Love how Craig acknowledges pulling the move from folk style wrestling. I've also seen him incorporate a lot of Judo/Greco-Roman techniques as well. Obviously, he's also been studying some Sambo recently too lol! Clearly not sacrificing technique for "sport loyalty". Whatever works, works!
It's cool to see how Craigs game has evolved from pure Bjj to pure Catch wrestling. Even his jokes resemble old school professional wrestlers, with their personalized gimmicks and all. Dude would've made a killer WWF character in 1970s.
As someone who has never trained BJJ, it's fascinating to hear about & see see the minute technical aspect that's involved in positioning for not only defense but offense as well. Appreciate these easy to digest vids B-Team/Team Volk & look forward to watching, listening & absorbing this kind of information in future vids so hopefully when watching MMA, i'll notice the subtle positional changes to understand what's going on.
Nice stuff. This is why in scholastic wrestling we teach to stay under both arms. Power half or cross face in certain circumstances, but if he sits out, it’s right to underneath both arms. That keeps him from turning into us like this. The opening he has is on the overhand seatbelt grip. We really don’t use that grip much in wrestling because it’s not great for control over an opponent who wants out really bad and has great technique to do it. Of course, the objectives are also different-we don’t choke in wrestling, lol. So if someone sits out like this, go under both arms and he will have a hell of a time turning into you. Now, as the defensive man, try to get his arm out on the side you are turning into and keep it out by pinching off your arm to your side tight.
@@brentonmckiterick4786 I certainly did not say that-at all. If the guy has seatbelt control, then what he is showing absolutely works. What I’m saying is that the top man who has legitimate wrestling experience, won’t hold onto the seatbelt grip. In collegiate wrestling, we are better at controlling people from this position, as people are masters at positional escapes. The seatbelt grip is shit once you start to lose angle on his sit out. That’s why you switch to both arms under his armpits. In wrestling, we will cross face to put him on his back (if we lose the angle here), which plays into the rule set (back exposure). In Jiu Jitsu practice, sometimes I will use the crossface to whip him to his back and rear naked choke from a sort of side angle, but that doesn’t always work. Then I have to switch to mount. The other option in wrestling, is to use the power half to also bring him to his back. Again, it has no application in Jiu Jitsu other than using the half Nelson with a collar choke in the Gi. I use that all the time and choke the shit out of people. What I’m saying here, is that going to both arms under the armpits afford the best control to reestablish position on his back. It helps to prevent him from cutting angle. He can’t turn into me if I have two arms under his armpits and start getting wrist control.
This is essentially “The Running Man Escape” that Pritt Mikelson (spelling probably incorrect) teaches. This works incredibly well. My very favorite back escape. My question is - Why the heck is this not taught in most Jiu Jitsu curriculums???????

@@AshleyJones-wg5qi Can’t wait to see the rematch in Abu Dhabi without the crowd to influence the judges for Volk and make his strikes seem more effective than they were.
@@kallepikku4991 Exactly, wrestling defences and wrestling and judo/sambo foot sweeps. Wrestling has changed mma forever and BJJ is becoming as a whole more and more irrelevant
Volkanosvki is a real problem for everyone even in the 155 division. People underestimate him being a full-package MMA fighter. He is really hard to take down you can see that from the fight he fought with Makhachev, he has a solid clinching game and guess what if you fail to take him down then you had better have some crisp striking IQ he will tear you apart if you don't. He is shedding light on some of his groundwork it is dangerous because he has short legs he can pull that triangle off very quickly. I will pick Islam if these two fight again though.
What should you if they tried a rear naked choke, can someone recommend something. It happens often that my opponents gets a hold of my neck that makes it easier to stretch me out and eventually put that second hook in. Would appreciate any opinion.
I'm wondering who came up with this. I learned this from Rylan lizards (max Holloway's coach). Seems like it's been around a long time. Pretty effective position, even in the gi.
