When people give me a hard time about the amount of decluttering I do...I just respond with "well I just don't like housekeeping as much as you do...." because that is the core of my motivation to keep on top of the clutter- how easy it makes taking care of my house.
I have watched so many of your videos & have been working on decluttering my house (again), but I want to get my husband more on board. He is supportive of ME doing this, but I want to get him more involved - I think all of your videos are so good & really explain the value, but I want to pick one to get him to watch bc you explain the mental relief so much better than I can. If you could pick just one of your videos that really breaks that down the best (or just to really “hook” someone), which one would you suggest?
A place for everything - have him concentrate on putting away, you declined. He may be afraid of consequences or being wrong or even have decision fatigue after work. Putting things back in their "home" is soo much easier, reduces anxiety. Make sue everyone knows/agrees on "home" for every item.
What I didn’t realize when I started decluttering 9 years ago after retiring is how much FUN decluttering is. Not at first as you are overwhelmed by the sheer amount of work you have to do to physically remove a large percentage of your belongings. But once you hit the sweet spot and when your decluttering box takes weeks to fill up, you find the JOY in decluttering. Looking at a nice pair of leather boots and realizing that I don’t wear them but I know someone else will love them makes me smile. Taking a box of gently used books to the Friends of the Library for their sale makes me happy. Selling a piece of furniture on-line and saving the money for a trip feels great. My home feels cozy and welcoming and I feel calm and contented. Decluttering has given me so much peace and time to do what I want to do because I no longer have so much stuff to manage.
@@quickloadoflaundry I can think of many other things I would rather be doing. That's why! I really despise it but it has to be done if you want to continue to be simplified. It's not going to do itself. Also why not just return the item. Why declutter it if it's only been a week.
I’m so pleased Dawn that you were the first person that I discovered on UA-cam, that truely helped me understand the art of decluttering and it’s ok to let things go. I’ve been decluttering on and off for the last 6 plus yrs, do heaps, then stop, buy more things and refill my home. It’s been a vicious circle, absolutely hated having visitors, because my home was so cluttered but I didn’t know how to let things go, then one day I watched the minimal mom and I was hooked. It was still a slow process of learning the art of decluttering, I’m 61 about to turn 62 and you definitely can teach an old dog new tricks. My step son decided to come and surprise his Dad for his birthday, I knew from late July that he was coming September 21st and I’m looking at my cluttered home and thinking him and his sister grew up in a home that you could do the white glove test and my home looks like it should be on a episode of hoarders and that’s what spurred in into being serious to get this mess sorted. So far and l still want more out, 80-90 garbage bags have gone to the dump plus boxes of stuff. 90% should have been donated but I don’t have the bandwidth to have stuff in boxes to be donated because I have hoarder tendencies, I will second guess myself and go back through it, yep I know because I’ve done it before, so to the dump it went. I did donate a few things for a church fete that is coming up but the majority went to the dump. The biggest things that gave me the most pain to let go of was Material and wool, oh the joy of being a hoarder. I did have 19 tubs of material, these tubs are 50Ls, I’ve only got 5 now the rest I gave to two friends that are making things to sells. I had 6 tubs, yep 50L tubs of wool, l gifted them to my granddaughter because she loves to crochet, to give to people. It hasn’t been an easy process but it’s definitely getting easy, a few tears and some struggling to let things go but I did it. I didn’t buy things to just throw them out, I brought them because they were pretty and I wanted them, I now definitely look differently at my home and possessions I have. My step son came, I did talk to him and his girlfriend about my hoarding, and the reasons it escalated so badly after my Dad and sister passed, issues with my children. Jess said it sounds like I have abandonment issues! I thought WOW now that makes sense. I think the main reason I can declutter easily this time round is because I’m very happy and contented in my life, I may have issues with my children but I have some amazing friends and people around me. I just did Cass’s 30 day challenge and was totally amazed at what I found in 5 minutes each day, so much easier because I have less clutter around. Yesterday we had 2 unexpected guests arrive and the first time in my life I didn’t stress because of my home, I actually asked them in, we sat and had coffee, it was a wonderful feeling. I love my bathroom that has stayed clean for the last 3 weeks, I cried the first time I walked in and saw what I actually achieved, it also showed me what the rest of my home will look like. I’ve said this before but I will NEVER be able to thank you enough for everything you have done for not only me but countless people. Your love, kindness and gentle guidance is what makes this process so amazingly easy.
Been a minimalist for over 25 years. My husband turned on hoarders last night and it does something to me. I got up and found a few things to get rid of.
@@dgiovanni662 I agree I don’t like watching it either I end up yelling at the TV “just throw everything away you don’t need it” my husband says you know they can’t hear you. I say yes but it makes me feel better.
I used to be an impulse buyer and ended up with so much stuff. About 4 yrs ago, began the deluttering pricess. I started with developing a monthly budget and a specific place to put all my important everyday items: reading glasses, keys, wallet, etc. This took a year because the old habits were so deeply ingrained. But allowing for that time was a game changer for me.😊
I found you in May and my life has changed….. for the better, I share you with anyone who will listen. I can take time during the day to read an hour, to have friends over without cleaning for days, thank you.
A friend’s church is taking donations for people affected by the hurricane. This is the push I needed to declutter my closet even more! And I know I will not need 6 pairs of jeans & shirts & several sweaters & coats! This feels so good! Thank for your help with this mission over the years to get me in the mindset of less really is more! ❤❤
I just really started decluttering for real last month. I am happy that I was able to get rid of 25 black bags of stuff. Now I am starting my 2nd month. I cannot wait to see how many this month.
I started several years ago with the Condo method then started watching you. I've decluttered at least half of my house, and now in the onion stages, going back through often and now I am a better purchaser and think more before I buy. I say no to 'things.' Thank you, Dawn
I've been intermittent fasting for over 2 years with fabulous results. It was a game changer for my health. Then the idea came to me this past spring... If I have successfully decluttered my food intake, why not my home & family business? I found your channel about 6 months ago. And wow!! Talk about results! You have been so motivating & encouraging! I've been taking notes so that I don't forget what I've learned. I can't sit at my jigsaw puzzles and sip coffee anymore because you've proven that five minutes with a black trash bag and donation box will clean out just one more corner of my cottage home!! I've donated two car loads to thrift stores, given things to friends, and yes, trashed stuff into a bag! Can't thank you enough 🎉❤😊 Love your channel!
I'm starting to understand what you are saying on a deeper level now. Before, I always thought, man, I should call so an so or write to that aunt. Now, that I've been decluttering for about 9 months, I just call these people. What? It started when I actually tackled my books again. Something shifted in my mind. Thanks for your help, Dawn!
Thanks so much for all of your help. I've gotten rid of (let go of) a large % of my household items. I've definitely benefited from less stress and easier cleaning. But the surprise benefit has been money savings ! I have not bought a single "decor" item, clothing item, craft or stationary items, since I decluttered. That's a BIG deal for me. Anytime I thought about it I remembered all that I had "let go of" and how ridiculous it would be to replace it.
@@angelastein7724 Nah, just a guestimate. I look at my shelves, clothes and furniture and only see about 30% of what I previously owned. Not a stupid question at all. I think you get a feel for it the more you declutter.
If my closets are absolutely jam packed before I declutter; and only half full but not a jammed half-full afterwards; I‘d say it’s a really safe bet that I got rid of 70%. Same with stacks of junk on my end tables to 3 or 4 intentional pieces of decor. And so on. ;)
You are amazing. I’m almost 69 (next week it happens) I have learned so much from you. When my house is a mess my anxiety is out of control I never but the 2 together. Thank you for your help, and God bless you and your family 💕🤗
"Carrying cost" thank you for giving me a word for that! I'm moving to another state, and I never realized how much stuff I had until I had to move it further than 30 miles. I restricted myself to ONE 5X8 shipping container and what can fit in my car. I'm 2 days out from moving, and I'm still revising what I actually want/need! 😅 I have a feeling there's going to be several more items I can let go of the day I head out lol Huge THANK YOU to you and Cas (Clutterbug) for helping me through my 3 year long journey of decluttering. I've gotten rid of 80-90% of my stuff, I know myself better, and I'm making MUCH better choices! You two are AMAZING! 💖💕
Dawn, seeing you in a black top again reminds me to say "Thank you!" for taking us along with your uniform wardrobe a few years back. I pared down to black tops and jeans or leggings (for the most part). It is amazing how freeing that has been. I had no idea how much band width I'd been using to shop for and choose clothing. This is one of those areas where a smallish change has reaped a disproportionately large benefit!
I am in the midst of decluttering (downsizing from a 3 BR 2 BA home to a 2 BR 1 BA apartment--there were boxes in every single room and now in only one) and your videos are getting me through it! Thank you so much!!!
The biggest difference for you is that larger pieces of bedroom furniture and bedding has to be let go. When you downsize, the floorplan determines the amount of furniture the rooms can hold.
I love your point about taking control over our environment! ✨I can always see the state of my life & mind by the state of my home. Shoes on the floor? Too rushed. Clothes on the dresser? Poor sleep & chaotic mornings. Toys strewn about? Too many toys 😂
1. Decluttering reduces stress and provides a sense of control over your life 2. Reducing clutter makes it easier, faster and more enjoyable to clean your home 3. Less clutter increases your motivation, focus and productivity 4. Decluttering shifts your mindset and forces you to look at your stuff more critically; is it adding value or weighing you down? 5. The act of decluttering improves your ability to make good decisions more quickly and with confidence 6. Decluttering frees up mental and emotional bandwidth so you can focus on what matters most in your life 7. Reducing clutter gives you a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction
I don't know.....l've raised and still raising my kids after 17 years straight, cook at least once a day, wash the dishes more than 1000 consecutive days. I guess standards are low these days????????
I have decluttered for over 20 years. Once I started I quit buying things. I have put more than one thing back on the shelf as I decided I didn't want to be responsible for cleaning it. So freeing!!
Agree. Once things start leaving the house and resulting in a sense of peace and order, I am reluctant to bring new things into my home. It is very satisfying to just walk away from the temptations.
Take photos of sentimental items that you no longer use. "Store" that item on your phone, not in your house ~ visit it anytime! Say a prayer for the next "steward of your stuff"... give away & rest well! ♡
What will happen when your mobile phone stops working or is lost? This scenario has happened to me 3 times over 12 years. Precious family photos on my mobile phone lost. Trust me, not a good back up Plan B.
@mariastathopoulos744 House fires and floods consume as well. I don't like living in fear so I back my phone up to the cloud. Fire nor floods nor broken phones can take away your memories. I have more precious "photos" captured only by the shutter of my eyelids. Very FEW photos were taken 100 years ago and fewer yet survived. Are they wonderful to have, YES. BUT then they lived in the moment, cherished it, and passed it on through word pictures a/k/a stories. Stories live on while a photo molds or disintegrates in storage.
@@kywifette5415 Yes, my children's baby photos are in my memory. Back in the day, photography was a luxury and people either sketched a loved one or just committed their image to memory.
I've needed this for years. My husband has fussed so much about the amount of stuff we have and now, I feel lucky to have found you and this site since I can relate to everything you are saying. I was starting to think I needed to go to counseling but honestly, I hear what you are saying loud and clear and you're so inspiring that I am getting stuff out of the house. Now, my husband is saying he's happy for me that I'm taking action. He is the minimalist, or so he thinks. This is helping me so much!! Thank you, thank you a million times. You are doing great work for the many of us that desperately need it.
Everyone needs to hear this. All of those things are so true! I just keep decluttering and organizing and giving to friends and donating. It never ends and it clears ur mind like nothing else. 🤗🤗🤗🤗
I finally listened to you about "if putting toys away is hard, they have too many". Yesterday, there were a lot of kids over at the house. It took less than 5 minutes to pick up everything. It was great!
In the middle of a difficult move right now and definitely feeling the carrying cost! I decluttered what i felt like was so much before we moved and we are continuing to declutter more as we unpack... my 8yo daughter keeps asking "what can we donate today?" And saying "don't give up downsizing momma!" And so proud as she found several things on her own of her own belongings to declutter (mostly costume jewelry and mostly used coloring books)... she was so excited and said "i can only wear one necklace at a time any ways and if i keep them all they aren't all special".... she is light years ahead of me 😁
And yes, she loves Dawn and Cas as i often play them in the background through this process... she is helping to encourage all the other littles along the journey as well... and they have on their own donated about 50% of their toys after I had cleaned and downsized about 25% of the trash and never used toys... left with the 25% they are even happier than they were before!
I’ve been working on what I can control but the things I can’t control are huge at the moment. I’ve never been in control of my adult house as I lived with a hoarder. Now I’m single I have to consciously remind myself going into every room is that I have the power to have a tidy, beautiful, manageable home that reflects my personality and Bee/Cricket organising style. 😊
This video hit home. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, out of control and stressed I declutter and it makes me feel better. Plus my house’s functionality and looks improve too and I need less than 5 mins per room to reset it! I learned how to declutter from your videos and I still use them to body double, even for simple tasks at work. Hearing your voice is like having a friend over. Thank you so much Dawn!
If there is too much to put away it really takes up time and energy to do that instead of cleaning. I really like how you pointed that out. I currently have that issue with Laundry...I used to be a major hoarder and it took me a long time to realize how much more work I can get done if I had less stuff to put away. Thank you I enjoy your videos so much. A great motivation as I declutter my closets!
I used to wonder why when I got angry/upset/disappointed, I would "rage clean". It was because subconsciously I was trying to exercise the only control I felt that I had at the time. Now that I am well into my minimal-ish journey, I am better able to keep my home clean AND handle the stressors in life. This video is spot on!
I recently commented on one of your older videos and then I remembered that you said you only read comments for a few hours or days after posting, so I thought I would comment here. I recently found your videos and have been binge watching them for the past 2 weeks! I started to declutter my bedroom, while watching some of your long content videos, and I threw away 2 trash bags from my bedroom of things I was just hoarding (just in case one day I need them), and 2 large bags of clothes from my closet! It feels so nice and I can't wait to start on my kitchen tomorrow after work! Now I will not be going too far, baby steps and letting my house talk to me. Getting my DH on board with his things will take some work but I am hoping that when he sees how happy I am without the clutter he will want to follow suit! Thank you for all that you do and I love you too!
I have been enjoying your videos since 2020 and have made great strides in decluttering and being able to keep my house tidy. So much so that my husband will make random comments about how he appreciates the “feel” of our house. I couldn’t help but think of the movie Overboard where the husband comes home late one night and looks around the house that his wife has made into a home. My favorite part of the movie. Thank you for all you do.
I started my decluttering the last day of Sept! I have a long way to go, but so excited to dig out from under all the stuff! Your laughter sounds musical. It always makes me smile. 😊
You have been helping me to declutter my insane basement. We have been donating and gifting items on and off for months now. Your videos make a difference! Oh, and I removed all of the clutter and decor on my kitchen counter. We now keep it clear aside from our toaster. It looks great and feels even better!
It overwhelmed me many times. I have learned this is a slow process and when I accept that I’m slow but as time goes on I see changes❤ I also learned from your channel this is not one and done it is a journey. Thanks for the advice today and 5 minutes matters is my daily reminder 😮
❤ i almost cry when i watch it🥹 i just wanna ty ty ty. You and some other minimalist like Joshua Becker made a huge impact on my life. I am a teacher and i am starting a new project with my students about essentialism and how to stop over consumerism. I love you and i really enjoy your videos🌸
Dawn, you are the sweetest! I'm not in the mentorship group, but it sounds like you are a faithful friend there. I'm amazed that you do that. I appreciate your faithfulness in putting out helpful videos each week. They do help me. Thank you so much! I've come a long way, and your videos keep me going when I have a few minutes here or there.
Thank you Dawn for the Inspiration! I have experienced every single benefit on your list and am so determined to go further in my declutterring. All the best to you and your family.
I am not a Mininalist...nor a hoarder.... but you do share a lot of TakeAways that we can all use in our lives... I do declutter on a regular basis...and have a trunk load in the car going to donation center today... I love when you talk about Inventory... it gives our stuff a non emotional , non sentimental vibe...makes it easier to decide whether to keep/give away.
Dear Dawn, my husband just body-doubled with me, and I managed to get through the photos and sentimental items. Oh, what a massive relief! Thank you and bless you for all you do for others.
Thank you Dawn. I was feeling bad about not having time to sell things but I knew deep down there is no where in my life right now or the foressable future to pluck it from so I had to say goodbye to things that were weighing me down. And I had that reassurance from a family member also which helps ❤. Your videos are good tools to keep us going too!
We ordered a helix mattress because of you!!😊 we absolutely LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!!! No going back! Love your videos n have learned so much about decluttering!
We purchased a TV after 20 years of not owning one. You described us to a T with binging series, we’re into Blacklist. James Spader is a phenomenal actor and we just cannot get enough of him. We easily watch 3 to 4 episodes per night😮!! 10 seasons, it’s a lot of TV watching, at times we have to take a 2 to 3 day break!
Clutter lives in people's minds. So when I see cluttered home, chaos, litter everywhere, I presume what's in our heads. Clutter in our heads projects in our surroundings
I just want to say I LOVE your presentation style. You're so cheerful and upbeat while still being so relatable, it encourages me that this is something I can handle, too. Best wishes to you and your lovely family from Ecuador. :)
Dawn, I find you so fun to watch. Your energy and positivity is so motivational. The journey you take us on is life changing! Thank you for Sioux Falls South Dakota ❤️
Thank-you so much Dawn. Teaching our kids how to make decisions about purchasing and decluttering and cleaning is so important. I love you and I can’t believe the difference you’ve made in my life !
The act of decluttering really does lower stress and anxiety. It's turned into a fun hobby😂 I'm always curious how the 6 of you sit at that table with 4 chairs🤔
There are those of us who were raised by grandparents and parents that experienced either the depression or very hard times. Because of that, they were always hesitant to throw anything away for fear that if they needed it one day, they would not have the means to go out and buy it again. Also, many of the UA-cam channels promote prepping and making sure you have adequate supplies - again with the thought that an emergency may happen and you will need what you put aside. I love seeing your clean and organized home and I understand the freedom that way of life provides, but I also see the wisdom of keeping an assortment of items for emergencies and the unexpected. I guess we all do what we feel is best for our situation and hopefully come to a happy medium of not putting aside too much.
I have been able to save thru this economy. To a better level than I have in years past. That is for the simple fact that we can no longer eat out and eat 99% of our meals from home. This saves us tons. Most people can cut out something from their budget especially when forced.
I'm on my road to declutter my home, I live in a very small apt, and my stuff feel overwhelming here. I do a little at a time bc its Hard. Thank you for your videos❤.
I'm in the process of moving, without having a place to move into yet. Mostly been doing HUGE declutter sprees throughout the past month... I've taken at least 16 big boxes of stuff to Goodwill this past month! My car is small so I have to do like a max of 4 banana boxes at a time on a day off. Talk about open loop! I got most of my room packed up, still got stuff in storage units, boxes of mine stacked in the hall... talk about open loop living! I HATE it! It's been a very stressful month! No wonder I've been feeling like drek the past couple of days and constantly fighting off anxiety! Though speaking of my storage unit, it is a 5x10 space and it was full to the brim! NOW there's 35 boxes/crates left! I do have a before pic, not fully from the start but close enough and a current pic that lets me see just how much progress I made in getting rid of stuff! The $20 or less as well as the past me vs present me tips have helped TREMENDOUSLY! I explained those two tips to my mom and she's said how much it's been helping her too! She's starting to declutter stuff as well as my sister who's also moving. And yes, I watch decluttering videos DAILY to keep in the zone!
My family and l have moved several times. The general guideline is 13 boxes per person. This accounts for each person's clothing, bedding, personal possessions (toys, DVDs, photo albums etc) The kitchen will have the extra boxes.
You’ve just hit the nail on the head. I’m actually disappointed that I’ve finished. I couldn’t work out why I’m anxious rather than at peace and you’ve made me realise it’s because my ‘therapy’ has been taken away now there is nothing left to declutter. Xx
I find something to declutter every day. And everytime it feels so good. 2 weeks ago I was in trouble. I really wanted to have Vinyls to listen to music. It felt wrong at first to bring in stuff, but it was well thought about and because the rest of the house is decluttered I could do it. I found a designated spot for the player and vinyls and I am happy so far. Has anyone made such an experience?
I love your "main things I've learnt" points! Thank you. I'm sitting watching "Sort Your Life Out-" ~bbc, with Stacey Solomon ~ you would be a great project manager on a version! They take ALL the things to a warehouse to make the choices, and move furniture/ build cupboards and ORGANISE what's left.
My Mkom used to quietly keep our home clean, and when I became an adult and responsible for my own home I realized I had absolutely no idea how she did it. It was a complete mystery! I tended to save everything thinking it was still usable even after I got a new one of whatever it was. I felt obligated to keep gifts that I did not use or even like. I had no thought process about keeping up with cleaning, and it was difficult due to how crowded the spaces were. I never thought about declining free stuff or where I would fit something on sale. All that changed thanks to Dawn, and also Dana Whites's voice after dinner in my head saying "Just do the dishes!" Dawn gives us the guidance we all needed as we grew up but missed because of either parents who did not know how to keep a clean organized home themselves, or because they had a very efficient but quiet parent who did it all themselves which did not require child participation/ learning. Thanks, Dawn!
Thank you for this comment, I just had conversation with my 15 year old daughter about life. I told her Im preping her for aduthood. I want to give her more and more responsibility+freedom over her life, so it wouldnt be shock at once, when she turns 18. I Dont want her to think that life somehow runs itself, but its on her to run it. Im trying to share everything I learned in my 45 years.
@@lucystrider728 When my daughter became a wife and mother she said to me but mom I don’t ever remember seeing you clean and our house was always spotless. They did have a few chores but I was a nanny to a few kids so I was always home and did the housework when they were in school. I’ve always been a minimalist and my daughter picked up be minimal not quite a minimalist. Maybe when her children are older I know it’s harder with babies.
Wow! You counted the days you decluttered! Crazy pants🙂 At our home decluttering is a way of life & happens on the daily. Whatever we're doing we check if we still need/want whatever stuff we're handling. It's just become a mindset. SO much easier to declutter as you go... of course, this is the result of the kids all moving out + 7 years of intense periods of serious decluttering. Whew!
With Netflix what I do is go to the comments on the internet that do individual episodes. Most have a synopsis and you can read the first five minutes. I hate the cliff hangers. They make you stressed just before you go to bed.
Okay I’ve watched the video and read the comments. I’m going to go for it and declutter for real. How many bags can I get out of the house this month?😊
(Wife typing) Dawn, I know it's super individual to each family because of ages and stages, but could you do (or do you already have) a video about decluttering homeschool materials???? I feel stuck in the "What if" mindset for if we ever need the curriculum again for a child with a certain learning style or...just all the "if's". Thank you!

Can you please do more videos on minimal shopping habits? 😊 I need more help on that!

Bless you for sharing.

Great job. Keep on decluttering... you can do it! Well said about Dawn. She is a blessing for us all.
I actually get more joy from getting rid of things than acquiring things
I am currently decluttering. I so feel much more empowered!!
Been a minimalist for over 25 years. My husband turned on hoarders last night and it does something to me. I got up and found a few things to get rid of.
Yes that program totally makes me do the same thing! It also makes me want to wash everything in my home 😅
It panics me, have trouble watching this
@@mishypeas2959 Yes, I have to agree with you.

This is so awesome to hear Judy! WELL DONE!!!!
ahh, when your Mum (Mom) came on the camera - she just made me physically smile!! Thanks to her for raising such LOVELY girls💛
Me too, she looked so cute and happy. It was so sweet seeing her helping.
I did it the other way around. I found minimalism and through that I later found intermittent fasting 😀 Excellent. Go you!
People forget they should declutter their social network, too! Getting rid of toxic people would reduce anxieties much fast than an empty home.
Way to go! Love those declutter sessions when you can't even stop to take it easy because getting rid of more 'stuff' is too much fun! 🎉
Dawn - thank you for your genuine love & care for all of us! I’m so blessed by you, here on UA-cam as well as in your mentorship group ❤😊
THANK YOU Lisa! I'm grateful for you, too!
Thank you for making these videos and sharing your life. I ALWAYS find something new to take away from every video you create ♡
THANK YOU, that means more than you know!!!!
I feel the same way! There's always a little nugget of info to take away.
Most times it's a shift to a different perspective!
I'm shocked at how easy life is with 70% less crap in my home.
Not to ask a stupid question but how did you get that percentage? Did you count everything? I wonder how much I’ve gotten rid of
@@angelastein7724 Nah, just a guestimate. I look at my shelves, clothes and furniture and only see about 30% of what I previously owned. Not a stupid question at all. I think you get a feel for it the more you declutter.
Same!
😅 I have a feeling there's going to be several more items I can let go of the day I head out lol
Huge THANK YOU to you and Cas (Clutterbug) for helping me through my 3 year long journey of decluttering.
1. Decluttering reduces stress and provides a sense of control over your life
2. Reducing clutter makes it easier, faster and more enjoyable to clean your home
3. Less clutter increases your motivation, focus and productivity
4. Decluttering shifts your mindset and forces you to look at your stuff more critically; is it adding value or weighing you down?
5. The act of decluttering improves your ability to make good decisions more quickly and with confidence
6. Decluttering frees up mental and emotional bandwidth so you can focus on what matters most in your life
7. Reducing clutter gives you a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction
Doing anything for 1000 STRAIGHT days besides breathing is amazing 🎉

@@mariastathopoulos744 you need to upload photos to the “cloud” as a backup.

“If you’re not useful, you’re dead to me!” 😂 thank you for that Dawn! I needed it worded just that way so I’ll stop over thinking all of the things!
I decluttered what i felt like was so much before we moved and we are continuing to declutter more as we unpack... my 8yo daughter keeps asking "what can we donate today?" And saying "don't give up downsizing momma!" And so proud as she found several things on her own of her own belongings to declutter (mostly costume jewelry and mostly used coloring books)... she was so excited and said "i can only wear one necklace at a time any ways and if i keep them all they aren't all special".... she is light years ahead of me 😁
And yes, she loves Dawn and Cas as i often
play them in the background through this process... she is helping to encourage all the other littles along the journey as well... and they have on their own donated about 50% of their toys after I had cleaned and downsized about 25% of the trash and never used toys... left with the 25% they are even happier than they were before!
That is so sweet!
You are truly a gem. Thank you for being a friend to all! And Happy Birthday too!🥰
I used to wonder why when I got angry/upset/disappointed, I would "rage clean". It was because subconsciously I was trying to exercise the only control I felt that I had at the time. Now that I am well into my minimal-ish journey, I am better able to keep my home clean AND handle the stressors in life. This video is spot on!
Yes, rage clean! Me too.
Dawn, you have helped me so much!! My life has changed because of you. Thank you so much for what you do! You're a blessing!

Thank you for your videos❤.
thank you so much! ❤
This accounts for each person's clothing, bedding, personal possessions (toys, DVDs, photo albums etc)
The kitchen will have the extra boxes.
You’ve just hit the nail on the head. I’m actually disappointed that I’ve finished. I couldn’t work out why I’m anxious rather than at peace and you’ve made me realise it’s because my ‘therapy’ has been taken away now there is nothing left to declutter. Xx
Ha! Now you can use all the free time created with decluttering to find another therapy in form of hobby or spending time with family/friends!
you changed my life 😊 thank you so much
That is sooooo true!!!! it takes me so much time to put stuff away that I can never actually get to the cleaning part!!! Haha
Thank you so much for all your help 😊 ❤️ I've been doing so well! Just missing the kids crafts and photos 😬😬 wish me luck
Really like the Tidying verses Cleaning explanation. 👍🏼
I've got a load of cookie cutters I've rarely used. Going to get rid of 90%, just keep a couple of good quality ones. They're going today.
Whew!
Offtopic but those faux jute plastic tubs from Walmart are really mvp of organizing…….love them
With Netflix what I do is go to the comments on the internet that do individual episodes. Most have a synopsis and you can read the first five minutes. I hate the cliff hangers. They make you stressed just before you go to bed.
I’m starting to declutter, however I wish I had friends with this same mind set. My husband and my friend’s are always wanting more things 🤦🏻♀️
I love the word fruits ❤❤❤
Okay I’ve watched the video and read the comments. I’m going to go for it and declutter for real. How many bags can I get out of the house this month?😊
(Wife typing) Dawn, I know it's super individual to each family because of ages and stages, but could you do (or do you already have) a video about decluttering homeschool materials???? I feel stuck in the "What if" mindset for if we ever need the curriculum again for a child with a certain learning style or...just all the "if's". Thank you!
Great question! I actually have a free workshop for homeschooling parents, if you go to The Minimal Mom dot com and click on “resources” you should see it! ❤️
