ooh this came at a perf time. im trying to transition into my lit fic era from fantasy. yesss anything ocean vuong!! and i hve boy parts. had it for awhile but still haven't read yet...
I loved The Waves by Virginia Woolf! It’s one of my favourite books. Yes, it’s a little bit harder read, but it captures every tiny little “wave” in her characters’s mind. I also think that it’s very similar of how our consciousness is working and somehow she managed to put it into words I liked it more than I liked Orlando because it is more close to my taste when the narrator is more blend in the story
Recommending Woolf to get into reading? Girl ain’t PLAYIN OKKK!!! The Great Gatsby is perhaps the only book I ever liked out of high school and I’ve been meaning to reread it!
oh i don’t mess 😤 also great gatsby is also one of the few that i enjoyed from hs, and i think it’s a fabulous reread (esp through a queer coded lens👁️👁️)
🙋🏻♀️ i am def intimidated by virginia woolf but was so helpful to hear your thoughts on her and her books as well as the waves!! i’ll prob start with that one now
I have never read Woolf but looking at how I myself journal and how you described her writing I have to check her out now. I’m a messy writer I go in and just write down anything that’s on my mind and then read it back only to realize it makes no sense.
really fallen out of reading this year, been picking up books and putting them down again. a couple of these are on my reading list and i just recently bought the waves and i plan to read that later on in the year. really excited to experience woolf for the first time :) right now im reading a murakami book since he's a tried and tested author for me and i'm hoping it can re-establish a reading routine for me again. thank you for the video!
sry if this sounds crazy, but though i do love virginia woolf and would say orlando is also a good whimsical start to her genius, i'm going to say i looked at your channel and we own two of the same pairs of glasses (these and the rimless from firmoo), which you serve in, and it just feels like an odd destined reason to subscribe
I think Hemingway pisses a lot of people off, Moveable Feast is good but Mary Hemingway's autobiography is farrrrrr better (also has the origin story of Feast's manuscript which is pretty incredible, no spoilers)

i have a few woolfs under my belt but sounds like i need to prioritize the waves!! this is such a cool video idea and a great group of books!!
the waves is one of my favorites (behind orlando), imo it’s a pretty good fall/winter read!
Boy parts sounds like a heterosexual dennis cooper book lol. GOOD VIDEO!!
i’ve been really wanting to get into dennis cooper so that was the push i needed

jessica pratt!
6:12 I don't understand, who's afraid of Virginia Woolf??
i think many people find her intimidating because she is a classical author, and many people find classics hard to get into or inaccessible
