It's so cool to see Feijoa growing in the UK! This is my favourite fruit ❤ it reminds me of when I first emigrated to NZ as a kid, I can smell the fruit laden trees just thinking about it! I will definitely be giving this a go to see if I can get one to fruit here in UK too! They are so prolific trees, well worth it!
Hi @erint5373, your comments made me smile 😊 It’s so nice to hear that this brought back fond memories of your childhood in NZ and the smell of fruit laden trees 🤩 Please give it a go! They do really well in the South East. Where are you located in the UK?
How many years does it take for those varieties to bear fruit? Thank you for showing us your pineapple guavas. I just got a couple of seedlings and a Coolidge.
Hi Sheri, my large one took at least 4-5 years to fruit, but that’s only because it isn’t self fertile. Once I bought another variety which helped with cross pollination it fruited for me. Since you have different varieties they shouldn’t take to long to fruit 😀
Hi! So great to see all your Feijoa trees in the UK! How do you find the different varieties? I notice when buying these plants online in the UK they tend just to say Acca Sellowina/pineapple guava, but no varieties mentioned.
Hi Mike, My favourite named variety has to be the Mammoth. It has a real tropical fruit flavour and very refreshing to the palate. Closely followed by my unknown variety which I have now named bubble Gum, as it has a hubba bubba flavour and is pretty sweet. Triumph comes last as it is more tart than the rest, but May improve in flavour as the tree matures. Are you based in the Uk?
The Agroforestry trust sells varieties sometimes, and I got Triumph and Mammoth from Burncoose nursery. Unique is available from different nurseries sometimes.
@@joestropicals6760 Thanks for the reply. You are in London though right? I'm up in Scotland and haven't been brave enough tp leave my small bush/tree outside yet. What variety would you say is the best? I have sellowaina. APologies for the deluge of questions. Love the content

Are your trees hardy or do you have to protect them from frost
No protection at all over winter. They are fully hardy 😃

how do you protect your feijoas in winter ?
@Seedgrower007, they don’t get any protection as they are very hardy trees.
Here in London we rarely get below-5c in winter.
Have you grown a mango tree in uk?
I have tried, but they hate our winter 🥶
I’ve heard that the Glenn mango tree is winter hardy🙄
