I'm the same here. After watching her sing " Alfie", I've been non-stop watching all available videos of her. I'm excited to watch her this year in the movie "Wicked."
I feel that "underrated" is not such a bad thing. It affords artists of this calibre the opportunity to produce work worthy of their gift; to appear on the most prolific stages, and to retain a sense of decency that would be - otherwise - lost were they to be "rated" and widely-celebrated (mainstream) for being as exceptional as they inherently are.
Depending on the upcoming daytime Emmy's she may make history by becomming the 2nd black EGOT winner. and the 13th overall winner. Very very rare. all in only a year or so of her American career.
She's already one of the greatest singers of all time. Now if you meant the industry and the audience are going to catch up at some point, well 2 years later, still waiting...
I can't even imagine being Cynthia Erivo and seeing Aretha Franklin out in the audience singing along with me and nodding her head. I would have lost it! Wow!
I pray for every person who needs a miracle. I believe GOD can do the impossible. He can make a way where there seems to be no way. May GOD touch your health, your home, your family, your faith, and give you peace.Amen.🙏🏼🕊❤
To dream the impossible dream To fight the unbeatable foe To bear with unbearable sorrow To run where the brave dare not go To right the unrightable wrong To love pure and chaste from afar To try when your arms are too weary To reach the unreachable star This is my quest, to follow that star, No matter how hopeless, no matter how far To fight for the right without question or cause To be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest That my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I'm laid to my rest And the world will be better for this That one man scorned and covered with scars Still strove with his last ounce of courage To fight the unbeatable foe, to reach the unreachable star
She sang this as though she was connected to his vision and emotions. His ambition became hers and she expressed it through song so that we could all feel it. Very soulful. This is what it means to be a singer and psalmist. You’re fully engulfed with the emotions of the song. Anyone with a nice voice can sing, but not everyone has this type of connection to what they’re singing about. I’m in awe. They couldn’t have chosen anyone better for this occasion. I’m inspired. President Kennedy would be moved by this I’m sure. What a great way to be honored.
Imagine: you are asked to sing one of the most glorious songs ever written. Then you find out that Aretha Franklin was singing ALONG with you! Cynthia is amazing, joyful, beautiful and all other superlatives
The video montage of President Kennedy and then this version one of the greatest theatre songs of all time. Cynthia Erivo received the standing ovation she deserves
Her voice is absolutely breath taking I'll take over a screamer anyday she just proves you don't have to scream grunt riff and run to sound amazing KUDOS TO YOU MISS CYNTHIA!!!!!!👍🏼
Donovaughn Berchielli YESSSSSSS! This woman's voice is about singing the meaning of the song and NOT using it to self servingly showcase her voice. Her STUNNING voice shine through anyway!
Obviously you don't know much about singing. To comment in a condescending manner about other styles or techniques makes your ignorance show. Music, like everything in life, is a kaleidescope. It's quite okay to like/love one type or style without putting down the others, everyone's vocal ability is not the same, they do what they can and try to be good at it. It's not about proving anything, its about using what you have. #Smh. 🙄🙄😏
@@inspirebymikaeli3502 I just listened to Tevin Campbell "the impossible dream" tribute to Jackie Robinson. He sang the song beautifully. Yet, we can't deny the fact that Cynthia Erivo transmitted and projected the song with great sentiment and power. Don't you agree?😊 Her performance touched my heart. Although I like both artists, for me Cynthia Erivo's rendition is henceforth the best I've heard up 'til now. Bravo!! - to both of them! -
I love Cynthia and this is great. However, I feel the lyrics are so simple but profound that it doesn't need all the dressing up in this arrangement. For me, Bryan Stokes Mitchell has still done the best version. Just my opinion.
Art is my absolute passion. If more people were creative the world would be a much better place, I've absolutely no doubt in my mind. This song made me cry. Oh what could be possible....
I somewhat hope that she never has a chance to go mainstream. I feel that her talent can only be truly appreciated by people who really appreciate music. Lol
I just wanted you to know that I get what you're saying here. My wish, though, is a comes from a different angle. I wish, and hope, for a day when the vast majority of people, not only really learn to appreciate the deeper rhythms and meaning of the musical experience, but also bring with them clearheaded reason in the dissecting of the lyrics for moving us forward as humans and as nations.
@Cynthia Erivo Wow! you noticed my comment. I just love your voice! so unique and beautiful. I have a request, can u make a studio version of this song? So far this was the best cover of Impossible dream.
When words fail and you can’t find the term to fully appreciate the elegance, power, sculpture, and serenity of a moment... you can only call it beautiful...
fyi , this is the 12x i repeat this video.. well her performance got me chills yet emotion.. coz with all the pop cultures now, every great singer seem to make a competition against each other and forget the true essence of being a singer that is to deliver the message of the song.. I'm done with all the runs, rifting, etc .. all we need is the heart and true inside the performance.. good job dear! u may under the radar but u're definitely catch my attention better than those top singers
Good god. I first saw her in the movie "Widows". Wondered who that was. Looked her up in the credits. Had never heard of her before. But I keep hearing references to her here and there over the years so I looked her up just now on youtube and found this. And. She. Is. AMAZING. Now I have to find more.

Me too! Can't tell you how many times I watched her sing "Alfie" for Dionne Warwick! I just love her! Wow.
Me too❤
listen to her tribute to earth wind and fire too where she sang reasons and fantasy
just "came" from Alfie too!!!!! LOL
I feel like she is the MOST underrated artist in the country. Her instrument is so unique and powerful.

And the winner for best male version is Luther Vandross, no doubt!
I feel gratitude to have been a Kennedy Youth and to have lived long enough to have voted for Barack Obama.

To be willing to march, march into hell

To this glorious quest
That my heart

When I'm laid to my rest
And the world will be better for this
Oh, that one man, scorned and covered with scars

To reach the unreachable, the unreachable
