  • Electroluminescent wire (or EL wire) is a great alternative to neon, and much easier to craft with. In this video I show you how to turn a short length of the green wire into a stylish night light using a combination of epoxy and UV resin.

    what would you suggest if I want to archive this on a canvas, do the wire before or after the resin? I think it might look pretty cool onto the dried resin, but the issue then would obviously be making the holes through the resin and canvas itself, for the battery to be on the backside

    Is the only way to secure the wire to the board with the UV resin itself? I have a UV lamp for my nails, but it's the kind you stick your hand in so I wouldn't be able to cure a whole board :/
    Would crazy/super glue be a decent alternative?

    Congratulations, it was very beautiful. I would just like to give a hint, beware of using ultraviolet light bulbs directly on the skin, ha cases of people who have developed skin cancer due to constant exposure of ultraviolet lamps to dry nail polish, as is the case of miss Illinois , Karolina Jasko, maybe the use of rubber gloves can help avoid this kind of problem.

      Thanks for watching. That's some good advice :) I will certainly protect my hands if I use the UV resin more often.

      There are different wavelengths of uv light (A and B) and the power of the uv leds used in the nail drying machine in this video is quite low (it is not anywhere those near germicidal lamps they sell). It would pose more of a danger to look directly into the light than the risk of getting cancer by exposure to the incident light.

    What a great piece of art! Is it possible to reuse this form for next (exactly the same) project? Will foam board stand multiple use or do I have to start all over again?

    • @resinAce
      @resinAce  4 роки тому

      It is difficult to get the resin out of the foamex mould without damaging the foamex. If you can achieve that then it can be reused.

    What brand of epoxy resin do you use. I've never seen such smooth pouring resin

    • @resinAce
      @resinAce  5 років тому +2

      I am currently using www.resin4art.com I do keep my resin in a warm cupboard, so it's about 27C when I start mixing, and I sometimes stand it in hot (not boiling) water for 5 minutes to warm it a bit further. Just be aware this reduces the pot life (working time) considerably.

    Hello, I love the design!
    Anyway, i made similar myself and the el-wire just discoloure from red to yellow. Do you have any solution for that? I think it's about resin. Did your neon change the color also?

    • @resinAce
      @resinAce  5 років тому

      Hi thanks, I used green wire and it stayed green. I'm not sure why yours changed colour 🤔♠

      @@resinAce Thanks for the response!
      My colors faded away in about a week after i made the light. I think it may be caused by mixing the resin not properly...

    Is there to use a UV cure resin for all the pours? This would be awesome for 4H project days but would need UV resin for time constraints. Where do you find the light wire?

    • @resinAce
      @resinAce  5 років тому

      Hi, I bought the glow wire from an eBay seller like this one ebay.us/n8numW I have only ever used UV resin in small amounts, so I'm afraid I just don't know how it would cure for a large pour.

    • @resinAce

      Hi, I rarely use release agent. In this video I covered the foam core in shiny parcel tape, which the resin does not stick to. ♠
