It's amusing to see Miss Hepburn here. Back in 1973, she had never done a television talk show. She and Dick Cavett did an impromptu interview that was extraordinary. Apparently, she enjoyed the experience because she did many other shows, including this one with Phil.
I thought this was a terrible interview. Thought he was very rude to her. She should have stopped the interview. She didn’t need to sit and listen to his ridicule. He was so very disrespectful. She is a wonderful lady. I just love, her. She is so very honest and funny!
A real interesting interview, Donahue asked interesting questions, that most interviewers don't do,enjoyed her movies, think she was a good actress, she had true liberal democratic political beliefs, not surprising Hollywood or Hollyweird is very political (liberal )and expects that adherence of it's actors and actresses.
This lady was the best thing that hollywood put out a legend in her lifetime, she and ST were perfect together even though he was married to someone else they were friends for years.... what is wrong with a single woman who is friends with a married man
Donahue’s interview style is so aggressive it reminds me of how a lawyer might question a witness on the stand. It sometimes leads to some interesting answers from his subjects but boy can it be hard to watch. Hepburn was certainly more than capable to hold her own in the face of such an abrasive, perhaps tactless, approach nonetheless.
She was a wonderful actress, her body of work is amazing. I loved her in Guess Who's Coming To Dinner. She also was an opinionated, strong person. I really believe not an easy person to get along with. I don't think she ever got married. Jane Fonda does not have fond memory of hers when they made 'On Golden Pond'. By the way, Jane makes a great impersonation of hers.
I think Phil saying “I accept your scolding”! is amazing! And I think he handled it brilliantly! C’mon, props to the guy! He calms her by responding to the scold with excellent support of his bringing it up and continues right along. Funny how we get to a certain age, we see it with our parents and grandparents, and at some point we just think we can get after anyone considerably younger and say whatever we want and we do get away with it! I can’t wait to be Katharine Hepburn(ish)! ;)
Kate Hepburn is my favorite actress of all time. Since her book was already out, his questions were fair game. The interview was hilarious when she insisted he was not Phil Donahue. I have seen all her interviews, this was by far the most interesting. I just love her personality....I have seen all her movies except for The Corn is Green. I wonder what the reason was why she wrote the book since she highly valued her privacy....especially about her relationship with Spencer.
I would say Cindy that even though Ms Herburn was a winner of 4 oscars and made so many movies they were made at a time when the studio paid a wage/salary, before the days when actors received royalties etc.. I would say Ms Hepburn wrote the book for the money... I agree with you.. she is may favourite actress of all time a true lady a true woman of intellect and humour.. The best actor man or woman to ever be in the lights ever...
How Donahue ever became as popular as he did, I have absolutely no idea. He had the personality of a wet mop, and even less tact. Like, dude, what's with the yelling? She's sitting less than a foot away from you. The end was hilarious though. "Okay, I'll sign it. What's your name?" "Geraldo Rivera" LMAO
She's out of his League - in fact, he embodies all the egotistical qualities of "Hollywood" she shunned - Phil should have done his Homework & left his "clever Showbiz Tricks" at home. He's right up there with Dr. Phil - bleeech!!
For all his phony piousness, Donahue shows his true colors with the name thing. The only interview to beat this one was Ayn Rand’s imo. She really checked him multiple times in both segments.
Phil Donahue trying, aggressively, to dig dirt. I'm glad she called him "childish." I think Donahue was envious of Spencer, And flummoxed by her rationality. He is really pretty obnoxious.
Compare this interview to the Clive James one. Very different approach and result. She's still the same marvellous woman in both but the men are almost polar opposites. Interesting.

I thought this was a terrible interview. Thought he was very rude to her. She should have stopped the interview. She didn’t need to sit and listen to his ridicule. He was so very disrespectful. She is a wonderful lady. I just love, her. She is so very honest and funny!
Wonderful lady, her plain talking is great
Phil had his highpoints for sure, this interview with a living legend was absolutely not one of them.
Always a gracious and beautiful lady ❤
He is so fucking rude and condescending. I’m surprised she didn’t ask him to leave.
I love her. Shes fabulous. I wish I knew her.
Thanks for posting this
A real interesting interview, Donahue asked interesting questions, that most interviewers don't do,enjoyed her movies, think she was a good actress, she had true liberal democratic political beliefs, not surprising Hollywood or Hollyweird is very political (liberal )and expects that adherence of it's actors and actresses.
I swear Donahue's Ego made me so upset. I'm glad that Kate could see his atrocious behaviour coming.
I agree she could see his ego coming. Horrible interview.
Her last word said it all at 43:29. What a horrifically odd interview she was subjected to by him.
That makes me laugh so hard
She was a wonderful actress, her body of work is amazing. I loved her in Guess Who's Coming To Dinner. She also was an opinionated, strong person. I really believe not an easy person to get along with. I don't think she ever got married. Jane Fonda does not have fond memory of hers when they made 'On Golden Pond'. By the way, Jane makes a great impersonation of hers.
I respect Katherine 100 percent! She speaks truth in Volumnes! Love you mam! Hope to meet you in the Afterlife! 🙏🏼🫶🏼🙏🏼
Katherine I could have been your buddy! Good, bad, annoying, and much Love! You are amazing and tough! LOL
Independent and yet totally devoted to someone who needed her perhaps more than she needed him. Quite a paradox.
She really became humble and more under standing then.days she was Dick Cavett show in the early seventies.
Enjoyed this so much 💜🌈
24:15 Boom!! WELL SAID, KATHERINE!
She'd be pissed on your misspelling of KathArine!
Love her. Ahead of her time, always!
I can’t wait to be Katharine Hepburn(ish)! ;)
This interview was enjoyable.
The best actor man or woman to ever be in the lights ever...
i haven't heard of her, but i have heard of Audrey Hepburn.....was it a cousin?
@@dabneyoffermein595 no..not related
@@cindyswift8455 ok, thank you, what are the odds, wow.
Shes fun shes bloody hilarious and i love her style sleep well KH
How Donahue ever became as popular as he did, I have absolutely no idea. He had the personality of a wet mop, and even less tact. Like, dude, what's with the yelling? She's sitting less than a foot away from you.
The end was hilarious though.
"Okay, I'll sign it. What's your name?"
"Geraldo Rivera"
LMAO
Why did he get in her face and yell at her? He came off as downright hostile.
"Katharine", not Katherine.
KathArine, but thank you so much for posting!
I grow so much respect for her after watching this. I did not like her much before, but this interview changed my opinion about her.
She was so smart, ahead of her time☘️
I rewatch this sometimes to laugh at the part when she calls him childish 😭 24:16
I so LOVE ms Hepburn ❤️
He is so rude, and not fit to shine KH's shoes. I'm amazed she didn't walk out.
Why was he yelling at her?
Shouting makes his points seem bigger. :)
He had the nerve to roll his eyes at her after he asked such rude questions!
He is a dreadful interviewer. Interrogating her like a judge. She is glorious. She has wonderful and interesting opinions.
This woman has been my absolute favorite actress & woman I look up to & emulate gives Phil a "run for his money" !!
A great lady
She's out of his League - in fact, he embodies all the egotistical qualities of "Hollywood" she shunned - Phil should have done his Homework & left his "clever Showbiz Tricks" at home. He's right up there with Dr. Phil - bleeech!!
SOUND IS WAY TOOO LOW CAN BARELY HEAR
For all his phony piousness, Donahue shows his true colors with the name thing. The only interview to beat this one was Ayn Rand’s imo. She really checked him multiple times in both segments.
she should have told that "donass" get the hell out of my house!!!!!
Phil Donahue trying, aggressively, to dig dirt. I'm glad she called him "childish." I think Donahue was envious of Spencer, And flummoxed by her rationality. He is really pretty obnoxious.
interesting to see him so hurt. as if 'Phil Donahue' is anyone compared to the people Kathrine had met.
Compare this interview to the Clive James one. Very different approach and result. She's still the same marvellous woman in both but the men are almost polar opposites. Interesting.
I love how she says why don't they look at the children who don't have anything who don't have any support who don't have any food. But these anti-choice people just want to control they don't want to help
"And what's your name?" Savage.
Ms. Hepburn was not a television watcher...
@@randysills4418 She knew who he was. She would have never agreed to be interviewed by him in such length if she didn't. She was just being coy and keeping him in check.
Ugh! He was so angry & judgmental I don't know how she kept from walking out of the room - other than the fact that she seemed utterly amused at his shock & awe over her life choices.
She's kinda amazing! So real!
Read her book "ME" when it first came out. Its as interesting as she is. Clearly there are FAR better Interviews than this one - Dick Cavett being one of them. Not much change in her outlooks from then till this one.
Was there ever a worst interviewer than Phil Donahue?
Yes: Skippy E. Lowe was the worst ever
This is best interview I've ever seen Donahue give. I usually didn't like his interviews, all the interruptions. But here I think the flow is good. Clearly they're enjoying one another, the banter, the faux offenses. They're both absolutely adorable here.
@John JACOBS Right, quite the opposite. Listen to her at the end, she's quite taken with him and offers to work for him.
@@damianop100 Agreed. Sometimes the most challenging interviewers are the best at bringing out interesting colours and shades; there certainly is a difference between an antagonistic and a challenging interviewer.
@John JACOBS She was a tough cookie throughout her life. Notoriously so. Stood up to the executives. Donahue's just a kid to her.
I dont think his questions were impolite, on the contrary they are logical but his character , his style and the way he says things is very insulting, and irritating no wonder she snapped and felt threatened . You see thats what makes a difference between a bad interviewer and a legendary one, between just plain stupid and sharp wit ,the way you put words together accompanied by a perfect attitude.
Yes Kate Hepburn ever interview
The audio could be louder.
20:25 ... i wonder if she knew how pathetic the interviewer would be, same time I wonder if he knows how pathetic and ordinary the common audience is when it comes to partnerships, so that he formed his point of view according to a general public being attached to a broad opinion what is "normal".... it's so strange to attend this interview with Katharine Hep being so cool and down to the ground even with facing the most stubborn questions.....
If she had been younger she would have eaten this jerk for lunch!! Donahue was just too harsh at times.
Ten mins in and I'm depressed.
I wonder what Ms Hepburn would say about the political divide towards women reproductive rights today in 2024.
