Haruki Murakami's books! Lots of magical realism and fun storytelling. Also Pachinko by Min Jin Lee is a great historical fiction about a Korean family living in Japan in the 20th century. Also Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto is a sweet romantic novella featuring a trans character that was originally released in 1988. I really love contemporary japanese literature, its often written in quite a specific style that is interesting
This year I have read more by Asian authors than before! There are so many good ones to choose from!
I love most these books so much. They literally have my heart. We all knew Starfish was about to be here with how much you gush about it!!
🥰😘😘😘
You're so beautiful 💕
thank you!!😘
Starfish has been on my TBR since that vlog it just sounds like an amazing read!!! Added a bunch of books to my TBR :))))
And I really loved American Panda by Gloria Chao similar to Frankly in Love but she in her first year of college and is trying to figure herself out while mending her relationship with her parents. And I recently read Somewhere only we Know by Maurene Goo I think you'll love it! It has a kpop star and a tabloid person fall in love but of course, it's messy haha and they are both out of high school. They are both Korea American and the story takes please in Hong Kong. It is just the cutest whirlwind of a book. The first book that had insta love that I enjoyed :3
Also have you read Loveboat, Taipei ?? It's on my wishlist but I haven't heard people talk about it much....
Anyone who doesn't like Lara Jean ... we can fight
i read the astonishing colour of after fo the asianr eadathon and simply adored it! will read starfish this summer
you’re so beautiful,. i like this video as well. thanks for the recommendations
Its okay that you didn't post this right away, I appreciate that you were able to recommending books that have different POC (Asian, Koren, Paskistani, etc) that are in books.
Need to run to the bookstore and need to buy all the books that I don't own and need to read those, cause Chloe recommend ♥️♥️
:’)🖤🖤
Hi!!! I've never been so early to your video.... From Philippines 🇵🇭 here❤️❤️❤️
hiii! sending lots of love😘😘😘
Proud to see one of my “kababayan!”
I can’t wait to read Starfish. Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman was one of my favorite books last year💙
Thanks for all the suggestions, I've checked my bookshleves I only have spin the dawn which is about asian old culture from an asian author I think. I really need to enlarge more the section from stranger author.
A very large expanse of sea is a very good book! Also check out If cats disappeared from the world by Genki Kawamura and Kim Jiyoung born 1982, about women lives in South Korea, by Cho Namjoo ❤️
Julie Kagawa and Marie Lu are two YA authors that pop into my head.
You should read This Time Will Be Different by Misa Suguira & Butterfly Yellow by Thanhha Lai. I think you'd really like them & find the stories to be quite beautiful. Loved your recommendations! 💖
Your starfish vlog/experience inspired me to read a book that I can relate to so I picked up “I’m not your perfect Mexican daughter” by Erika L. Sanchez and oh my gossshhhhh
Hey Chloe please read some Indian authors too.
Loved the recommendations. Looking forward to more. Loads of love ❤❤❤
I really need to get to Darius the Great is Not Okay. I read American Panda by Gloria Chao and I really enjoyed it!
Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa is good. It is a Japanese inspired fantasy.
I highly recommend The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee, The Poppy War by R.F Kuang, and The Silence of Bones by June Hur. The last one is Korean historical fantasy!
I hope to get to Darius the Great is not Okay this month! I’m sure I’m gonna love it!
you 100% will!!!
I loved Wicked Fox!
Great video
In order to live is in my tbr. I'll absolutely recommend the carpet weaver by nemat sadat. A perfect lgbtq+ read
Omg why are you so pretty 😍
You should read The silence of the bones by June Hur so far it’s one of my favorites of 2020
Hi Chloe!!💖
HI🖤
frank’s parents were pretty frustrating 😅, but the book’s themes were so good! i need to read so many of these books still!
I read all of them only a astonishing color of after I want to read now immediately now it sounds great.
amazing!!!
which should i read first? the astonishing color of after or wicked fox?
A fantasy that’s really good is called brave story by miyuki miyabe! Its got a lot of studio ghibli vibes
I really want to read Wicked Fox
Laura Jean is young when people say she’s naive I’m like do you forget that she’s literally in high school like let a girl live. I can’t believe I still haven’t read Wicked Fox and I’ve had it on my shelves for so long but I’m going to soon!
LITERALLYYY and omg you need to read it 😍
I LOVE GIRLS OF PAPER AND FIRE
Sometimes it's very annoying to be Finnish because so so many great books don't get translated into Finnish.😅 And I don't think I'm good enough in English to read books in the language.. and on top of that I don't enjoy ebooks haha. I haven't even read the Harry Potter series in English even though I can find them at the local library. :D (tho the Finnish Harry Potters are literally so awesome ya'll don't have an idea..😉) Anyways great video as always!
seeing your face in my sub box made me 10x happier
omg love you so much🤧
Frankly in love is sooo good I laughed and cried
My Request:
"Reading All Harry Potter Books in 7 days"
unfortunately i’m no longer going to be posting HP content on my channel (because J.K. rowling sucks)
@@chloebunnie Because of the anti-trans??
@@chloebunnie Aww please don't stop. Don't let the books pay for the sins of the author!
Books with Chloe Every people has different opinions the only thing that we need to do is respect.
@@fresh_avocado Not talking about Harry Potter?! I could neveeeer 😁
I love Korean drama 😂 so much that after this video I ordered wicked fox
I want to here more asian book recommendations
I’m pretty sure, that 80% of my books are your favorites.. 😂 I almost buy every book you recommend (btw thanks, I love them all 💝)
This is becoming me lol.
omg :’) this makes me so happy 🖤🖤
Books with Chloe 🥰
You should read more Japanese work. Especially Haruki Murakami and Keigo Higashno if you like mystery thriller. And than the old japani classic authors are amazing and too deep.
Hey,chloe I’m 13 do u think I should read girls of paper and fire or do u think I should wait till I’m older cause it sounds amazing ,but at the same time if the king is like that idk lol could I please have ur info on it xxx
As a mother of a 13 year old. I would recommend getting your mother to look at synopses inform her on any trigger warnings plus look up reviews. Than you and your mother make that decision together. I hope this helps
I really have to say that you're gorgeous 😔
Do u have any netflix show recs that is similar to Avatar: the last airbender? It’s literally my fave show and I know u also very much enjoyed it:)
does anyone have Asian horror/thriller recs?
My only criteria for books is this: Does it interest me enough for me to want to read it.
Have you read Loveboat, Taipei by Abigail Hing Wen? :o
i have but didn’t love it :(
@@chloebunnie :(
I am so sorry for asking but is Girls of Paper and Fire a ya or an adult book?
it’s YA! 🖤
I’m so disappointed I DNFd Girls of Paper and Fire, I got 100 pages in and it just wasn’t good 😣
I'm really trying to diversify my reading. I also noticed I'm reading a lot of books by white girls
