@@pbnotj1 Lol I agree, but I keep my shoes a lot longer. Last week I took a pair of Peg Turbos from 2019 out for a run, about 8 miles. They’ve easily got a 1,000 miles on them, but still are cushiony, stable and responsive. Also have a pair of Triumph 19s, still in good shape after several hundred miles.
Great review! I’m a heavy slow runner and really appreciate that you address how a shoe may or may not work for different types of runners!! Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the video! I’m a big fan of Topo shoes, currently have Cyclone and Specter 2, I have not run in the Specter 2 yet…BTW, I too started running 5 or 6 yeas ago, and for the record I’m 56 years old and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon, so I hope you keep up with running for longer, and of course putting out these videos!
a response to your words after the second run. Over the years we runners go through different phases. Fun workout to spark the legs is a track fartlek.. 200 meter stride out in 35 seconds jog 200 meters and do that for 16 laps. Doesn't cook the legs but gets the nervous system used to running fast.
I do my workouts in an outlet mall parking lot... very flat and the perimeter of the mall is 1/3 mile. It's not the most glamorous or most exciting location, but it works so well early in the AM before people come to shop. Maybe you could find something like that near you for workouts? Love the channel dude, keep it up!

I love mine. Identical stack and drop as Hoka Mach 6. My 2 shoes of the year. I use a lot of different shoes but always feel like running in the Spectre 2 and Cyclone 2 by Topo. Comfort and sweet Pebax.
They should be coming to the UK and hopefully over the coming weeks (August). I am looking forward to getting a pair to use alongside recently picked up Hyperion Max 2 as the shoes to take most of my mileage between now and Boston 2025.
@@tono1665 I have only had the Hyperion Max 2 for less than a week and only have two runs on them so far. The first of these was 5 x 1k at approx 6:20 to 6:30+ mi/mi pace (reps were into the wins along the seafront (flat) followed by a couple of sharp turns, uphill for approx +200m, two sharp turns and downhill (90 sec recoveries). This was then followed by 4 x 400m reps at approx 5:30 mi/mi pace. This workout included a 2.85 mile WU and a shorter CD (10.2 miles in total). My 2nd run in them was just an hour easy where I averaged 8:09 mi/mi pace. Early days but I can possibly see that they can be used across all workouts but possibly best as a Half Marathon or under training shoe. I have become spoilt and used to doing all of my hard training sessions and long runs in old carbon plated race shoes which I no longer wish to keep for racing. It will be nice to do some training in a heavier and more traditional feeling shoe that makes you work a bit. Plenty of pace can be put into the Hyperion Max 2 but it doesn't give you that more effortless feeling of an old carbon plated race shoe. The Hyperion Max 2 has certainly not felt uncomfortable at my slower paces (see above) although I have so far only run 7.36 miles in them on an easy hour so far (that was on tired legs the day after my first workout in them). It will be interesting to see how they cope with a LR. I am only currently trying to get some fitness back and training for 10k. If I were Marathon training then I might only use them for LR's where I did not want to put a lot of goal paced efforts in or a goal paced (or quicker finish). In short I think that they can be used for anything but might not be the best shoe out there for anything. A good daily trainer that you should be able to log a lot of miles on and use for a variety of runs. I am hoping that the Topo Specter 2 will be similar but a more peppy and nimbler option.
Just got myself an Asics Superblast 1 and I love it. Will buy this Topo once available. I think at present, I prefer non plated shoes. Even the plastic plated ones are too firm for my liking.
We Share the Sun and Running with Kenyans pretty good reads. Also Shoe Dog if you haven't read it. Thanks for another great review of this shoe. Hope to get them before you hit 100!
Puttin' down pace to just to see Will Ferrell baby... pumped for this one though, gonna come into the rotation: cyclone 2, puma velocity nitro 3, and this. That new Adizero Aruku looks crazy though.
Another informative and entertaining review! I bought the Adizero SL2 on your recommendation and couldn't be happier. Suits my mechanics perfectly. Thanks!
Hi Yowana, my girlfriend is a runner and at the beginning of the year, she got injured. Just this month, she resumed running and to celebrate her recovery, I want to gift her a new pair of shoes. I also remembered that at the beginning of the year, she mentioned that she was interested in buying the On CloudEclipse. Because of this, I've been watching sneaker reviews for a week and that's how I found your channel. It's very impressive all the shoes you review and the amount of detail in each review, which is why I'm a new subscriber and will soon recommend your channel to my partner! After watching many of your videos, I find myself a bit undecided since there are so many good pairs of shoes. As a reference, my partner has shoes from brands like Adidas, Nike, Hoka, and Asics. So, I wanted to ask if you consider the CloudEclipse to be one of the best daily trainers out there? I don't need it to be the best pair, I just don't want it to be a bad - average shoe. I know you have a video talking about the CloudEclipse and your first impressions, that was actually the first video I watched on your channel. I just wanted to know your opinion if you've used them for a longer period. Thank You!!
Thanks for the kind note! The Cloudeclipse is a good shoe - if she likes a lot of cushion and is a fan of the look, they'll be a good choice. They're not my favorite max cushion shoe for running, but they're a very comfortable ride, awesome for walking and I like how they look and feel. My favorite max cushion shoe of the year is the new balance more v5 which is softer and bouncier than the cloudeclipse, so that would be my main alternative if you want to get the best of the best
May be fun to compare this to Mach 6 and Cyclone 2 and SL2. At the same time I’m not sure I can get past the overhead view of these flippers even if they do beat the competition
bro it's funny how i was rewatching the initial review halfway, to see if i should preorder, and then you uploaded this one! great timing 😂 perhaps you should get some mozzie repellent!
Shoutout to Charli’s Vegan Recovery Kitchen! Re: Running Books. I got a lot out of The Science of Running by Steve Magness. It’s not a book of training plans, but it’s useful in understanding how you can build/augment your own training. It comes at it from both the scientists’ and coaches’ mindsets (because Magness has been on both sides). The first half is very science heavy, so if you’re into that, it’s interesting (I am), but even Magness says there are parts you can skip to if it’s overly technical. The second half is where all of that can be applied to your training outlook. Re: Specter 2. I’m a big fan of the Cyclone 2, but mainly for workouts and runs
Charli has been throwing down recently! And thanks for that rec - I ordered it 💪🏽 and this is a little firmer than the cyclone but I'm really liking it so far. Definitely not as cumbersome as the superblast
Topo shoes fit very well and breathability is great..I get the women's shoes cos it's a tad narrower and fits my feet great..pitch the ortholite insole and put a better insole in and the shoes work ok..I find that the outsole durability is pretty good..I will get a better color next time cos the black gets hot in the sun..good review again 😊😊
Great info! Interested in this shoe but can't get over the look and giant topo logo. Hopefully they make one with some more black on it, like the SC trainer v3.
If Topo follows their pattern, they will see how the awful release colors do, and then only later release a fly all-white. 😑I wish an all-white or all-black was available now! Either way I'll probably buy it soon.
I like the look of these. I already have the Topo Cyclone 2 and Phantom 3 which both fit my feet better than pretty much any other shoe. Just a shame that the outsole rubber is thin and not durable. Cyclone 2 is too low stack for me to run more than about 10K/6 miles so the Specter 2 looks promising.
45:24 Hotchkiss for stapler, Scotch tape for Celluolose tape, Jeep for Jeep-like 4WD suv these are commonly used in South korea and I would change my plan from buying SC trainer v3 to waiting more v5 or Balos because I realize that I'm not Super competitor but Hobby jogger thanks to your reviews. I'm 6'23'' ft and 243 lbs so more v5 would be my next NB shoes.
Given your size you might like the sc trainer v3. I've had a few people tell me the more v5 is too soft and squishy for them at around your size so that's something to consider - sc trainer v3 may be better with the firmer foam and plate
@@supwell Thank you for your advice. Actually, I felt that kind of feelings when I tried more v4 on New Balance store. You must be running shoes genius. I have ten days to decide to buy this premium expensive over spec super trainer or not. Take care.
Thanks for the in-depth review brother. Still stoked for this shoe, but I badly wish they would release an all-white... 😒 Have you ever tried the Hansons method, either for half marathon or marathon? I'm starting a Hansons HM block now, first time doing a formal training plan that includes speedwork. I'm still less than one year into this mid-life running journey. 😅 Keep up the great work my friend.
Yes I love Hansons for half marathon training! Helped me get my 1:19 PR from last year. For marathon training I've found that 3 faster/quality days per week is too much, but for half marathon training it's perfect. I really emphasized the Thursday race pace workout and made sure I was fully recovered going into that so I could hit it hard, and that made a big difference
@@supwell Awesome, thanks for the note! I may be remembering now that you have showcased Hansons on your channel before. I like their ideas: run nearly every day, mix many intensities, and instead of cross-training, just RUN! I am eager to see how it works this November for only my third HM. 💪
@@supwell Btw, loved the vegan kitchen segment. Love me some Beyond/Impossible. Unfortunately the healthier plant-based patties are usually insubstantial-too low calorie-so I make my own. My favorite recipe is Scott Jurek's lentil-mushroom burgers. You need a burly food processor and a bit of labor, but they're so worth it! Check 'em out.
The foam seems similar if not identical to the cyclone 2 - cyclone rides a little softer to me though because it's so much lower stack. The specter 2 feels firm to me at relaxed paces. And you should be good in same size as cyclone 2!
You just keep rolling out the reviews, much appreciated. Couple quires regarding the Specter 2, currently own the Specter and was in my rotation for a time, can you compare and contrast the differences? Secondly, any comparisons to be drawn between Topo Specter 2 and Salomon S/Lab Spectur (current fav HM race shoe) thanks
I haven't tried the first specter but I have tried the Salomon - the s/lab Spectur is a lot softer than this and rides more like a traditional race shoe with the carbon plate and soft top layer of foam. The Topo specter 2 is firmer and has more of a training vibe to it. They'd make a nice pairing with the Topo for training and the s/lab for racing since they have such different feels
honestly that's not a bad comparison at all. it has a similar cushioned feel that's not too soft, not too firm but with more pep than the clifton. it's not a super soft though - so if you're looking for something softer than the clifton with the same lower drop and some PEBA/race foam mixed in i'd go for the balos (which is indeed super soft)
@@supwell Thanks so much man! I am 300 miles into the clifton, and love them for the firmish boring aspect of it. Reliable for those runs that start as a 4 mile easy and end up being a 12 mile door to trail run.
Yowana i was gonna comment on the video where you said the pasta was perfect for refuel on one of your vids but forgot but this guy jake Zweig ex Navy seal always stands by it tells everyone to eat pasta for their runs bc I guess it breaks down easy and some other reasons I forget but it definitely works for me eat a good size bowl like 3 hours before a run and I usually do better than when I eat something different
Try Brad Hudson's "Run Faster". The schedules drawn up are unrealistically dense, which is to say too many hard workouts too close together. The workouts themselves are good and fit the concepts explained earlier in the book......it's just that you won't be be able to do 3 of them a week.
@@supwell Hudson is an unapologetic Canova follower. The whole idea of the book is to gradually increase specificity. So you go from short and fast some days with longer and slower some days. You evolve both of these and end up with the last key workouts very similar to the stresses of the targeted race. You probably won't just follow the written schedules but you can certainly use the ideas and add new things into your buildup.
Sagasu, tell me your thoughts. Nike is missing out on a massive marketing technique and product innovation that they already pay for. Why not give their HUGE athlete names a named product “designed by them” They have Jakob ingebrigsten who is definitely the most talked about name in track and field. He trains very uniquely and wins races. Perfect for a Jakob shoe. Let him get with Nike designers and design his dream trainer and racer. All the marketing could be about how his trainer is perfect for his double threshold training which everyone is trying right now. I really think a “Ingy Pegasus” or whatever they want to call it would sell like crazy. They have so many big name athletes they could use too
I'm guessing you commented this on the wrong video but that's been my hot take for a while! Give famous track athletes signature shoes like they do for basketball
Actually considering these or the Atmos. Have the Ultraventure 3s and they're great on just about any terrain apart from mud. A little worried that these are a bit slimmer than other Topo shoes and that my very wide feet might struggle though....
Charli has the Atmos and for a while said they were the softest shoes she's ever tried - I think the more v5 took that crown but Atmos is def soft and squishy and more of a relaxed running shoe. The specter is a lot firmer and better for speed. Also it fits pretty similarly to the cyclone if you've tried that - I haven't tried any of their trail shoe yet so can't compare to those
@@supwellWould the Atmos make a good long run shoe at between approx 7:50 down to 6:20 per mile pace do you think (for a runner approx 75kg) or just an easy day shoe only?
@@MarkSmith_Best-Athletics The Atmos is not super heavy, but it's not light either. I wouldn't buy it for anything except long and easy. I had a pair but returned it. Atmos fits snug in the midfoot (I have a normal width foot) with a ridiculously roomy toe, my toes were sliding around *too* much. I enjoyed the Phantom 3 a bit more. Just my 2 cents!
yeah if you don't want a plated shoe this is the best option on the market for a fast ride. definitely not as much pop as plated race shoes like the saucony endorphin pro 4 or nike alphafly but for a non plated shoe it's great - still comfortable but peppy, bouncy and nice speed assistance
Topo has the market cornered for 100% non plated PEBA! But Saucony hurricane 24 also has a thick stack of PEBA with some training foam underneath - thoughts on that one coming soon, but it's more of a relaxed everyday miles shoe vs speed shoe like the specter 2. And hoka mach 6 and Adizero SL2 are not PEBA, but both have a fun, soft and bouncy feel that you'd expect from that type of foam
I like the 100 mile review. One recommendation I have is: make the 100 mile review video a short video, 15 minutes. I bet a lot more people would watch those.

Max cush gang in full affect 😤
You could check out ‘Strength and Conditioning for Endurance Running’ by Richard Blagrove 😉
With the love affair you had with the Pegasus 41, will you be testing the Pegasus Plus?
Hahaha yeah I will. Should be getting it early/mid August
That will make her deviate! Go Specter
Thanks for the in-depth review brother. Still stoked for this shoe, but I badly wish they would release an all-white... 😒
Have you ever tried the Hansons method, either for half marathon or marathon?
Check 'em out.
how do you find firmness compared to Cyclone 2? Also when you say size up a half - are you saying compared to Cyclone 2 or go same as Cyclone 2?
The foam seems similar if not identical to the cyclone 2 - cyclone rides a little softer to me though because it's so much lower stack. The specter 2 feels firm to me at relaxed paces. And you should be good in same size as cyclone 2!
You just keep rolling out the reviews, much appreciated.
Couple quires regarding the Specter 2, currently own the Specter and was in my rotation for a time, can you compare and contrast the differences?
Secondly, any comparisons to be drawn between Topo Specter 2 and Salomon S/Lab Spectur (current fav HM race shoe)
thanks
I haven't tried the first specter but I have tried the Salomon - the s/lab Spectur is a lot softer than this and rides more like a traditional race shoe with the carbon plate and soft top layer of foam. The Topo specter 2 is firmer and has more of a training vibe to it. They'd make a nice pairing with the Topo for training and the s/lab for racing since they have such different feels

Hey @yowana does this remind you at all of the Hoka Clifton 9? I love the Clifton for a daily, and would love a peba version….am I just dreamin?!
honestly that's not a bad comparison at all. it has a similar cushioned feel that's not too soft, not too firm but with more pep than the clifton. it's not a super soft though - so if you're looking for something softer than the clifton with the same lower drop and some PEBA/race foam mixed in i'd go for the balos (which is indeed super soft)
@@supwell Thanks so much man! I am 300 miles into the clifton, and love them for the firmish boring aspect of it. Reliable for those runs that start as a 4 mile easy and end up being a 12 mile door to trail run.
Specter 2 , Novablast , Superblast 2 or Rebel v4 ?
Awesome I will check this one out
@@supwell Hudson is an unapologetic Canova follower.
Proprietary eponym: iPad, Jacuzzi, Axe and Blinker
Bang! I didn't even know jacuzzi was a brand name. Also Axe body spray is quite the pungent throwback 😂
@@supwell I also didn't know about Jacuzzi brand until we bought a house and needed a toilet. We settled on a Jucuzzi brand toilet
Sharpie is another one for permanent marker!
@@supwell I totally did! My bad dawg

Do you think these would be a good choice for half marathon race shoe?
yeah if you don't want a plated shoe this is the best option on the market for a fast ride. definitely not as much pop as plated race shoes like the saucony endorphin pro 4 or nike alphafly but for a non plated shoe it's great - still comfortable but peppy, bouncy and nice speed assistance

Thank you for calling me a nice person. Love your videos!
😂💪🏽
Wow, our bro here is 6'2. And I thought he was a shorty that was super efficient at running long distance. I'll be watching more from this channel.
Very interested in this shoe after these videos! Any other Pebax unplated everyday shoes to consider?
Topo has the market cornered for 100% non plated PEBA! But Saucony hurricane 24 also has a thick stack of PEBA with some training foam underneath - thoughts on that one coming soon, but it's more of a relaxed everyday miles shoe vs speed shoe like the specter 2. And hoka mach 6 and Adizero SL2 are not PEBA, but both have a fun, soft and bouncy feel that you'd expect from that type of foam
👍
They gotta stop pokin their nose in your business. 😂
I like the 100 mile review. One recommendation I have is: make the 100 mile review video a short video, 15 minutes. I bet a lot more people would watch those.
Q-tip is another one.
Hills will make you atronger than ever!
now that is pretty funny. Living in the modern age of make belief strava and tik tok, Jack Daniels is from the last century. I don`t know the books for competitive runners. For an old fashioned runer the following books are pretty good
The happy runner David and Megan Roche
Training essentials for ultrarunning V2 Jason Koop
Born to run 2 Christopher McDougall and Eric Orton
Training for the uphill athlete House/Johnston/Journet
The lost art of running Shane Menzie
or you just read Running the Lydiard way, mix it up with some modern up to date creativity and become a lifelong happy runner
I love these suggestions! Thank you 🙌🏽
I think I speak for all of your subscribers - now that we’ve learned you didn’t bother to time travel back to 2013 to evaluate the Guide 5, all credibility is out the window😂😂😂
PS - I was running in Nike Waffle and Adidas Runner back in 6th grade track. Can you review those?
Hahaha I appreciate you. It would actually be cool to get some retros but I gotta say the stack we have these days is amazing
@@supwell Lol trust me those old shoes weren’t that great.🤣
These are soft shoes than this review would indicate. They're definitely not that firm. Otherwise this review is accurate.
