  • Phoenix, Arizona has a lot of mountains around it and various parks which provide extensive hiking trail activity. In particular, there are a number of Regional Parks that I find valuable. Usery Mountain Regional Park is one such park. I have used several trails in the park; this video is a report on my trek up the Wind Cave Trail.
The park guide brochure rates the Wind Cave Trail as “difficult,” its highest rating. It was for me. The trail is 1.5 miles long one-way, rises 812 feet, and is steep, rocky, and treacherous. Watch your footing! From the desert floor you can spot the cave. Up there? Way up there? I’m going to have to climb all the way up there?! Of course, all of that is the allure of the trail!
Frankly, the cave itself isn’t that impressive, but the view from the cave is awesome. My, Phoenix sure has a lot of mountains around it. And reaching the cave means you met the challenge!
You can climb higher than the cave up to the summit of Pass Mountain, but you are warned that the trail is not maintained past Wind Cave. Continue climbing at your own risk.
Enjoy my video of my climb up the Wind Cave Trail in Usery Mountain Regional Park!
