I just watched "Wicked" yesterday, and I already want to rewatch it. Cynthia was perfect casting for Elphaba, and even though she's in her late 30s playing the college aged Elphaba, she really captures her awkwardness perfectly.
I'm so so happy that the Wicked buzz is finally giving Cynthia the attention she deserves, her singing skills are just beyond, and her music career is amazing too, I can't wait for her next album. Seeing her shine alongeside Ariana was truly a blast, I got so emotional. I've been a big fan of hers for the last three years, and to see the world finally pay her some earned respect and admiration, it fills my heart.
She's an Oscar away from getting the EGOT status. If she wins for Wicked next year, she could be the youngest EGOT winner to achieve the status and the fastest to achieve all four awards. I liked Erivo in “Harriet” so much. I watched that movie twice. Erivo’s performance was so darn good; she embodied Harriet’s determination, faith in God, and bravery so brilliantly. Such an underrated film. I liked Erivo in “Chais Walking” as well.
Ever since i left the theater yesterday after seeing the Wicked movie I’ve been trying to figure out why the movie hit me in my heart like it did. I’ve seen it on stage so it wasn’t a new story for me. Today I realized it was because of Cynthia. The emotion in her performance is amazing. Ariana was great too, but Cynthia spoke to my soul 💚
The placement of her instrument is supernatural. There is no one who has the color, depth, and timbre that encompasses vocal excellence. She knows her voice and what it can and will do. Few have that gift. An artist indeed.
Another favorite is when she and the cast of The Color Purple were on Good Morning America singing "The Color Purple". I believe she won an Emmy for that performance!!
So every time this goddess opens her mouth, got it! 😂 Dang, I just love her. I wish I was already a fan before Wicked. But now that I've been exposed to her radiance, there is no going back. I've been watching all her interviews too. I can see that she has a beautiful soul as well. ✨️ We will get to see her live out all of her dreams and touch as many hearts as possible. ✨️

I see no notes about it but I was first blown away with CE in a movie called Bad Times at the El Royale (Jeff Bridges, Lewis Pullman). She sang Motown songs, most of it a capella!!!! Her acting was good, too, but her singing voice.....wowwww.
Only poor material can hurt her. She’s a legend in our own time. This applies to just a handful of artists. Her rendition of Alfie was my favorite. She has the clarity of Warwick but has incredible power. IMO the definitive version.
Wake up Britain, Cynthia is hardly known in her homeland but Wicked will surely change this. Her concert at the BBC proms with the most amazing BBC orchestra is the best concert I have ever heard, to open with Rain on My Parade was as brave as it was perfect, on a par with Barbra's version. A singer to cherish

That way Cynthia Erivo could do both "The Color Purple" and "Wicked". I think Steven Spielberg should've directed "The Color Purple" movie musical since he did a great job with both the 1985 film and the "West Side Story" remake. I think it should've had more songs from the stage version like "Too Beautiful for Words" and 'African Homeland", make the storytelling and production be better and also have Jennifer Hudson as Shug Avery. Then it would've been a Best Picture winning movie musical masterpiece! As far as the "Wicked" movie, I haven't seen it yet, I heard the soundtrack though and clearly Cynthia Erivo did a great job, but to be honest, I'm still a little disappointed that Idina Menzel didn't get to reprise as Elphaba, I know she's too old now, but still there's a side of me that makes me wish they could've deaged her with makeup and visual effects. And I'm still not sure if splitting "Wicked" into two movies was a good idea. But I"ll have to wait and see about that. If I change my mind I'll let everyone know.
