Tin Grille Dodge Body Swap Secrets: Make an '81-'93 cab look like a '72-'80

- This time at the Quick Speed Shop I'm going to swap the roof skins to turn a 1981-1993 Dodge truck cab into a 1972-1980 cab. I'm restoring a 1980 Dodge W200 and have a 1988 donor cab. The roof line was redesigned in 1981 so I am going to backdate my donor cab to 1980 by swapping the roof skins. I show how I remove the roof and what is found underneath.
Please like, share, and subscribe. I put out new videos every Wednesday and Sunday.

Happy Little Truck - Bob, your vision of the 1980 roof is perfect... Brown paint will bring it all together. Nice work today!
Thanks 👍
It's a good fit
You are right about the roof , Good thing you got in there to correct the rust problem !
I also put in sound deadening before I glue it back on. That's coming up when I finish the roof.
the new Roof looks way better than I thought !
fits perfect !
It’s looking good
👍
This is exciting to watch. The glue I use heat to release the glue. She is looking good Josh. Thanks for sharing the video
I hope this doesn't release with heat! I've had good luck with the panel bond adhesive I've used.
@Quick Speed Shop we use it in the shop here as it is factory/repair procedure. In the middle like that I'm not sure how it will work since it gets really hard maybe see ripples who knows. If that is what dodge used it will most likely be fine. Plus it will be up high enough not many will see it if it does leave identifying mark
Condensation is Why that Roof rusted in the Front. Me being a Paint and body man for over 21 years and I own 2 of those trucks and 2 Ramchargers. I know them very well. The middle piece in the front that had the rust hole in it is part of the drip rail. I have done body work on those trucks since they were new. The roof and back panel was welded together then put on the truck with the drip rail in the middle in the front
Yeah, the roofs were bare inside. Being full of mouse nest didn't help.
Thanks for sharing, Josh! I would have never suspected that much damage under the roof skin from mouse urine! Good call! I'm still sick about the frame having to be blasted again, what a bummer! 'Looking forward to the video in which you glue that roof panel back on! I've never used the panel-bondo-glue stuff you're talking about...sounds very interesting! Enjoy! Be safe! Bro Harry
The frame going back together will be the next truck video I think on Sunday. I've had good luck with the panel bonding and the manufacturers use it a lot these days on the new cars.
Josh, oh my gosh now I am in suspense to see how the skin finishes up. Anxiously waiting on the next episode.
It turns out good!
@@QuickSpeedShop woohoo!!!
Is that fluid film what you used to brush on the bare metal?
No, Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. I sprayed FF in the roof after I reinstalled it
@@QuickSpeedShop nice great video new to the channel just sub
Thank you 👍
These Dodges tend to rot all along the roof front. Some from seam filler fail, windshield leakage and cab light leaks. I'm looking for a roof right now for my 93..getting harder and harder to find these
Yes. Maybe one of the metal companies needs to make roof skins.
@QuickSpeedShop they should but instead they are discontinuing lots of stuff. Really they only need to make a front section patch panel.
Plug up those mouse highways befor putting on the roof
I'll try to do that.
You can't glue on a roof skin!?
Sure you can! It's like a big model kit!
