- Oh my god. What a find. I found my old copy of this based on Johnny Personality talking about it in our interview, and had it digitalized. Enjoy and had fun with the way we looked in the 80s but the foundation of our beliefs for the band really do ring true from the beginning to our separation 20 or so years later. And the friendship between Ben and I is obvious.
We actually filled out a release form on this high school show. Sold our souls. I'm surprised it has not showed up on the internet yet.

Thank you for sharing this! The memories!
Nice find John! Cheers from Italy!
The first album changed my life. Still love it to this day. This interview is golden!
Second album changed my life for real maybe saved it 🤷
@@leahflower9924 Same! Both are classic

Wow a piece of Maine Punk Rock History. I was a Sophomore at Cony.
Scary! I was singing a Screeching Weasel song in my head about 5 mins before this wonderful video of yours appeared in the feed! Thanks for sharing

this is AMAZING
Jughead, you're one of my spirit animals.
This video is epic!
Boogadaboogadaboogada was always my favorite album since i was a young guy. This was a nice gem, and brought back a lot of memories for me. At almost 50 big screeching weasel fan got me through a lot of good and bad times. Love this
Thanks for writing James! Means a lot to hear your story! - Jughead
In 1987 I owned every t-shirt on the stage.
Fuck I long for these days...great interview
i hated being a teenager and found the 80's overall a very difficult decade but both 80's punk and non-hairband metal and the thousands of amazing gigs i got to see back then (yes METALLICA and SLAYER actually did play clubs at one time) were alot of the reason i didn't hang myself and why i'm still around to talk about it. me and my buddy didn't own cars and i still remember taking hour and a half long bus rides to get to gigs and not even being one hundred percent certain how we were gonna get back. we usually had a ride but not always.
and yeah amazing how a vid like this can literally almost act as a time machine but i do have to mention even now i'm jealous you owned a camera back then they were rare and expensive and nobody i knew owned one quite unlike today where even family pets have cameras. i don't look back on the 80's fondly overall but when it comes to the music i will definitely make an exception.
Aww I hated late 90s early 2000s I was the weird punk girl and everyone liked Timberlake and Eminem
@@leahflower9924 don't blame ya the shit i hated as a teenager in the 80's was genius compared to timberlake.
Just remember every kid is sad, picked on, just socially weird. I'm 45 now 6'3 250 and happy exactly the way I was raised and turned out got a few great kids. Ones cool kid 🤣 one gets picked on and other is a stoner. I didn't get picked on to much, but I was as hard hard core heroin, coke and alcoholic. Now I just dedicate my life to my 3 kids and expose them to punk and hardcore. Them music genres excepted all geeks. Weirdos, homos straights fat skinny weak. It's nice. Don't know what it's like today cuz last show I saw was teenage bottle rocket a decade ago. Still seemed like nice group of kids.
What a great time capsule. Thank you for posting this. Regardless of what happend in the future with this band, screeching weasel was very influential to alot of people and still means alot to me
Same!
I actually think Ben Weasel, as much crap as he gets, got better with time. I don't have to agree with everything he's done. He's a punk rocker, not a role model, and he knows it. If anything, all the controversy and his responses just told me he's one of the real ones.
@@urphakeandgey6308yes he's like a fine wine 🍷
F! So happy this exists!!!
You look so cute in this John!!! Your hair and clothes are perfect :D
Holy shit this is so cool
brilliant
Ben is so funny love it ❤️
SW trivia: The Ozzfish EP release was cancelled. Only 2 copies (TPs) were ever pressed, and one of them (Warren Fischer’s) is listed on Discogs right now for $30K.
Also, it was cool of Danzig to do a cameo in the suicide PSA 21:25
Nice to see Ben was honing his heel persona way back when I was in grammar school. Heavy psa mid show. Damn. Thanks for sharing John… errrr… mr. Jughead
That metalhead in the middle is pretty charming lol

Hey John, i was just wondering what Ben is doing now? And also I really love your music man, you inspire me a lot and I think you have great talent for guitar and I wish you the best of your music career!
A Normal Turtle, Ben and I split around 2006 but he kept Screeching Weasel going. So you can search that and find what he is up to very easily. I formed other bands too, Even In Blackouts, The Mitochondriacs, The Mopes, and Semi Famous. I also moved to Japan!
That’s cool that you moved to Japan, and that’s great that you keep your career going with other bands. Again, I hope that you can keep going with your music and you inspire me a lot.
OK but who won the football game? Tape cut off in the 3rd quarter.
Ha! Now people won't know what you mean. I cut it off! Almost kept it... but didn't.
Hey Juggie just think how truly obvious THIS is..> Had you found a comparable songwriting frontman who did NOT sabotage himself and all his band's chances commercially...> Think how rich, famous, and set you would be now in the present...> Ben is and always will be his own, yours, and screeching weasel's worst enemy...>
I hope no one had the goal of getting rich, famous stupid and fat.
@@chuckthunders I thought it was amazing that weasel stayed pretty much underground considering they practically have cult type fans and they had anthems like hey suburbia etc
@@leahflower9924 Hi, I don‘t know about the fame, but back then they hit my heart and guts and „we become what we hate“ is the one for me.
They had a big impact on other bands in my opinion.
Lame take bro.

Ill give em credit on the favorite bands query- Ramones of course (77-82), Angry Samoans -back from Samoa, Black Flag- damaged but none of that would exist w/o the Beach Boys, no1 will ever come close to Brian Wilson.
Big deal. Beach Boys wouldn't exist without Chuck Berry.

Wavin’ Gerbs off SW Self Titled
"Led Zeppelin represented stupidity".............(sigh) Ben youre a character yknow. Boldest words anyone coulda said in 1987
Why does ben got this proto Sjw haircut
😂
Lmao. I am sure he cringes at all of this now. Thank you for the first funny and good comment in this whole message section,
Uhhh, it’s a unspiked Mohawk dummies
there wasn't any SJWs back then..... well maybe an early form of them lol but not what we have today
Man it bugs the shit out of me hearing him rag on metal music right in front of three teenage Metalheads..to me I can’t see how someone could like punk and not metal cos it’s such a fkn upgrade ya know ? You like fast music right so why the fuck wouldn’t you like slayer who is 100 % more interesting then the ramones. That was the problem with the punk rock bible with not being able to Supposedly enjoy anything else besides three chord songs. I feel into that shitty way of thinking when I was a teenager and first getting into underground punk rock denying grunge cos it was mainstream but you would never hear me ragging on any metal genre back then.
I grew older and enjoyed all the alternative and classic rock that got me into rock music in the first place 🥇
He does clarify himself about Led Zeppelin. I don't overall disagree with you because your opinion was my opinion in this interview. Believe me there is a lot to criticize Mr. Weasel about but I do think he is clarifying that he is attacking the pomposity, degradation, and loss of touch with reality that many metal bands found themselves in. Just watch Decline of the Western Civilization - The Metal Years.
Same here! Back then, punks couldn’t know that you were into metal. And metal heads can’t know you like what’s called classic rock today, or any 70’s hits, like Carly Simon. It was so bottled up back then. I enjoy all of that music now!
Slayer is thrash metal..
Can you not put down the Ramones geez
@@JohnJughead I was a fan of led Zeppelin and still thought I hate led zeppelin was a hilarious song especially the cocaine for jimmy page part lol
Don't know bout you, guys, but i guess Phil Anselmo "took" some things from Ben
Mocking NatSocs?!
“Everybody i disagree with is a n@z!”
"a girl got punched"..... LOL wasn't there some controversy about this 20 plus years later?!?!?!
I left that unspoken knowing it would be spoken by others.
Ben’s hair
In those days he looked so much like Al Pacino in Taxi Driver. He used to wear a green army jacket like that too. I remember thinking, I'd never have hair like that, but I thought it was cool.
@@JohnJugheadoh wow hi John! I get the feeling 2023 Ben would make fun of someone with that haircut. I personally think it looks cool.
Ha! We both had haircuts of the time, but probably my age, but I still think we look cool!

Ben probably working at a car wash now because he gave it up when he got too old to be Punk.
I think he's pretty wealthy
The one guy says that he hates heavy metal and the guy next to him looks like a heavy metal guy...... !!!! Go figure.......
Well... If you are talking about us. We were both metal fans, but my hairstyle was actually based after Daniel Ash from Bauhaus, far from Metal. I never went for hair fashion, and that was one of the only times, but definitely not what metal people were wearing at the time.
@@JohnJughead talking about the guy next to Ben Weasel who i assume was part of the band at the time!!!!
@@Jil8840 that is me. I started the band and was in it twenty years.
@@JohnJughead wow! Your hair looks like metal to me, haha. I have seen you with short hair. I couldn't recognize you in this video. What's with the long hair anyway.......!!!! You were playing hardcore punk......!!! Ben says in this video that he hates metal and analyses it, too..... and Black flag was his favourite band???? Wow. My war was heavy metal. Black flag were influenced by metal and Led Zeppelin in particular. Ben doesn't make much sense here!!!! I was listening to the new album some months ago!!!!!
@billk8840 I feel like i just had a conversation with a 13 year old who recently got into punkrock after reading your last comment. , its like anybody with any depth or varying opinions is public enemy number one in the new version of what passes for punkrock in 2023. So lame.
Wow always evasive for leaning into any political message to this day too...
own who are its ok to say dumb people are a stain on society... bill maher made a career saying Americans as a whole are stupid. I don't feel Weasel has been overly political, but messages are where they are, and screeching weasel has a very independent sound and message. I'm really glad for the last album it's overall fantastic. Every interview always wants you talk about messages in music and art is art open to interpretation, find the messages yourself or don't...
What the fuck are you talking about?
@ScottsManic. You come across like a “1-direction”/K-pop fan.
Ben hates any band more successful than his.
Huh, that's interesting because at this time ALL the bands we mentioned both liking and not liking were more successful than us.
@@JohnJughead You might be right. Trying to recall that bands he didn't talk shit on. Even Circle Jerks was with the caveat of how the early stuff was good then they went to shit. Maybe I missed the rare exception. Who was the less successful band Ben gave kudos to?
Were you in the bowling pic from Boogadaa? If so, I seen your cock. :)
@@JohnJughead PS. Impulse Manslaughter fuckin' ruled. And again, there was shit talk about "when you can hear the vocals". Just can't give a straight compliment.
@@Cubodesangre666 is that a metal band lol I like the metal heads in this interview
@@leahflower9924 Sorry. Is what a Metal band?
Not..number one thrasher
"Led zeppelin is equal to stupidity" that still doesnt sound right in 2022, ( talking about selling out and mentions Alice cooper is a favorite ha ha)my buddy loves screaching weasel since i was in high school in the early 90's, and i thought ill see what they are like thru this video, im gonna assume their music is angry, run of the mill punk rock. Pretentious straight edge guys are all the same, all need a dad hug they never got.
I don't think Ben weasel is straight edge he liked beer and cigarettes he just liked to stay fit and look really good lol
Ben gave a legitimate list of opinions on why he felt that way about Led Zeppelin. Yet, here’s the third/fourth comment where someone takes the substance out & misrepresents his sentiment in order to suit a narrative .
Think about this one: “I hate Led Zeppelin” was written 30-some years ago and for some reason it bothers woke- “punks” in a 2023 message section more than it bothered all the hessians and metalheads in 1987. Mission Accomplished.
@googleedwardbernays6455 what is the narrative you mention, kinda lost me there
I love this band but come on, if you hate Led Zeppelin and the Beatles and you don't like Metallica means your not mature enough to speak about music. Favorite SW song, "The Science Of Myth"
😅 Ben was a baby weasel in this come on
Just because you don’t agree with somebody more critical than you, doesnt mean they are wrong. Maybe its you who's too programmed with status quo narratives thats wrong.
wtf they don’t drink? ain’t no punks I’ve been around
Not even old style? Everybody knows that beer ain't drinkin
Crying in my beer oh oh oh
