Hey Alpine, I'm of the the creators of the Vancouver inspired city, Westyard! Thanks for checking out the project, and I'm happy to hear that you have positive remarks for our skyline! Great to see that you were able to show off the similarities between our city and Vancouver.
The cut out is called a sun well I’m pretty sure so you can charge more for rooms with sunlight instead of having dark rooms or having less rooms per floor
beat me to it. yup, while there is less square footage on those higher floor's there is much more sunlight reaching throughout those entire floors; making them more desirable for tenants. A lot of modern high-rises will sometimes have a pool or other amenities on the platform that lightwell creates, just for the higher-end apartments.
imagine you’re scrolling on your UA-cam recommended, about to eat, you see “Roasting your builds (ep7)” and the thumbnail is the most beautiful stadium ever
I remember the first time I joined Andea I just walked around aimless by the city before finding the stadium, I went up trough the offices before entering the stadium at the exact same gate you started the video at, I got so shocked and laughed so much when I saw the scoreboard (I'm Brazilian) Whatching you at the exact same spot I was gave me a deja vu
I’m one of the people who built the Godzilla, really appreciate you taking a look at the build. I’ll be sure to fix the bridge, though as you said, I think it’s the least of those peoples problems.
As a Brazilian, I didn't like the fact that the stadium shows the worst moment of a Brazilian person's life. Please, do not remind us of this date ever again. Thank you!
One thing that really surprised me is that in the stadium the builder even decided to include a spider cam! I work in that side of the industry and not many people think to include it in their builds
Heyyy creator of Westfield heree! First of all thanks for checking out my city, I wasn’t expecting it to be first! I’m in 8th grade and I don’t know much math nor do I have any special tools to make curved roads, and am too lazy. Also, I couldn’t really fit any mid rises in the area and I noticed it was a big leap from the house to the building. Thank you for the advice and your opinions, you’re my main inspiration Alpine, keep it up man!
Oh that's awesome, I started to get into Minecraft city building around the same age! Keep up the great work, once you make more progress I'd love to see more pictures :)
Hey, im the person that built the police hq and thx for the tips ill be sure to update them, like i said in the post it was my first tell scale building i have ever made.
For residential space you need to have windows. By cutting into a building or having a center open courtyard, you can have more living area. New York I know is doing alot of this with vacant office buildings that are vast open spaces with only windows around the outside not built for individual units. Many units if build within an office building would have no windows and be stuck in the middle of the buidling.
My guess concerning the cut out in the building: Light. Those upper floors were top notch real estate. Average people would not be abble to afford those rooms. On the other hand, the upper class would pay for natural light so eagerly that developers would earn more by building less floor space. Perhaps there is something else: Lightbulbs were definitely becoming a thing when those buildings were designed (and being state of the art buildings in NYC makes them utterly likely to be equipped for electric devices). But: was it easy to efficiently light rooms with no natural light in a way that wealthy tenants would enjoy? Those rooms would have been unpopular compared to those with windows, I guess
Was kind of hoping you’d take photos in Vancouver, and then position your in game camera in the same position so we could get a direct comparison between both cities. Also, the editing on the train reminded me a lot of Hot Fuzz’s montage segments
Goddamn, that footage of Broadway City Hall brings me back. I have actually been to a dope Japanese restaurant right near there called Marulilu Cafe. Def check it out!
If this series continues for a while, i may submit my city when my downtown and areas around downtown are more developed. (It uses alot of mods so i may just send screenshots)
Hey alpine. You should check out wbc builds. He has a server with the best default texture building i have ever seen. Its base on 18-19-20th century europe but it is 100% worth a review.

Ngl I don’t really like modern building in Minecraft. It is cool, but at a certain point it gets too technical. I just like the organic feel of survival builds.

bro those shots between the buildings are literally killing me I don't know why, good stuff!
i think they cut these buildings in the past for ventilation and natural lighting, like some rowhouses in Manhattan have open shafts between them

Nice, thanks for the submission! Id love to see more builds if youre up for it :)
My guess why they cut into that middle section in Newspaper Row.
Natural light.
1:18 im not sure why but the ritz carlton in new orleans has a similar feature and they have a courtyard between the towers
I love how you say you’re going to roast them and then just compliment and tell them how they can improve instead lol

They cut into the middle section to let in natural light, that's why a lot of older buildings like the woolworth building have this feature

Nah it's by Willy Wonka but TheLimeHit rendered it
great stuff alpine one
thank you wad underscore underscore underscore
I think the cut in that white building probably has something to do with the set back requirement for most cities at the time.
iirc the cutin was because of some type of zoning law for sunlight

Nice I m building a stadium too inspired by the baseball stadiums
1:17 no AC, so everyone has to have windows?
