20:05 is actually the Cheese grater. Its a skyscraper in London that was designed like that to not obstruct the Cities most important sightline. St Pauls Cathedral
I am from the Netherlands and while i dont live in a suburban area they often look like that so that is good. also at first i thought the picture at 21:46 was a picture of the real world building they were trying to recreate and it took me a second or two to realise that it is the actual minecraft build. and it was the lantern that gave it away first, not the actual building itself...
Hey, this isn’t related to this video necessarily but you should totally make a video on specifically interior designs for common buildings like offices, apartments, condos, etc. Those are the areas I struggle in most when it comes to building city esc designs. Thank you!
20:09 I think that is the Leadenhall building in London, it's one of those super wacky skyscrapers in the CBD and it is nicknamed the 'Cheese Grater', really cool Minecraft recreation!
I liked the first one a lot. I had a RL-Server years ago and people started with a little hotel room so this would be a great alternative to have a little garden at the beginning
@@Alpine1 honestly, thanks for making such a great video! I've always made these small wackily scaled towns/cities/something, but this is really making me want to try something bigger. Thanks again and have a great night!
As someone living in the Netherlands I have got to say the first build is absolutely spot on. Would have recognized it was supposed to be Dutch even if you hadn't said so
same here, also Dutch, and the modern and somewhat minimalistic style is spot on. the small building sizes is also accurate. the Dutch often (especially on thin but tall houses we often have) have their stairs very thin, and pushed up against a wall. so even with the small space and the small stairs it would require, it's actually super accurate to actual dutch housing. our stairs are pretty cramped after all.
20:01 That's a very cool skyscraper in London, I've been just below. It's got on the backside (where all elevators are) perfectly transparent glass so you can see the 15-or-so elevators moving at high speed simultaneously in opposite directions. Then it's got a pretty cool yard in that open space between the metal frames It's 122 Leadenhall Street, def worth a visit to that area if you ever go to London
Hey, this showed up in my feed a year after you posted it so hopefully it’s your time friend. It was actually really enjoyable and yes, your voice is great. I wish you the best of luck.
I did calculations a while back and figured that a single normal block in minecraft equals to two American feet. For example: if you want a ten foot floor to ceiling, place five blocks. Because of depth perception in MC I tend to bend this rule when working with sidewalks as sidewalks are only a few inches above the road irl, I will place slabs for sidewalks even though it would translate to a foot of the ground irl
You should watch some videos by Not Just Bikes, you'll be amazed at Dutch architecture and infrastructure, or you could also visit the Netherlands yourself in the future, especially infrastructure is reaaaally good here
BTE Nyc member here: you have to learn to build in detail on diagonal, its a skill you pic up because some buildings face south-west for example and you cant do that in minecraft without making it diagonal.
17:06 interesting, the 21 story office building i work at has the elevators and both staircases not in the middle but all to one side, blocking a lot of windows. Whats your idea why they did that?
I have a question. From an engineering standpoint, why do skyscrapers not use triangular supports (trusses) to distribute the forces when bridges do. I get that the mechanics, forces, physics, and goals of the structures are vastly different, but aren’t trusses better at distribution of loads and stress than rectangular-ish beam supports? Is it a space/cost thing or are linear supports better in a simply vertical structure, or is it something completely different?
Absolutely! We have a lot of bedrock players on the Discord, feel free to drop screenshots of your builds in the #alpine-reviews-your-builds chat and I'll try my best to get to them in a video :)
so about the colour palette almost all plants are green so how does that take into account what colours you can use? can you not use colours that don't work with green then are you just forced to use something that compliments green?
I really depends, but as a rule of thumb try not to have EVERY colour (unless that’s what you’re going for), otherwise it’ll look messy. I try to only build in 2-4 solid colours that look good together on a small scale, that way when you scale it up it won’t look crazy
Hi, Since you're experienced with World Edit, I figured you might be able to help. Is it possible to make a mask in WorldEdit that places blocks only horizontally next to other blocks of a certain type? So instead of the < or > masks, I want it adjacent horizontally. So I could make a curved line by hand, and then use a brush to quickly add more lines hugging the first one. Thanks.
There are mods that allow you to make custom doors of pretty much any size that look great. Maybe looking into those could help alleviate your hatred for doors in Minecraft, haha. :P Edit: OH NO NOT COLOR THEORY! I've had multiple hour long lectures on JUST color theory. It really is hard to get colors right though- thank you for bringing that up.
I love your stuff man, but why Minecraft? Always wondered. It's so tedious to build compared to e.g. 3dsmax etc. Is it the enjoyment of building or seeing the finished product? I always find myself bored after an hour of a large project. Anyhow, love the videos and architecture :)
It's amazing how much you can learn from video games, and UA-cam alone. I have learned every detail of a car engine just from Google and UA-cam. I don't own a car, but it's still interesting to know that is o do one day I will know what's going on at all times.

The triangular glass skyscraper is a near recreation of 112 leadenhall street in London
I was just spending time rewatching some of your videos and now there's another one to enjoy, life is perfect for once.
Fun fact: Elevator motors in Bulgaria in new type of construction are on the lowest floor the elevator can reach, exactly next to it

Two foot are pretty much 60cm, so with this 1m would be 1.66 blocks.
The scale he uses is 1m is 1.5blocks, so yeah it's close
I think the little pipes coming out the roof might be dryer or boiler exhaust vents

Just wandering, why do you not use PTGI (ray tracing shaders)?
Because you need a f*cking beefy GPU for that?
Hello Alpine! Just wanna ask if there's CubedPack for MCPE?

Have you tried using ray tracing shaders? They can fundamentally alter how you think about building as the lighting starts acting more like real life.
