My biggest problem is the lack of writers credited in app. I shouldn't have to search the game credits on Moby games or in the actual game to find who wrote the song I'm listening to in app. It makes it harder to find music I might not have been interested in, and it's just not cool.
That’s the same thing I said on NintendoLife’s video-it’s so odd. As someone who obsesses over composer credits, it sucks that it’s absent in the app; every composer _deserves_ to be credited for their amazing work. Also, as much as I like Splatoon crediting the in-universe bands, I’d love a setting or toggle to show either the band or the real-life composer, or both. By the way, I recommend VGMdb when it comes to credits for official soundtrack releases. They have screenshots of the physical soundtrack CDs, track lists in English and Japanese (if applicable), and even individual performers, be it lead singers or instrumentalists. If _they_ don’t list the credits, the physical release most likely doesn’t credit a composer per track (like _Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes_ or _Animal Crossing New Leaf,_ for instance). MobyGames is great for everything else, though.
Like Disney, they hide the developers and artists behind the projects they publish and steal all the credit to the company itself. Gotta preservr that ~Nintendo Magic~
That’s your _biggest_ problem? I don’t disregard it as a problem but there’s plenty of other issues with this from a user perspective that are going overlooked.
Lack of composer credits is a pretty big mark against the app. I’d like to think that it’s just an oversight and coming soon but it follows a pattern Nintendo’s been on lately of omitting credits on their legacy library whenever they can.
It is absolutely not an oversight lol they don't even want you to know if they got a support studio for help on a first-party game these days and almost got away with not even crediting any of the original Retro staff on Metroid Prime Remastered. It's like taking all the credit for the group dissertation that everyone else carried

@@icedcapplord710true but what if the original studio doesn’t exist or even around anymore then what are the developers so post to do about crediting them and in this case I feel like Nintendo knows what to do so they don’t list them in the staff credits which is a shame
I've been constantly wondering how the smash ultimate soundtrack on this would work ever since they released this thing, they'd likely omit all "original" tracks that were ripped direct from other games cuz many are redundant since they'd also be in their own game's osts, but that also removes many 3rd party tracks that would never come to the music app in the first place? Also 3rd parties in general, would they really manage to license them for use in their own music app, or would they end up also oddly omitted? Honestly I'm betting they're going to skip smash soundtracks in this app altogether to avoid these problems, which is unfortunate cuz there's so many good smash-original tracks, as well as fully Nintendo-themed remixes that deserve to be included!!
I think they can't figure how to handle it for 3rd parties. The OST CDs for Smash 4 lack several songs too but especially those for MegaMan and Sonic are missing.
@@MegaManNeo Nintendo seems to own some of the arrangement rights for 3rd party tracks. For example, they have the arrangement copyright for the Mega Man remixes, but not for the Final Fantasy remixes. I'm sure they'd still need permission from the composition copyright holders anyway, but maybe some of the third party remixes could be included. I think the only 3rd party representation on the Smash 4 Smashing Soundtrack CD was PAC-MAN, but that was probably easier since Bandai Namco co-developed Smash 4.
I just wish we could get stuff outside of just whats available via a gamerip to get audio tracks from the games directly on my own such as with stuff specifically only posted on UA-cam by Nintendo for Splatoon 3 with the song Three Wishes.
So a few things I noticed as I as spreeing away picking songs 1. I think New Horizons song range is in 400 which holy crap 2. Even if the music loop is too short for me to add it to my favorites, the Wii menu music not having it's intro thing is a pretty big smh 3. Maybe it's just me combining the two games a bit but Mario Galaxy 1 only having 81 songs feels so wrong to me 4. The person who was in charge of taking screenshots for FE7 took Serra to endgame which I find based
Makes sense NH is rocking around 400 songs, considering like 15-ish% of that is just each hourly theme and their rain and snow variations, and then there's 50% of it going to K.K.'s songs, both live and radio versions I imagine when the other, previous Animal Crossing entries are added, they'll also be having a couple hundred songs each
The main trilogy games are on iTunes at least. I think Spotify as well? Those, all Pokemon games gen 7 and earlier, and *some* of Mario Odyssey are the only Nintendo games I know of with official releases on iTunes
@@MonkeysxMoooh dang, that’s sick that it’s on itunes. unfortunately not on spotify though except the credits song for xenoblade 1 posted by the singer, but only on japanese spotify
I hope Nintendo commits to this music app and adds content to it on a regular basis instead of simply dripfeeding a soundtrack now and then like they do with classic games on NSO.
One strange thing that I noticed was that the Fire Temple theme from OoT is just a short loop of the beginning of the track. Maybe it’s because of the original vocal sample, but they could have just used the version from later releases instead.
@@totalradlad The Mario 64 soundtrack is gonna be great because they basically drowned the entire thing with reverb and the strings take longer to release and stuff, sounds pretty cursed and nothing like in-game :V
The only things I dislike is that there’s not much detail on the music. It should probably have the credits for the people who played and composed it, where it plays, what game it’s from, and probably a better image for the song instead of a screenshot.
I'm afraid it's too much effort:/ I'd like backstories to each soundtracks, like koji kondo writing the zelda main theme in that one night before deadline
Gotta give the award of best Wii Channel music to Doodle from the Photo channel. That thing is a bop and when I saw it in the app I almost fainted, it's such an obscure song and to see any mention of it by Nintendo is magical. Really hoping we get all the Streetpass music soon.
For having a "small" library as expected, i think it's pretty great, if small means +1000 songs. It's worth for being just an "add-on" for the NSO membership. Also, i have no doubts Nintendo keeps testing the waters for the next console, this, the online thing that happened a few days ago. I wouldn't be surprised if this service makes into the new console
I beleive Nintendo has stated numerous times in their quarterly earnings reports that they want NSO to carry through the Switch, the Switch 2, and into the future beyond.
Yeah it's a bit basic but it is basically a free extra. I hope they build it up. I wouldn't even mind paying for expansions as long as the price is good. Like "ALL of Xenoblade Chronicles Music for $5" or something like that.
This is the most Nintendo thing to do lol release a music app specifically for them. I wish they'd be better about credits but its a cool idea at least. People saying to put it YT or Spotify assume everyone has the non ad tier, this is just another bonus perk for NSO. I have a ton of Nintendo OSTs but I can see myself using this out of convenience.
Aside from the lack of composers, heres what ive noticed: 1.)We dont have celestial from Ed Sheeran in the pokemon Scarlet and Violet OST. Itll be interesting to see if thsts something they add. 2.) The fire temple from OoT is just the beginning part. I know this song was the topic of some controversy due to sampling back in the day so itll be interesting to see if they "censor" other songs. Also just wanna note 4 soundtracks im interested in seeing are 3ds system music, Xenoblade Chronicles series, Fire emblem 3 houses, and Smash bros. As for smash i wonder how theyll even do smash because theres so many ways they can go about it. They could do only do smash original music or include remixes, or include the non remixed stuff too, and then of course theres 3rd party music in there too, which is another can of worms.
I think the controversy around Nintendo not announcing development studios pre-launch is much ado about nothing (they're not hiding credits, guys). BUT I do think the lack of composer credits is poor form. This really should have been there from day 1.
@ToonGohan Oh no. That's not good. Nintendo really needs to stop doing that. The people, most likely fans of Nintendo, that probably love Nintendo, are doing the work for Nintendo when they upload their music to UA-cam. Music that people would love to listen to outside of the games they came from, on their phones, whether it be, for example, listening to music while doing homework, studying, relaxation, etc. If Nintendo doesn't want anyone to upload their songs for whatever reason, besides their personal "music app" they themselves can upload music here on UA-cam. They can have their own personal UA-cam music channel. They can call it: "The Nintendo Music Channel" Created by Nintendo, for their fans, and Nintendo can upload as many songs as they want, whenever they want. This will stop others from uploading here and there will be no more need for other channels that upload Nintendo music.
@LuigiMaster4 at least? this is their excuse to further persecute the community! this is not a good thing for anybody they won't give you all the tracks you're looking for, there won't be any community interaction with the music or creative mixing and visuals like youtube uploads can. there's no recommended like youtube, or even a share button to link your friends to specific tracks!
@@TicTacToeCraft you're right about that feature, but I still don't think this walled garden is good. even if they added more like a comments area (which I'd be very surprised by) it would be very regulated. and energy away from the less controlled spaces.
I have a feeling they’ll be more free to drop more stuff at a time. The one case about the NSO, is that every game has to have its code touched and or adjusted, and then go through the entire testing process, in order to make sure it works and works with the added online component. Not so with Music. That is more of an arrange, get cover art, drop in, and add the search tags. No coding or adjustments needed.
I like to think that nintendo is just procrastinating at this point and is releasing all of these random things because they don't want to get the switch 2 ready
They're just buying all the time they can, so they can keep working on the next console, hence this, Xenoblade Chronicles X, the remasters that keep coming in the next year. Personally i'm okay with that, if we're getting good things. IMO, this, somehow, is just a confirmation that the next console will definitely be releasing in late 2025 or in the Q1 2026
I don't know, it seems like they want an integrated system for when the Switch 2 releases where everything flows together. Waiting for the Nintendo GPS system next 🤔
5 general wishes for the app outside of games to add: 1. Totally agree that composer credits should be added. We have splatoon playlists for the in-game music artists, which in its own way is still cool. But no mention of the irl creators?! Not cool. 2. The landscape mode for the app is terribly zoomed in and should be improved 3. Options to change music speed. Especially when games such as Mario Galaxy does that in-game for boss fights, yet the app can’t recreate those 4. Personal wish is adding a way to see song lyrics for vocal tracks. Give us the most accessible way possible to sing-a-long to Jump Up Superstar (and hopefully someday Lifelight from Smash Ultimate🙏🏻) 5. The options to extend for an hour is nice, but still restricted to 4 options? Perhaps some day we can get the option to choose any number of minutes or hours that we want with no limits
Frequency matters less than volume to me. I’m ok with updates once a month if they drop as many as they did at launch if not more. With the games available on NSO and things like how Fire Emblem GBA is labeled and both versions of the original Metroid, I can see this app being very strong very quickly.
The Nintendo music app has a solid foundation, hopefully they update it more than the NSO app. They need upload deep cut albums into the service to really justify its addition. For example: their current and delisted mobile games. The OST’s for Fire Emblem Heroes and especially Dragalia Lost deserve much more recognition.
I'm definitely happy about this for sure! But like many others are saying they must credit the composers, a lot of Nintendo's music is just so catchy and memorable and I really wish they would do more to honor the people behind it all. Not only should they credit them but some commemorative video interviewing the composers about how the music came about would also be fantastic!
Probably because they want privacy...In Japan it is pretty common that they recognize the good job the composers have made up but they also want to respect their privacy...and even more because sometimes there are fans that also are crazy (Just not extreme as The Idol Industry where the fans sometimes can be psychopaths)
@@anthonygerardotorresgonzal6269 Thing is a lot of the featured albums like Splatoon 3, Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8, Mario Odyssey etc., even Tomodachi Collection do have physical OST releases. From what I've seen they just copied the tracklists and possibly the mastered tracks over for the service. Said OST releases generally do have full composer credits, even track by track performer credits in the case of Mario Kart 8. This information is in theory publicly available, so I don't see why they would omit it now. Unless there are some issues with people who have since left Nintendo and went freelance, like Ryo Nagamatsu (worked on, among other things, Splatoon 3, Mario Kart 8 & Wii, A Link Between Worlds). But I don't get why they wouldn't be credited like anyone else.
@@anthonygerardotorresgonzal6269 Exactly, I just asked Tomoya Tomita today on his UA-cam channel about his thoughts on the Nintendo Music App, but I had the decency to tell him that I respect his privacy and that he doesn’t have to answer any Nintendo-related questions if he doesn't want to (he doesn’t work for Nintendo anymore anyway).
@@anthonygerardotorresgonzal6269 Still, there are some Western composers who work(ed) at Nintendo, like Grant Kirkhope, David Wise and James Phillipsen, and I'm sure they'd rather want to be credited for their work. Kirkhope even publicly expressed his disappointment about not being credited in the Mario movie.
I’m hoping we get all the Xenoblade Chronicles games on this app, since those OSTs are straight up fire. Plus it could also help boost even more interest in a niche series like Xenoblade. But also more Pokémon down the line is a no brainer. If gen 4 and 5 get added on this app, it is so over.
I think this app is really great, even with the small selection right now. I already pay for Switch Online, so being able to listen to Nintendo Music wherever I go is perfect. Speaking of the small selection, I understand why people are a bit unhappy with that, but to be fair quite a few of the albums on here have 100+ songs
Saw a tweet from a guy based in Japan saying how the lack of composer credits (something not exclusive to Nintendo!) is part of a wider company culture across the company. Even if they're allowed to have a public persona beyond the workplace, a lot just don't want to.
I am glad that Nintendo finally decided to legalize the music from their games. Now then, NINTENDOOOO!!!! GIVE THE SPLATOON IDOLS ALL THEIR SONGS!!! AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!!!!!!
The reason it is tied to Nintendo Switch Online is so you continue to have reasons to keep NSO. You could stop playing Switch for months on end, but if you like this app and want to keep the music, maybe you're more compelled to keep paying for the NSO service.
As a fellow hardcore music enthusiast, I'm enjoying it so far. A bit baffled at the initial selections but hopeful they'll add new tracks faster than NSO games. My wishlist is a mile long, but SMB3, Pokemon Re/Blue/Gold/Silver, and FZero GX top the list right now.
I suspect Nintendo plans to give the songs out in batches, and I suspect the batch size may vary. And really, Nintendo doing things atypically is kind of typical of Nintendo, which kinda does make sense since they started as a toy company (compared to more "typical" devs that started with electronics).
Some music require to get some rights like the music with lyrics sometimes so that might be the reason why some titles wouldn't be there. The same problem usually happens with Final Fantasy music where even Square Enix themselves struggle to get the rights for their songs.
My early experiences with VGM was using the built in music catalogues in PS1 Squaresoft rereleases (Final Fantasy Chronicles Chrono Trigger and both games in Anthology, especially), which generally meant unlocking the songs by playing the game, then running it from the system menu in the game on my TV. I didn't own either collection, I borrowed them from friends, so I didn't get the music CD's if they were included (which I'm pretty sure it was in Anthology at least). Before that, if I liked the music on a game I would have to play to or from that point in the game and just pause it (which I think I did with Donkey Kong Country a few times, and I definitely let LoZ: ALttP run the music a few times, too). I found out about the app the night before last, so Oct. 30. I was very disappointed that neither Luigi's Mansion nor a Halloween playlist were already available. I managed to make one for myself, but it was only 16 tracks long because I included some Bowser themes and a couple tracks from Metroid. Also, from the selection of games to start, I was a bit disappointed in the lack of albums outside of Switch titles, but especially for NES/Famicom and SNES/Super Famicom. I really wanted some early Zelda, though I did appreciate (and listen to the entirety of) DKC first. Since Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are already on it, I'm also hopeful that some older Pokémon titles will be added later, especially Red/Blue/Yellow and Diamond/Pearl. Of what is already available, DKC is my favorite, followed by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I haven't explored the Wii album much except to play Wii Shop Channel, so I'm looking forward to getting to the rest of it later.
People who don't understand "music spoilers" have never had the experience of getting a plot twist ruined by a recognisable leitmotif in a track you haven't heard yet.
Fun Fact: The app seems to only be optimized for mobile users, as in when using it on a tablet, the display only has Portrait proportions regardless of the devices physical orientation, and is SEVERELY letter-boxed. … okay, so maybe it’s not a “fun” fact, but it sure is a fact. As for what OSTs I’m keeping an ear out for, the GameCube Pokémon games, Colosseum & Gale of Darkness, are some of my favorite soundtracks from the system or series. In the event this proves to be one of those weird times when GameFreak’s not interested in playing ball, I’d love to see some more Star Fox, SNES original and Assault in particular, and God Shattering Star alone makes Three Houses a top priority.
The app is great, but it is baffling they didn't also release this on the Switch. You know, their own proprietary portable console that also easily hooks up to TV? Why is this not on the eShop, again?
@@Glitchyy07 I would definitely use it to play it on my TV with my speaker system when I am home. (I know you can hook your phone to TV too, just far easier to do it with the Switch)
WHY would Nintendo announce the Switch successor a couple of months before Christmas? That would completely torpedo their holiday sales of Switch hardware. It would be INCREDIBLY stupid.
I said a while ago as I popped in Phendana Drifts for a sec “I wonder if Ash immediately downloaded this” and in I go on UA-cam to see an 18 minute video fresh off the oven
I've seen a few complaints, yet even with 23 albums featuring roughly a thousand songs *(edit: make that roughly 2,400 songs - not a joke)* is not an easy task. Keep in mind that tracking through even the older OST and especially placing all of these songs in is no simple task. Like adding released music to our daily listening playlists, this process takes plenty of time. It's better than nothing and especially better late than never. As far as composers and writers goes, we can just view the credits of certain video games. The fact that they are doing this, even with no credited sources (potentially yet), is an homage of appreciation towards their musical contributors; themselves; and us, their fans.
But what if I don’t want to view the credits of the games or look them up? I want to know which composers are behind the OSTs, even down to the individual tracks if possible, and I want to have playlists of certain artists.
@@konjus First of all, I do not drink. It is not worth the mental depression. Second, not everyone is a fanatic. It is not like it is a YT video that will be taken down due to copyright. To be fair, they have other projects to work on -- numerous of which much longer than assembling and releasing music. Patience.
@@TicTacToeCraft Fair, but on a technicality, whether it'd be on the app (not yet at the moment) or elsewhere, it does not exactly matter, even if elsewhere takes longer. For example, for a quicker method, I can do a WWW co-pilot web search that asks "who composed the music for Super Mario Galaxy?" - of course, Koji Kondo (& Mahito Yokota). Insert playlist - "Koji Kondo Best Hits." The quicker option may not (yet) be there, and I do prefer the quicker option as well, yet it is not like it is impossible. Nintendo may be Nintendo, yet at least they have had even the slightest dignity beforehand.
Pretty conflicted here. It’s a cool idea and a huge step for them… BUT the idea of them drip feeding us tracks SUUUUUCKS. I’m also scared they’re gonna go after more game music channels here on YT now… I’m “backing up” some of my current playlists just in case (perfectly legal I assure you😉). Also as a smaller complaint: they don’t list the composers. That sucks
I bet that Nintendo will make a Nintendo video streaming service when they have a large enough amount of movies and shows to launch it. I would love Nintendo to make more small niche productions like a fire emblem anime or pikmin or splatoon anime, i think if Nintendo bought an animation and video studios for that they could do something cool there.

Anyone notice the Fire Temple from Ocarina of time is super short and not even able to loop? We all know about the original music controversy but it doesnt even have the redone choral sample from the later cartridges/3ds version, very strange lol.

I just wish we could get stuff outside of just whats available via a gamerip to get audio tracks from the games directly on my own such as with stuff specifically only posted on UA-cam by Nintendo for Splatoon 3 with the song Three Wishes.
So a few things I noticed as I as spreeing away picking songs
1. I think New Horizons song range is in 400 which holy crap
2. Even if the music loop is too short for me to add it to my favorites, the Wii menu music not having it's intro thing is a pretty big smh
3. Maybe it's just me combining the two games a bit but Mario Galaxy 1 only having 81 songs feels so wrong to me
4. The person who was in charge of taking screenshots for FE7 took Serra to endgame which I find based
the Wii menu startup bit is its own track, which is neat, but it doesn't flow super smoothly into the core menu loop itself, which is unfortunate
go listen to kapp’n’s songs
Makes sense NH is rocking around 400 songs, considering like 15-ish% of that is just each hourly theme and their rain and snow variations, and then there's 50% of it going to K.K.'s songs, both live and radio versions
I imagine when the other, previous Animal Crossing entries are added, they'll also be having a couple hundred songs each
Based Serra enjoyer
@@WhimsicottFanaticNew Horizons has a ton of music because it’s a pretty big game, considering the amount of content in it.
I need the xenoblade soundtrack to be on this app, all 4 games
When that happens i will actually use the app

You already know the answer.
this is just an excuse to further persecute the community in regards to nintendo sounds like they have with game emulation
5:37 Thanks, pal. No harm done.
Nintendo is doing their direct over the course of two weeks. Right at the end, there’ll be the “just one more thing” moment
They always do that
Nintendo is the king of shadow drops.
One strange thing that I noticed was that the Fire Temple theme from OoT is just a short loop of the beginning of the track. Maybe it’s because of the original vocal sample, but they could have just used the version from later releases instead.
i noticed it too, it’s just the drum part for 40 seconds i wanted to hear the cool version 😭
It's sad they probably won't ever add the uncensored version. Maybe we can if we spam feedback enough thougg
That's exactly how the original soundtrack CD released back in 1998 was, too. What's on the music app is just a re-release of that.
@@Meatball132 That’s strange.
@@totalradlad The Mario 64 soundtrack is gonna be great because they basically drowned the entire thing with reverb and the strings take longer to release and stuff, sounds pretty cursed and nothing like in-game :V
Splatoon 3’s OST only covers the first year of content, but the second year is supposed to be covered in an upcoming album dropping in December.
The only things I dislike is that there’s not much detail on the music. It should probably have the credits for the people who played and composed it, where it plays, what game it’s from, and probably a better image for the song instead of a screenshot.
Yes, crediting the composers is something that should NOT be omitted.
I'm afraid it's too much effort:/ I'd like backstories to each soundtracks, like koji kondo writing the zelda main theme in that one night before deadline
Literally any paper mario or Mario and Luigi soundtrack would be awesome
PLEASE, I CANT wait for them to add the mario rpg soundtracks
Super Mario RPG and Mario + Rabbids would be nice additions as well. We need Mario RPG music
Gotta give the award of best Wii Channel music to Doodle from the Photo channel. That thing is a bop and when I saw it in the app I almost fainted, it's such an obscure song and to see any mention of it by Nintendo is magical.
Really hoping we get all the Streetpass music soon.
Listening to it now, why does it sound like you’re sneaking around for doodling? Not complaining in the slightest, it’s genius
I love how they included the Wii system music, hoping they do the same for the DSi. That had some incredibly nostalgic tracks.
It would be great to have this app integrated into the next console's operative system!
Aside from the lack of composers, heres what ive noticed:
1.)We dont have celestial from Ed Sheeran in the pokemon Scarlet and Violet OST.
They're literally the only game publisher hiding instead of advertising which studio created a game.
That is not a controversy. Like people acting more about the people that make a game than the game itself. You are doing too much.
@@Kniffel101 if Nintendo were interested in hiding developer credits, they probably would discontinue their in-depth "Ask The Developer" interviews
I’ve been noticing a lot of Nintendo music getting taken down again recently
They can call it:
"The Nintendo Music Channel"
Created by Nintendo, for their fans, and Nintendo can upload as many songs as they want, whenever they want. This will stop others from uploading here and there will be no more need for other channels that upload Nintendo music.
@LuigiMaster4
at least? this is their excuse to further persecute the community!
this is not a good thing for anybody
they won't give you all the tracks you're looking for, there won't be any community interaction with the music or creative mixing and visuals like youtube uploads can.
there's no recommended like youtube, or even a share button to link your friends to specific tracks!
@@sockrabbtt It definitely won't ever serve as a replacement of Nintendo music on UA-cam.

you're right about that feature, but I still don't think this walled garden is good.
even if they added more like a comments area (which I'd be very surprised by) it would be very regulated.
and energy away from the less controlled spaces.
The way they did Wii console music makes me hope they'll eventually do the same for DS/3DS family console music. Photos slideshow music, anyone?
I personally believe that they are delaying until 2026 in hopes that the global and US economies improve.
Maybe we’ll finally get wind waker or straight up game cube games announced for switch tomorrow 😂
hey, at least they got a few things to mention during the investors meeting 😂
64 update on monday, xenoblade x on tuesday, and this today.... I wonder if we are getting something tomorrow
Hey did you expose your father by accident in the footage? Stray message & PFP at 5:40
5 general wishes for the app outside of games to add:
1. Totally agree that composer credits should be added. We have splatoon playlists for the in-game music artists, which in its own way is still cool. But no mention of the irl creators?! Not cool.
2. The landscape mode for the app is terribly zoomed in and should be improved
3. Options to change music speed. Especially when games such as Mario Galaxy does that in-game for boss fights, yet the app can’t recreate those
4. Personal wish is adding a way to see song lyrics for vocal tracks. Give us the most accessible way possible to sing-a-long to Jump Up Superstar (and hopefully someday Lifelight from Smash Ultimate🙏🏻)
5. The options to extend for an hour is nice, but still restricted to 4 options? Perhaps some day we can get the option to choose any number of minutes or hours that we want with no limits
The Tomodachi Collection OST being featured is just so cruel
LIKEEEE
IKR???
Frequency matters less than volume to me. I’m ok with updates once a month if they drop as many as they did at launch if not more. With the games available on NSO and things like how Fire Emblem GBA is labeled and both versions of the original Metroid, I can see this app being very strong very quickly.
The only thing making me hesitant on getting the app is that not every track from every game will be available.
The App Itself Is Free So Long As You Have NSO, And IMO It's Better Then Nothing
@@mjb20077yep, there’s no harm in having it if you have NSO
I genuinely love this. A way to listen to official music with my phone locked without downloading alot of music
I love that Cappy got his own playlist! Finally the little guy gets some love! Now please put him in more games, Nintendo! 😭
I've ALWAYS wanted EXACTLY THIS. I LOVE Nintendo OST. ALWAYS WANTED THIS Please add Twilight Princess soon 🥰

When they add the Twilight Princess soundtrack I will literally play nothing else but the end credit theme
@@JustKweku One of the best Zelda end credits theme.

@@anthonygerardotorresgonzal6269 solid point I never thought about that
@@anthonygerardotorresgonzal6269 Thing is a lot of the featured albums like Splatoon 3, Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8, Mario Odyssey etc., even Tomodachi Collection do have physical OST releases.
It’s a great launch collection. If only widgets are included for homescreen control, with ability to set selected music as alarm.
I hope they add the Sushi Striker OST so that more people learn it's actually god-tier.
Now add Nintendo Voice Acting App & Video Game Cutscene/Movie App.
I love this, but Nintendo better not drip feed this like they’ve done to NSO games. New OSTs every week would be great
I personally prefer the soundtracks from Sega and Capcom games, but I just hope this doesn't become a new trend that all video game companies follow
Saw a tweet from a guy based in Japan saying how the lack of composer credits (something not exclusive to Nintendo!) is part of a wider company culture across the company. Even if they're allowed to have a public persona beyond the workplace, a lot just don't want to.
Smash bros credits their composers (mostly)
Gang gang
I am glad that Nintendo finally decided to legalize the music from their games.
Now then,
NINTENDOOOO!!!!
GIVE THE SPLATOON IDOLS ALL THEIR SONGS!!!
AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!!!!!!
To answer the question at the end, the soundtracks I most want to see be added are definitely the Xenoblade Chronicles soundtracks.
Looks like they just added Mario wonder to the music app.
I can't wait for the GameCube to get more representation. Wind Waker, Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin 1, Double Dash...
The reason it is tied to Nintendo Switch Online is so you continue to have reasons to keep NSO. You could stop playing Switch for months on end, but if you like this app and want to keep the music, maybe you're more compelled to keep paying for the NSO service.
Best Wii Channel music? News Channel: Checking the News - Daytime
F-Zero X as well, and maybe Link to the Past
I suspect Nintendo plans to give the songs out in batches, and I suspect the batch size may vary.
And really, Nintendo doing things atypically is kind of typical of Nintendo, which kinda does make sense since they started as a toy company (compared to more "typical" devs that started with electronics).
Please dont let the drops take forever
Some music require to get some rights like the music with lyrics sometimes so that might be the reason why some titles wouldn't be there. The same problem usually happens with Final Fantasy music where even Square Enix themselves struggle to get the rights for their songs.
I would love if the ALTTP and ALBW soundtracks come over.
I love the idea of what they're doing. I downloaded it immediately and I'm very excited to see how often more tracks get added
They HAVE to launch all of this cause people will not talk about any of it once they officially announce the switch 2
The app is great, but it is baffling they didn't also release this on the Switch. You know, their own proprietary portable console that also easily hooks up to TV? Why is this not on the eShop, again?
probably because they realized nobody walks around with their switch to listen to music, and that phones would be better suited for it
@Glitchyy07 So do both?
@@chaoticcranium I guess it’d be sort of cool, but I don’t see people using it as an app on the switch instead of playing games
@@Glitchyy07 I would definitely use it to play it on my TV with my speaker system when I am home.

@ oh I didn’t even consider speaker systems lol my bad, yeah that makes a ton more sense
And the unsurprising surprise is, that there is (currently) absolutely zero Wii U game soundtracks listed on the service, as well as Virtual Boy.
It took them HOW LONG TO FINALLY DO THIS!? HOW MUCH BEGGING!?!?
You know…despite everything weird/bad Nintendo does it truly is special when they announce anything! This is something I thought would NEVER happen 🎉
I hope they add music from Emio the smiling man. I love the main theme
WHY would Nintendo announce the Switch successor a couple of months before Christmas? That would completely torpedo their holiday sales of Switch hardware. It would be INCREDIBLY stupid.
Hopefully they get around to adding the SM64 and Sunshine Soundtracks soon to since they can just dump on 3D All Stars
I said a while ago as I popped in Phendana Drifts for a sec “I wonder if Ash immediately downloaded this” and in I go on UA-cam to see an 18 minute video fresh off the oven
I get skipping Virtual Boy, but I'm surprised that there's not even a single 3DS or Wii U game at launch!
its good
give it a minute
I've seen a few complaints, yet even with 23 albums featuring roughly a thousand songs *(edit: make that roughly 2,400 songs - not a joke)* is not an easy task. Keep in mind that tracking through even the older OST and especially placing all of these songs in is no simple task. Like adding released music to our daily listening playlists, this process takes plenty of time. It's better than nothing and especially better late than never. As far as composers and writers goes, we can just view the credits of certain video games. The fact that they are doing this, even with no credited sources (potentially yet), is an homage of appreciation towards their musical contributors; themselves; and us, their fans.
take a shot whenever a Nintendo apologist says "it's better than nothing" and you'll blackout in under 60 seconds
It is their product; they can do literally whatever they wish with them. That is not being an apologist.
That sucks
That's honestly not a smaller complaint.
Credit your artist properly, Nintendo. For fucks sake!
I hope they add star fox adventure. Thorntail hollow is one of my all time fave pieces of video game music. Happy DK Country is there though.

7:46 Y'all probably have already done it, but it might be advisable to back up your videos.
14:45 I had the Nintendo Power cassette tape “Original Soundtrack Greatest Hits” with Mario 64, Wave Race 64 and Blast Corps! Ahh memories
It also had some Star Fox 64 and Killer Instinct but they oddly didn’t mention that on the cover, even though Wave Race only had one song!
I've certainly witnessed naysayers who won't budge on a new idea. But I really do think this can work if developed with care!
I love the app so far, But where is Xenoblade music? Splatoon 1 or 2? Gen 3,4 and 5 pokemon?
Anyone notice the Fire Temple from Ocarina of time is super short and not even able to loop? We all know about the original music controversy but it doesnt even have the redone choral sample from the later cartridges/3ds version, very strange lol.
It’s just crazy to me that they launched the app with Tomodatchi Collection music but not Super Mario 64 music
I love Nintendo games music. Mario Party, Super Mario, Donkey Kong 64, etc.. Have lived rent free in my head since childhood 😅😅
Exciting to me and honestly as like Ash I collect Video game music and listen to it throughout each week so this is right up my alley. And I hear the concerns but good to be thankful we have this nowadays and can access this music easier than years ago like they said in the video. 👍
Why there is no DK Tropical Freeze? Any copyright issue?
Can't imagine why. Will probably be added eventually. Phenomenal OST, so it absolutely deserves to.
@laggalot1012 do you think that Nintendo owns 100% of that OST? David Wise collaborated to most of the OST through an independent LTD
@@banjobro64 Nope, admittedly, I haven't the first clue how that kind of copyright typically works. But I'm also not sure how that situation compares to all the other OST's presently represented
Still, assuming copyright issues just because it's not there at the apps launch, when the number of games represented is comparatively tiny to begin with, does seem like a bit of a leap to me.
@@laggalot1012 yes sure, I hope so. But still all the latest instalments of the main series are present, except DKTF (but they placed DKC2 instead). Quite weird. Maybe is not a ownership issue but some secondary clauses (e.g.: commercial copyright is owned by Nintendo but DW has the right to claim to be mentioned as the author, since it is an external collaboration). Just making hypothesis
I mean, there's only 23 games so far, so DKCTF missing shouldn't be a surprise
I sure am hopeful for the future of this app.
I’d love to get the music from Tropical Freeze and the Xenoblade series, as well as a Smash Bros. compilation of arrangements (for the songs they own the rights of course)

ok the Spoiler toggle is a neat touch... everything else, including their distaste for crediting, makes me think this should have been a Spotify/YT music addition
Song extensions are also a neat addition for those who want to loop a track without it fading out and restarting with the intro everytime it loops two times.
I love it. I just want more.

All the boss music will make great music for haunted houses today!
Would love to have the smash bros soundtracks in here with the remixed songs from other games (only nintendo IP's obviously), and if possible any games that aren't specifically Nintendo IP's but have history with their consoles, i.e. Banjo
I have doubt they will do it, but it would be awesome if they added the Soundtrack to Metroid Prime 2: Echoes for the game 20th anniversary on the 15th of November.
Also seem with the exception of Wii Channels , Tomodachi Collection and Nintendogs, all the released sountrack are from game playable on Switch. So this make me wonder if The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker being in the upcoming music, is a subtle hint that the game we also coming to Switch next year.
But why is it only the GameCube version why not the Wii U version I saw in the video with the upcoming music coming to this app that windwaker is coming but it’s only the GameCube version hope I’m wrong and they release both the GameCube version and the Hd windwaker version that was on the Wii U
Take this with a grain of salt, as it just a guess, and i ain´t an audiophile so could be wrong,@@outright4697 I guess is because they are going to build it off from the official released soundtrack from back in 2003 , which i guess was higher quality instrument than the midi that the GameCube could play. Likely the Wii U release was built of those higher quality instrument, and as don´t add new track, there would not be much of a difference i guest
Also seem for Breath of the Wild they used the official Soundtrack as the basic for ordering and track listing, and i thing Ocarina of Time sound better than on N64, probably also based on the released soundtrack which was recorded with higher quality instrument than the one the N64 could play.
No 3DS music? I need my Kid Icarus Uprising soundtrack soon!
FOR REALL
And no Wii U music either (except for MK8, but that’s more of a Switch game now).
Hope this app will be available on Switch 2 to just play some music in the background of any game.
Anyways, hopefully they'll give us Smash Ultimate's colossal OST...also wondering if they'll do 3rd party games, would love to have some Monster Hunter on there.
i wonder how thatd go since smash ultimate's ost is probably a licensing hell to have it put up on anything else
@@meyadin5844Probably just the Remix
@@meyadin5844yeah not just licensing hell but a ton of the ost is tracks directly from other games, which might end up also being added someday causing redundancies, so if it comes out it's gonna end up a selection of tracks that made sense to add, and tracks they could even get the license to add, likely significantly decreasing the amount of tracks included
Plus you gotta wonder if they'd add the other smash games, which smash ultimate has almost the entirety of in itself as well. Personally I would only include the newly added tracks for each game, but would Nintendo do that?
I NEVER saw this ever actually coming to fruition!!! 🤯
It’s so amazing they finally did sth like this after all these years of people begging for a way to listen to the damn music somewhere reliably as they just continued to delete videos of UA-cam without providing an alternative, and with an extension option too! Hell yes! But man I really hope they add more games quick. There’s like no Pokémon music on it rn, SMG but no SMG2? Basically no Wii games or DS Games or 3DS games? No Mario RPGs at all, the M&L games or Paper Mario, only a single DK game, they better not take months to add new music or this will barely even be worth it
