One thing I always suggest is finding a UA-cam video with sounds of the local animals. People then realize that the more horrific the sound, the cuter the animal probably is.

Haha that's a great tip, especially helpful for our locals who come out mostly at night that you may not have heard before

You're right about solo camping being scary at times. Especially when you go camping in Coyote Country and they make a kill not far from you

One thing I'll say is we don't have that problem in Australia haha

In my area there's black bears and grizzlies where I go. I've had one mountain lion in my camp location and one black bear got into my tent. Those were not good situations but I prevailed. There's certain areas I don't go alone and would have an electric fence or an dog for early warning.

Very clear & concise, soothing to watch/listen to, and covers some really valuable points that are hard to think of as a first-timer. Awesome work!
A few tips that helps me deal with anxieties & fears:
1.) Insect repellent for march flies and mosquitoes
2.) Take a hiking pole or lengthy stick for clearing spiderwebs on the track, tapping long grass if it is snake season, and assisting with creek & river crossings
3.) Long clothing is great for an added layer of protection against insects, sunburn etc - particularly during summer, just use thinner garments so you don't overheat. It also stops you 'freaking out' every time something touches your arm or leg, like a harmless blade of grass hahaha.

Thank you, and they are great tips, feeling uneasy in your skin with creepy crawlies is definitely a big one for lots of people so they all help with that

Well here in Arizona. I love to go to the mountains up north here. I can certainly bring a gun. Sometime that’s just not available. My big concern here is Bears. Keep all your food away from your tent when sleeping. I also bring a can of Bear Mace and a very loud marine horn also in a can. Between the very loud noise and the pepper spray that should scare of Bears and Coyotes. If there is a Mountain Lion do not turn and run. Be loud and make yourself look as big as possible. If you run it will trigger their chase/hunt instincts. Or you could just bring a very big gun. If in North America, keep this in mind.

Yeah that's very different to us Aussies, we don't have large land predators so have it pretty easy out bush. My American mates have all said similar things though, especially using bear cans and carrying mace, but it's not really a situation I know much about

    • @happycactus
      @happycactus Рік тому +1

@@wildlinesau yes I would say very different in that respect. The animals down there just want to kill you out of spite, here in North America you are just dinner.

I love a good solo camp.
This video was really well put together mate.
And my solo camping tip ... bring a spare pair of socks, a hearty stout, and a tobacco pipe 🤣

Thanks mate, can't argue with the socks but the pipe might be an acquired taste haha

I would encourage everyone take some kind of protection. Whether thats a firearm, machetti or bear mace. Some people spend their entire lives out in the wilderness and never have a problem, others aren't that lucky.
Most will laugh, but theres alot more out there than predators like bears, dogs or big cats. Things that can easily break a grizzlies neck or shred it. They are on every single continent.
Theres ton of proof to backup my statement, but you will have to come to you own conclusion.
They have lied to us about almost everything.
