When I propagate my string of Pearls (for that matter, any of my plants or succulents,) I usually let the cuttings crust at the cut ends before putting in water or soil to root. Your plants have a greater chance of getting root rot or diseases if you don't let the cut ends dry out before rooting. Also if you use water from the kitchen faucet or any faucet inside the house, you need the water to sit for at least 24 hrs for the chlorine and fluoride in the water to dissipate. Plants have a greater chance to thrive if you wait for 24 hrs. The faucets outside the house usually don't have chlorine or fluoride, so you can use the water directly without waiting 24 hrs or so to use it on your plants. You'll be more successful if you do this. Hope this helps! Happy Planting!! 👍😅
Great video! I know what you mean about the struggle with this plant. Keeping it moist is critical during propagation unlike most other succulents like echeveria, graptopetalum and kalanchoe that don't really require water until roots start to show. Thank you for sharing. This was a great video and very helpful. I started figuring the string of pearls out these past few months but I always love to see what others are doing to improve my methods🤗 Have a wonderful day! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
I have a string of pearls that I got a month or so ago. And I have always been hesitant to grab one but I pulled the trigger and purchased one. I hope that I can keep it alive. Thanks for this video on propagation, when it gets a little bigger I will try this. I live in Idaho and it is cold a dreary, the past few days the sun has been out and has been melting the snow, but the wind is blowing so it makes it cold. Great to see you again, hope your week it good and I will see you again, bye for now.
Holly Hasegawa Nielson it’s a pretty fast grower! You’ll see that as we get into the spring and summer 🤗. thanks for watching Holly!! Have a fantastic week!!
Allana Pritchard hi there!! Always great to connect with fellow seattlelites 🤓!! Being an indoor plant mom is hard, we don’t exactly get the pick of the cool plants in our area without spending a pretty penny and our lack of sunshine lol. Thanks for watching, def try out the string of pearl. It’s all in the watering!
I am always so happy to see a new video from you! Thank you for sharing - I am hesitant to get a String of Pearls because they are toxic to dogs, so I will live vicariously through you :) my 2 sad aluminum plant cuttings are thriving by the way! I actually gave one a trim because it was getting long and now that cutting is in the water too. SO glad I found you when I did!
jenna d that is amazing to hear about your cuttings! I’m surprised they grew so much! Yes, I have fur babies too and try to keep the toxic plants in a gated area of my living room ☹️. Really appreciate you watching!! ❤️🌱
I am from Seattle too and got my first string of pearls this summer. Your video is super helpful. Can you please let me know what winter care did you have to take? Did you use a grow light? Which one ? Any ferilizer you used ?
Nice! Love connecting with fellow Seattleites :)! Thank you so much for watching the video. In the winter, I cut back on watering. Maybe every 2 weeks instead of every 4 or 5 days in the summer. I usually only use fertilizer in the summer since it doesn't grow much in the winter (doesn't need the nutrients and may potentially rot the roots). Also, the fertilizer I use is the alaska fish emulsion stinky fertilizer, so I have to open every window in my house. Mr. Botanibabies asks if I took my shoes off again every time I use that fertilizer :(. Other than that, I don't do anything different in the winter. I have it in my sunniest window, so the only thing I would do differently if it was positioned elsewhere in my house, is bring it closer to the sun in the winter. Hope that helps!
@@Botanibabies Lol about the fertilizer! Thanks for replying! This gives me hope that i can keep it alive. I have seen many failing at this plant snd i got this as a challenge to myself as i just started collecting houseplants and got only the ones that are popular to be easy .your channel is great! Hi Samia!! Thank you so much for the kind words, really appreciate you watching my video. Personally, I never custom mix my soil. I just buy whatever potting soil is available and use it straight out of the bag lol. However, if you are going to custom mix, I recommend adding some perlite to your soil. This will help the plant drain water faster since it really doesn't like to sit in water. I would say 1:4 ratio of perlite to your potting soil. I think the key really is the frequency at which you water it rather than the type of soil it is in. Hope that helps!
I know what you mean! But as long as you let it sit in your sunniest window (direct sunlight), let it dry between waterings (but not too much lol), you will be okay :)!
Yikes, I'm sorry to hear that! I actually found that the ones that I got to root in water is fuller than the ones I just laid on top of the soil. I keep them in pretty much the same area, so they've had the same lighting and watering conditions. I'll have to consider updating this video to include what they look like now :).
Hi Irene! I like to take mine to the sink and use the sprinkler attachment so that it can allow the water to drain while fully saturating the soil. Here's an updated video where I show you and explain why its the best method for me ua-cam.com/video/r2686cnPPzg/v-deo.html
Botanibabies ! First I moved it from the nursery pot to a plastic pot (big mistake) I just recently moved it into a terra-cotta pot & wrapped it all up. Basically starting over. Hopefully it helps lol 🥴

OMG finally someone in the Seattle area giving tips - If you can grow it I think I will actually buy one
Yes! they key is in the watering. I am confident you will be able to successfully grow this plant :)
Could you give an update regarding this replanted cuttings? Great video.
Hi Sandra! I made an update here, hope that helps! ua-cam.com/video/r2686cnPPzg/v-deo.html

Hi thanks for this video it has so many brilliant tips! I’ve got one question please! What is the type of soil mix you’ve used?

This is one of my wishlist plants but I’m scared to kill it 😂

I’m on my second one... trying to keep it alive that’s why I’m watching this video...I think I might over watered it...😷
When does it grow more foliage? In winters or summers???
Hi Jomol, it would grow more in the summer when there is more sunlight. Hope that helps :)
@@Botanibabies Thanks. Lemme see.
Hi. Every time u water them as u first time did? I also propagating this but i afraid to water them like u . What to do?
I recommend watering using the sink spray as it really saturates the soil, but feel free to try out whatever method works best for you :)
I can’t keep any string of anything alive!!! So frustrating
Yikes, so sorry to hear that Lena :(! I think one of the most common mistakes is over watering. Good luck, hope things turn around for your plants :(
I just bought a string of tears , hopefully I don’t kill her. .
Wishing you good luck with your new plant baby 🪴❤️🤞🏽
how did the pearls that were submerged in water not rot? One of mine fell in a little bit and it rotted the stem and pearl. :(

How do you water your string of pearl? Is it bottom watering, thanks.

i am up for the test and trying
Good luck!!! :)
@@Botanibabies Thank you so much! it has worked so well and they have grown quit a bit in two weeks!
We love yr video but my sting of pearl why is deing
Do we have to. Keep in out to get sunlingt
Do you suggest using cactus soil for the sting of pearls?
Yes :), cactus soil has more perlite in it, so it will help to drain the water faster (that is if you have it in a container with drainage holes)
Per favore traduzione in italiano grazie
Yeah mine is dying lol
Oh no! Sorry to hear that :(. Is it in a well draining container?
