I will take the 3 Stooges and Abbott & Costello over L & H any day of the week. Too slow and deliberate. YOu can tell all their routines are slowly and deliberately rehearsed. Overrated!!
I’ve got The laurel and Hardy collection. My two sons have watched everyone time and time again. We live in the countryside in Derbyshire. I was out with my sons walking by the river one morning, one was five years old and one was four years old. A man approached who said good morning and I said good morning back to him, that stage my sons giggled and immediately started singing good morning to you and performing the act by the river. It was so funny I’ll never forget it!
amazing ! I haven't seen this since I was in school over 50 years ago, they showed it to us on our last week there, , the next morning, we sang the song to our teacher too, !
Excellent memory--I have not seen this one for about the same time. What a shame, the BBC no longer have the seasons of Stan & Ollie on TV like they used to. A whole generation of kids have been denied this great experience.
Laurel and Hardy were clean because the producers and directors wanted it clean for economic reasons, as opposed to wanting it clean for moral or ethical reasons. They simply had a bigger market it if they kept it clean. Both Stanley Jefferson and Norvell Hardy might have been "clean" on screen, but in real life they were enthusiastic "dirty scoundrels" who practiced adultery and bigamy on a large scale. So it may have been clean, but it was also just _phony_. I'd rather have truth even if its dirty. You can see L and H frequently making fun of Christian values, showing how people who believe them cut off their own toes, get hurt by their own foolishness.
I WAS WATCHING THIS LAST NIGHT ON OLD VHS, NO MATTER HOW OFTEN YOU WATCH THEIR GENIUS , IT STILL MAKES ME LAUGH OUT LOUD, EVEN WHEN YOU KNOW WHAT IS COMING. I'VE JUST PRINTED OFF ALL THEIR FILM TITLES , DATES AND SUPPORT ACTOR'S ETC. I WAS SURPRISED HOW MANY THEY HAD MADE.
THE CHIN GAG WAS STAN'S CREATION, AND PARTY TRICK. HE'D HIT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TABLE WITH THE OTHER FIST, WITH GOOD TIMING. I TRIED THIS ON THE FAMILY ONCE, I HAD A PIECE OF RAW LIVER IN MY MOUTH WHICH I SPAT OUT, CLAIMING I'D BIT MY TONGUE OFF. MY ELDERLY AUNT NEARLY FAINTED. NO MORE.
TEACHER: (to Ollie) "Listen, you spell 'needle'!" (Stan whispers to Ollie) OLLIE: "N - E - I - D - L - E." TEACHER: "There is no 'i' in 'needle'!" STAN: "Then it's a rotten needle!" TEACHER: "Now, what is a comet? (points to convict) You!" CONVICT: "Comet... (pause as he thinks) A comet is a star with a tail on it." TEACHER: "Right! (points to Stan) Name one!" STAN: (pause as he thinks) "Rin Tin Tin!" Classic! :-)
Film Critics always praised Chaplin, Keaton & The Marx Brothers, but they never said that Laurel & Hardy were the funniest of them all (as Buster Keaton said in 1965, at Stan Laurel's funeral).
Jorge Robles you typed the Truth and nothing but the truth. Charlie chaplin just did slapstick and silent comedy which were just ok. Laurel and Hardy were the best. They did all types of comedy excellently. Charlie Chaplins feature films were good and funny but his short comedies are very boring which unnecessary romance. All Laurel and Hardy films are excellent. Even their very old silent films are superb. Charlie chaplin is one the most overrated comedians. Same goes to buster keaton. They did slapstick like Tom and Jerry which little children like. Laurel and Hardy, Rowan Atkinson did higher level of comedies for elders. I think Hal Roach made great comedians. The supporting actors like James finlayson, Charlie Hall, Edgar Kennedy, Walter Long, Arthur Housman, Billy Gilbert, Tiny Stanford, Mae bush were funny. I think James Finlayson's Expressions were as excellent as Oliver's. Why on Earth Charlie chaplin is said to be funny. I don't even smile while seeing his short comedies.
Jorge Robles I respect your opinion, but I must disagree for I believe the Marx Brothers are the best. Due to the fact that their humor was the smartest and the fastest. Though Laurel and Hardy were still great.
I love classic Laurel and Hardy. Thank goodness for the stage of vaudeville in the entertainment industry. If there had not been a a venue like vaudeville we wouldn't have had a lot of great characters like Laurel and Hardy.my favorite short of Laurel and Hardy is is where they get in an argument with the occupants of the car in front of their car while they were stopped in traffic. If you happen to know the name of that short film, please let me know. Thank you
@J Scotland This is all irrelevant, but as long as you brought up the subject of nationality or ethnicity, Chaplin was an English Jew. Ollie's first wife was a Jew.
It was either Harold Lloyd, Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton that said at Stan Laurels funeral, that Stan Laurel was the funniest man.. I have never laughed so much I ran short of oxygen and my ribs hurt than when watching these two gentle men.. parents and elders please always pass this legacy onto your young as I have.. who is that fella @ 3:21.. total bad ass..?
Rin-Tin-Tin was a famous dog in the 30s, known for its roles in various films. The joke is, the dog was a star (as in a famous film star) and he had a tail!
Two people that have gained immortality not due to cruelty but from laughter and making people happy
The thought of these hardened violent cons singing “good morning dear playmates” to each other every single day always makes me laugh.
I always found it funny how so many thugs had such beautiful singing voices XD))
These guys still live on , and bring so many laughs to the world.
"Laughing is a best medicine in the world...We salute both of you for your contribution....

the best comedy team ever, this is true talent not like todays comedy. keep them alwsys in our hearts and show our kids what true comedy is

Classic comedy from the greatest duo ever :)
And 19 people have no sense of humor.
"a blizzard is the inside of a buzzard" such a brilliant come back
The film, "Stan & Ollie" is a remarkable and realistic view of how this two-some became not only popular but eternal. My favorites.
The unforgettable James Finlayson...
Fun fact: James Finlaysons dooooh inspired Homer Simpson’s famous DOH
James Martindale wow
For me they are the greatest comics of all time.
Mee too!
😂
Agreed…we are guilty of contemporary bias….these guys were geniuses
I always love how Stan uses both hands to tap Oliver as opposed to the traditional one hand lol.
MORA ELIANA. BUONANOTTE
Good morning to you. It's always good when Stan & Ollie are in town!
Actor Finlayson ( the teacher ) is also hilarious!

Classic, genius, seminal, legends..
Just the idea of prison school is funny. I can't think of anyone else who used it.
Yeah, they must have been scared as hell of detention.
My all time favourite.
Can't stop laughing after seeing this video
Epic. My childhood heroes.
Classic from the greatest comedy team ever to make a movie.
Yep, and who would of thought a couple of swells like L & H would make so many people laugh.
The two times I lost it: Stan hitting his chin and when the teacher got inked

Lol too funny though
James Finlayson was always like the 3rd character of Laural and Hardy. A great and funny character.
