I love that you let the craftspeople tell their own stories, rather than through interview. The music and the soft Scottish accents really bring warmth into this cold and dark part of the season.
That is an amazing view. Reminds me when I went to Oban in 2000. California won't let you work with lead on your homes, so it was interesting to watch the workers do their craft.
I love this project, and the fact you have the most incredible individuals working to restore the beauty of Knockberry Castle makes it even better ... May you all have a Joyous New Year !!!
this has been the best Knockderry video so far. thank you!! I thoroughly enjoy seeing a task filmed from beginning to end with excellent explanations of the work being undertaken. I wish someone would number the videos to give a good viewing order as the work progresses.
Fantastic job. Love listening to them chat I’m originally an Ayrshire girl but been in the south since 1980. It’s addictive watching this transformation of the castle. What skill from everyone
Seriously love seeing everyone working together and showing their amazing talent in their trades. This project is huge but phenomenal and I look forward to watching it all come together and see new life grow from the things you find and create old and new.
Thank you guys so much for this vid! I just forwarded it to my roofers who could learn a thing or two from the craftsmen doing the lead roof flashing repairs on Knockderry. Our 1890 home had terne metal (lead-tin coated steel sheet) flashing that has corroded away to nothing. That product, while common in Pittsburgh in 1890, is not readily available. I've been told the lead sheeting has some lead time but a proper lead flash job should last a lifetime or two provided it's done right. Cheers and thank you guys again (wish I had your contractors!)!
Nice work. That slate roof is so pretty. I'm following way too many GB renovations, because I've started dreaming of living in the countryside somewhere there 😂
Hope other viewer's realize what a skilled artform that is. I'm sure it's challenging there, but what a legacy they are leaving behind. Btw, if you mix condensed milk with butter and melted chocolate, you can end up with quick fudge. Just add a touch of pure vanilla.
Hello from Northern Idaho, USA. I found your channel today and I'm excited to hear your story on how this whole project came about and where you came from. You sound American and I'd love to hear and see your journey before this castle and the whole path renovating the castle. I wish your videos were longer, as I binged watched every video. How many buildings on the property and how many acres are there? Can we get a tour of the outside property?
None of the craftsmen in this video are American, they are all Scottish. The castle was bought by an American couple, when they bought it, the castle was unhabitable and had lay dormant for many years and was in a state of disrepair. The American couple Dave & Chelom Leavitt have invested a lot of money into restoring the castle using local craftsmen.
That leadwork is a thing of beauty. The things artisans do that everyone isn't aware of is incredible. The recipe sounds decadent as well! Great video.
@@rodtaylor9912 Zink for a 20 year roof as it is cheaper. Aluminium for longevity. Some use steel but that is very expensive. Nothings really lasts as long lead does as proven by the castles age and lead work that is still sound. There are buildings in the US that have lead work on the rooves and many stained glass windows with lead. It is just not allowed in new builds.

So glad to hear you're enjoying it! Thank you so much for this kind comment!
Absolute craftsmen, how amazing to have so many talented people all working on restoring Knockderry 😊

Great craftsmanship! Regards, Stephen.

Amazing work by amazing craftsmen!

I watched it in awe! What beauty you have around!❤

What nice work, being so precise! I really appreciate that.

That is quite the roof structure.....well done and very talented craftsmen!!!
Nice work.

This was a wonderful video! Thank you very much. The roofer/lead expert man narrated beautifully. Well done!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The delicacy in the working by hand of the lead is fascinating
Luv the recipe tips from guys welding the roof ❤😂❤😂. Thanks from Texas 😊
Right?! We can't wait to try his recipe out! Let us know if you do too!
I deeply hope these craftsmen have willing pupils to receive this kind of training--may the skills never vanish.
There are lots of apprentices working on the castle and it's been marvelous to watch them learn from our incredible craftsmen and women!
Fantastic work, great that it will be restored and used again.
Brilliant workmanship
Definitely a bespoke area with all those angels. Great work.
Did you ever envisage the huge entertainment value of this restoration, for those of us sitting at home, with rather dull lives?

Used to do this at school when I was little!!
"we will make it as water tight as we can"......great
That roof looks like its own little world up there doing the hard work of keeping the moisture out of the building.
True art crafting all this leadwork 😊
The Castle will soon be safe from the weather. Thank you!

I had only seen lead work done around chimneys before. Very interesting.

great work
Liam the truffles are dynamite!!! So so good!
Dude you are the man just subbed, extremely interesting and educational.
Dedicated craftsmen
Excellent....need a copy of Liam’s recipe
That whole video I was thinking wow that’s an odd section of roof. Then they showed the hidden room and I said OHHHH out loud lol!
Rich or not rich the costs must be staggering. Curious to know how this massive project is funded. Absolutely beautiful work BTW.
The Leavitt family are beneficiaries of the Leavitt Group, an insurance company based in Utah worth $billions
Really interesting to see lead work. I was not familiar with it at all, even if I work with buildings.
Think it would be hard to bid the price to repair the roof with so many different sections!🤯
👍
I know you’re mine cause I chalk the line
Can we buy knockderry truffles?
I want Liam's recipe.
Is it true lead ? We can't do that in the US.
Yes it is, tru craftsman at work. What is used in USA ?

@rodtaylor9912 not sure just know lead is illegal.
Encore une voix synthétique, c'est dégoutant et ça dénature le documentaire !
