- Take a tour with our in-house historian, Paul Ullson, through the fascinating Fitzalan Chapel. Founded in 1380 by the 4th Earl of Arundel, the chapel has had a varied history, including damage during the Civil War in 1643-4. After a period of neglect, it was restored during the 19th century and is now one of our lovely surprises for you to find in our gardens.
This was excellent and Paul Ullson was very good at convincing me to visit.
Thank you for explaining how the Dukes of Norfolk came to be buried there. I think you have to be interested in learning about history when you visit these wonderful castles etc. I have a passion for anything Tudor and Stuart related. Guides provide such a wealth of knowledge that I don't understand how someone can walk in and stay for two seconds.
Thanks Paul, this was great, please can you do more, I found it more than interesting.
If I am ever able to visit, I promise to stay much more than 2 minutes.
A beautiful place
I'm a decendant of Richard Fitzalan
I'm a descendant too through my mother's side. The only reason I know is because they kept a very well documented line all the way to Mary Maverick(Gye born 1580). The Plantagenet colonist book contains her name as a descendent of the Plantagenets. George W. Bush and Queen Elizabeth 2 both trace their ancestry to Richard Fitzalan.
I'm a descendant also, had DNA done. So Awesome to find this Beautiful Chapel. Can't wait to see it in person. 🤗
I’m another descendent through the 4th Earl. It didn’t end well for him or the 3rd Earl. Ouch!
I’m a FitzAlan on my Fathers side.
Hey, me too! Nice to met you.
Which part is, St Edmund the martyr, resting within the chapel?
