    8lb-10lb X9 braid to 6-10lb fluorocarbon leader was a game changer for me when it comes to spinning gear. Being able to just lean into a fish and know you're going to get a hook in them is huge for me. I can cast really far and still get the hook in a fish where I wouldn't have a shot with all the stretch. I love your videos, but I could never go back to straight fluoro on spinning tackle

      @@SubZero-pi4jr Just i barley use a spinning rod. Wacky in the spring. Then its basically just a drop shot. Neko here or there. I can keep the braid all year and no fighting line twist. Braid is definitely what got me back to a spinning reel years ago

    I do agree with using straight whatever kind of line you’re using. That being said I use Monofilament line for most of my fishing. I find it to be more abrasive resistant, more forgiving, more manageable, more consistent and a lot less expensive.

    Not worth the cost. I use a lot of copolymer with good results. No one even talks about the copolymer. As far as braid to florocarbon, I don’t do it but you’re the only pro that I’ve heard bashing it.

      P line makes the best co polymer line on the market. I use it on my flipping sticks.

    Spooling up Fluoro the “right” way is like writing in the sand on the beach. It results in only fleeting satisfaction before your effort is washed away once the water comes and goes. The very next trip you’re into the kinks, coils and boiy-yoings that make light tackle work unpleasant.

    After I started using fluorocarbon 20 years ago, not withstanding certain applications, I use fluorocarbon 90% of the time when compared to mono. It's a better line. Additionally, once I spool new line on my reels, I release all the line from the reel behind the boat (no lure, line only), while in gear and then re-spool. This process removes any unnatural turns and twists resulting in a straight spooled line. I've never had a problem.

    Sorry Randy, the actual science says otherwise.
    Fluoro stretches more than mono does in most cases, and practically equally in cases of stiffer fluoro. The difference is that fluoro is less elastic, meaning once it is stretched, it STAYS stretched, which weakens the line. Elasticity is NOT a measure of "stretchiness"...its a measure of how well a material returns to its original shape after being stretched.
    Mono is FAR more abrasion resistant in all the tests on yt. Diameter for diameter, nylon mono is on average 30-40% more abrasion resistant.
    Fluoro is *NOT* less visible in water than mono. Why people keep perpetuating this myth is beyond me. There are SO many scientific tests that disprove this, it's like still claiming the earth is flat.
    Mono sinks nearly as fast once surface tension is broken. After that, fluoro sinks 5-15% faster depending on the line diameter.

    • @edwardcowan7012
      @edwardcowan7012 9 днів тому +3

      Thanks for the info. I knew mono was more abrasive resistant and a lot cheaper. I also knew that I hate Flouro, had nothing but problems with it and never use it. The rest just reinforced what I felt about it.

      @@mistertwister1816 I did a whole video on the mathematics of why fluoro isn't less visible. Basically, the super simple version is this: it's a round strand, not a flat sheet. Because it's round, it doesn't matter what the refractory index is...if it's even slightly lower or higher than water, it's plainly visible.
      There's no such thing as "less visible" for a round strand. Either you can see it or you can't.
      Even glass, which is MUCH higher refraction index than water is completely invisible in water
      ...when it's a flat sheet.
      When it comes to visibility of a substance in water, the shape matters, and a round string is highly visible no matter WHAT it's made of.

  • @squonto47
    @squonto47 9 днів тому +5

    I’ve seen 2 separate discussions from actual materials engineers on serious bass forums that confirm:
    1) the range of stretch of fluorocarbon line is virtually the same as mono
    2) ditto for the “invisibility”
    3) it is marginally more abrasion resistant
    4) it is more dense, therefore it sinks and is noticeably more sensitive than mono
    5) knot strength used to be a concern but modern fluoro seems to have solved that
    6) all the above taken together, it’s up to the user to decide whether it’s worth the cost.

    I personally like using a Fluorocarbon coated Copolymer line. It’s 1/2 the cost and you get 1/3 more per spool. It’s strong as all get out and it’s invisible in the water. I’ve used all different kinds of Fluorocarbon line and I don’t like how stiff it feels and it breaks far too easy. It’s one reason I don’t use line lighter than 12 lb test, even with Mono or Copolymer lines. Braid is another story. I use braid on Whopper Ploppers and heavier grass jigs and frogs. I probably change out my line every other year. I think it’s a myth you have to do it every year or every 6 months.
