Kaz had plenty of injuries, Billy was great in his prime but at that comp, he looked to be past his prime, would have been amazing to see a comp between an in prime kaz and billy. I'd still give the nod to Kaz, Kaz in his day was probably the strongest human-being on earth

Billy doesn't realize that Kaz was in his 20's at that time. When you're young, you can bounce back easily. Also, the interviewer should do his research. Lou Ferrigno was in the 1st WSM competition held in 1977. Billy Graham was in the 4th which was held in 1980. Also, I guess Billy didn't do his research, because he states that KAZ was injury free....hahahaha. Kaz had THE MOST injuries of ALL the competitors, yet kept winning in those early years.

Even some Benny's (Speed) would do because in my experience they really perk you up but don't give you the euphoric high that Cocaine does. If he were just doing lines of Coke then there would be more obvious tell-tale signs of that. Speed is a strange drug in-that you can be SUPER tired and then do some and it's as if you had a full nights sleep. But like I said you don't necessarily feel high like when you're on blow.

  • @discernment8963

Listening to Kaz he really seems to have mastered a mind/body/task connection ahead of most, especially at that time. Someone mentioned on here his youth, a good lite meal, & a (power) nap, I think that's most likely. With the ability Kaz has to relax and channel things, being able to do that in the midst of everything he's probably capable of doing something like that. The line coke theory is obviously made by someone who's never been a serious lifter or competitor at anything physically extreme. It might work for 1event if everything went exactly right timing wise, which in a competition like this is a sucker's bet.Kaz was way ahead of his time in most aspects, I don't see him even considering something like that. Before you conclude I'm an innocent/ignorant fanboy, I tested that theory in a meet yrs ago, & it was a stupid mistake. Frankly I've been more of a "Seat of the pants " guy like Graham, than a precision calculator like Kaz.

Kaz was likely taking half hour naps in between the events, and maybe getting IV's of saline and vitamin b12, which would have certainly boosted his endurance and overall recovery. Those things weren't illegal.. So Kaz may have had the secret that others weren't doing which put him above and beyond. If that's the case, then credit to him! That's all stuff that really wasn't even well known until NCAA or Olympic wrestlers and MMA guys started using IVs to quickly recover from brutal weight cuts. UFC did away with IV therapy after weight cuts in the hopes of deterring extreme cutting, but it did very little to curb that behavior. All it really did was send guys out to fight in a much more dehydrated and dangerous condition than they ever were before, causing even more brutal KOs and emergency health issues. A dehydrated brain is much more susceptible to being knocked out and concussed.

Kazmaier doing blood doping? Sorry, I doubt it. Taking steroids, yeah. He did; all of the competitors did, including Graham, who was on everything but roller skates. As for Kaz disappearing, he was probably tired and wanted to rest up for the next comp. Doing max efforts would tire anyone out, even those who are juicing. I'm not saying it didn't happen; it might have, as blood doping had been done as far back as the late 1960's. I think Graham's just sore that a younger, far better trained, and hungrier athlete cleaned house. Let it go, Billy. You lost. Drugs--the same drugs that everyone else was taking--or not, you lost. Kazmaier was simply better, and was simply one of the greatest at strongman events. You weren't.

I have some doubts because if there was a nurse present, and she was giving legal injections of anything, all of the competitors would have done the same thing. Who paid for the nurse services, I doubt she worked for free. Did Kaz have his own private nurse? He didn’t say why the nurse was there. If that's allowed by the WSM, why didn’t all the athletes have their own private doctors or nurses on site? I am not accusing Kaz of lying; however, his story seems incomplete.

If Bill Kazmaier was gone from the field - back to his hotel room - for only one hour at a time, I would find it hard to believe that he'd have enough time to be swapping out his tired blood for new blood. I think Graham's contention fails due to a lack of time.

Kaz took this VERY badly, and, sadly, badmouthed Billy Graham in a few interviews after this.

Bill took steroids but blood doping i don't think he did. i think he went back to his hotel to just rest. i know for me being outside and doing something really taxing on the body can were you out. taking 30 minnits to an hour resting indoors can work great for recuperation physically and mentally. it's a shame Billy Graham didn't compete in his prime, i'm sure he would have done better. after having to drop the belt to Bob 'howdy doody' he lost it a bit mentally and started abusing drugs. so during the wsm he wasn't up to par to compete as he could have when he trained with Arnold.

In an interview, on you tube, Kaz states that he went to his hotel room and received an injection of Saline from a nurse and it was legal.

Well how long 1hr think he has to walk to his room so take that away from the hr how far away was his room and thinks guys what's the first thing you do when you get home or to your room use the bathroom maybe not everybody now they must hook him up and do this how long is to hook him up and do whatever needs to be done to blood dope now so far he has walked to his room right how long say 15 mins and that's walking fast and remember he had already did events so he is tired then now he is in his room does anybody know how long blood doping takes so say they have 30 mins left is it enough to get him doped and back out so he isn't late and he is Kaz so he must be there in time or they would notice him if he was late to me Kaz is the greatest and the others are looking for reasons why he is that much better they banned him 4 yrs because he was winning to much and he was American I say he wouldn't have time to blood dope in 1hr less then that do to going to his room 30mins top not enough but what do others think do the math the walk to the room remember walk back also I say no he might have done some stuff power lifters smell before they lift.

dont be a douch, blood doping was HIGHLY used in the early 80's. its the only way to get that way, THATS WHY they BANNED IT, it wasnt banned then

***** You really don't see a difference between taking something that's no longer allowed and taking something that was already banned? Bonds is a cheat should absolutely never be inducted in to the baseball HOF.

McGwire opened his mouth. He made the decision yet he beat the tests (what does that tell you? It probably tells you to keep your mouth shut and Bonds was smart. Bonds transformation was utterly ridiculous and it is obvious but again, pros are stupid not to use (why give up all that extra money and fame-I have not heard about the baseball body count like there is in football, pro wrestling and boxing where suicide is a huge cause of death due to head trauma, but the media blames steroids. Look at Seau and Benoit for example. A number of former pro boxers also committed suicide, after living with dementia and depression (Seau and Benoit actually became psychotic)
Guys beat tests in the old days any number of ways using masking agents, getting a bladder urine change (dehydrating and then injecting clean piss directly into the bladder before a test), or get tipped off about tests and take orals and water based injectables exclusively during anytime where they may be tested and they get tipped off and clean up for a few weeks. Some tests were administered at "random" meaning only the nobodies got tested and of course caught because the sponsors did not want their best money makers' names being tarnished> Are they clean? Did all the benefits of the steroids disappear.
