The only person to blame is urself for buying without inspection no matter what! The only thing that really matters is that the engine runs well and no mechanical issues.Everything else are minor issues not problems..They can be fixed or resolved. What do u expect with a 22 yr old car unless it's a collector and showroom condition? Quit complaining and calling these minor issues Problems!! Do something about it.This is probably ur approach in life! There are No Problems Only Solutions..

Did you sell it?? Or did you dive in and start fixing? My 96 was a lot of work also at 155 K miles when l bought it as a 18 year old abused car. Still working on it but enjoying it and driving it

@@easydriver3117 like the previous person stated, you messed up by not inspecting the car yourself. They’re in the business to sell cars, they’re gonna tell you whatever it takes for you to buy the car, next time do not purchase a car without physically inspecting it yourself to make certain it is to your liking. As a Z3 owner myself, these cars are fairly inexpensive to fix cause they share a lot of parts with the 3 series. Most of your complaints are cosmetic and if you put about $500 bucks give or take a few into the car just fixing things little by little you don’t have to do it all at once you will have the car in the shape you desire. If haven’t sold it yet, I suggest you fix it and enjoy the Z3 man.

It sounds like your scared of a little elbow grease, some of these problems you said are common problems on high mileage z3. It’s a 20 year old car it’s gonna have issues. That said I think you should look into a Honda

Think your been a bit picky for a 20yr old car . There are plenty of interior parts on FB Z3 pages, the seat is just a plastic spacer that needs replacing . The roof you need to move the Center bar forward and it will drop down. Try locking the car via the boot lock until you repair it.

Cheap and easy fixes! Just unbolt the Z3 panels, it will take you about 2 hours and bring them to the paint shop. Just look for the other missing parts online. For the key, there is an easy trick, you can find this also on YT. If you had done your homework, you could have known this all by yourselve. Great car.

Sad to hear about the issues you're having and hope it's all sorted soon. In your shoes I'd be issuing that ultimatum - either take it and fix the faults and deliver it back or take the car back and issue a refund. It certainly isn't on that they can arrange delivery there to sell you the car and then say "COVID means we can't sort issues out", I've been working at a main dealer all the way through the lockdown anyway and the motor trade is very much alive and ready so they should be able to take your car and fix it. Not on, hope you get it sorted soon!

The spinning key issue is pretty common with these cars .. there a little pin inside the key cylinder that wears out and breaks, thus preventing the key from working as it should .. I ordered a used door handle from EBAY and swapped my key cylinder to that one and problem was solved ... there are a few videos on youtube that show you how to fix it

I have a Fiji Green with the same interior but with an M sport steering wheel. The missing ASC button is Auto Stability Control, if it's faulty then the car goes into limp mode meaning you can only do about 20mph...someone's bypassed it by the looks. Don't give up on the Z3 they are great cars!.. just get that lock sorted, that's down to the garage you got it from

So I bought a 1999 BMW Z3 with a 2.8 Engine that had 92,000 miles on it. I actually bought it for my wife. This car had a lot of problems, but most of them I have sorted out. I kind of call this my hobby car, since I have a lot of work that I have done. I will tick off a few here. Torn leather seats and bad seat belts retractors. An Upholstery shop for the leather and the internet for retractor repairs. I worked on the drive shaft twice and it still was too loose, so I sent it to Turner Motor Sports and they put new ends on the drive shaft which put an end to any problems with the drive shaft. So there was no remote lock on the car, but all the wiring was included in the original build, so bought a used system and installed it. It will unlock at the push of a button, but requires a key to lock it at the drivers side door or the trunk. Mine had electric motor driven locking modules in the drivers door and the trunk that work and have five wires. But the passenger side door only has 3 wires and can only be lock from the other two locks, the whole car can not be locked from the passenger door. Why they didn't go ahead and install the other two wires, I have no idea, I just got down installing new rear wheel bearings because they were noisy. The rear ball bearings are very hard to replace an required hydraulic port-a-power system to extract the old ones and install new ones. It was still noisy and I installed new rear drive shafts and much thicker oil in the rear differential which really quieted it down a lot. The old synthetic oil had the consistency of water. Also I had to send the ABS module out for repair (thank the Lord for the internet) and that turned off the ABS Light. I still have a seat belt warning light, and for now put a little bit of black tape over it. Also I had to get the car painted and I went with BMW 2019 X09 dark metallic green, which is a much better looking paint then the plain dark green that was on it before. Finally I had to replace both the clutch switch and the brake switch to get the cruise control to start working. Also all the engine intake rubber had to be replaced to get rid of the mass air faults. And of course the oxygen sensors had to be replaced to get rid of that fault. So now I have 132,000 miles on the car and I love it. I have to say the engine is very dependable and driving the car is truly like driving a sports car. I was lucky in one respect, no body rust at all. However, BMW just ran the wiring under the carpet and across the floor loose and if some water got on the floor, it drove the electrics crazy. I bought some of that split black wire loom and suspended the wiring just above the floor and I am much more careful about allowing any water to get in the car. All those problems went away. So once a year I have to clean the yellowing off the head lights and tend to other maintenance issues like oil change and tires. Still I love the car and so does my wife. Oh by the way I am retired so I have the time to do all these things. 😊

What you expected obviously was not what you got. But, those problems aren't that bad. Little time to find the stuff in the salvage yard. Few dollars for the button and switches... You're going to need to do that stuff owning an old car to keep it nice. You're going to need to work in it yourself, otherwise it doesn't make much sense, because fixing all the little stuff That's not hard to do via a professional mechanic will cost you more than the car is worth in no time at all. That's just what old car owners do.

  • @vspencer9764

It’s all bolt on panels so the rot shouldn’t be an issue but there’s 3 convertible body styles so make sure you buy the right parts also be careful if you fold the mirrors in as they’re known to snap and are expensive.
It looks like that switch behind the seat was once the electric roof switch and someone has bodged it to turn it into a manual roof and while at it check for water in the boot as it’s normally the third light brake seal.
Also if your changing the badge make sure it’s genuine rather than the cheap Chinese fakes as they only last a matter of weeks and the seat movement will be worn rubbers on the seat kebabs which is a £8 fix and it takes about half a day to do yourself and an easy fix.
What engine has it got as if it’s a smaller 4 pot you really want the M44 which is an absolute gem.
If you buy parts for it sometimes you will be pleasantly surprised to find that main dealer genuine BMW parts are cheaper than secondhand items on eBay.

Same alloys as my 1998 E36 318ti,made in Italy.Boot lid's not too bad although whoever re-sprayed it in the bodyshop should have blended it in with the rear panels. The door card and weather sheild needs to be removed to gain access to the locking mechanism, and can reveal horrors if someones been there before!

I guess it depends what your expectations are for a 20 year old car. There’s going to be issues.
You don’t say what you’ve paid for the car and if it was top dollar or not. Top dollar you’d not expect too many issues but like I’ve said it depends what you’ve paid.
Hopefully you’ll get the main issues sorted and can enjoy the car for the summer.
Nice to see another Z3 still on the road.

you've got some things wrong here..I have exactly the same car but with chrome side gills and bigger wheels. the missing switch in the switch panel is the ASC control button, probably been bypassed, the missing switch at the back is a blank..there isn't one..the roof is not manual ! it's electric. put your foot on the brake pedal turn on the ignition, lift the hood until you hear a click, that the microswitch in the roof and press the far right switch on the dash, that'll kick the motor in that drops the roof. The door lock actuator is missing by the looks... the cracked switch panel is easy to replace, I did the same on mine

I'm in the USA and have the 2000 M Roadster w/134Kmiles (248,168km). The key in your door problem similar to mine, although I do not have the keyless/remote entry. The cylinder in mine just fell to pieces one day when I unlocked it. My other door and trunk/boot though all are interconnected so if I lock either one it will lock/unlock the driver door. A replacement is actually the entire door handle with the lock, which needs to be ordered with the correct serial number is $450 US. I can live without the driver's door working. I too had the "Rocking Seat" problem and found the fix here: ua-cam.com/video/q3lmAyYGZvM/v-deo.html - It actually more than 5 minutes but cost less than $10US. MAYBE the missing button is the ASC switch. Automatic Stability Control. Mine has it, but not sure your model does. Also, it looks like that switch next to the AC (snowflake) is an automatic roof control. Again, I'm not sure your model has that but why would there be such a switch? Future things to worry about; the drooping glovebox. There is a new brace you can but to fix that, just google search, Z3 drooping glovebox. I REALLY hope you get these all sorted out and wish you luck!
