To Hepburn, Tracy was a god among actors. He invented a new way of film acting. Scores of actos in movies were in awe of him. Hepburn endured a lot with Tracy--his drunken benders came on suddenly and it was impossible to stop him. He was physically violent towards Hepburn when he was very drunk. The great athlete she was, she could not overpower him. Her one desire (she took five years off from her career) was to see Spencer act for the camera one more time. When his friend Stanley Kramer offered him the lead in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? Tracey more or less accepted the part. But the day before shooting commenced, Tracy did what he always did in the last twenty years or so in his life--he wanted to back off the project. Their relationship was far from perfect but it taught me so thing very important, and that's to never settle for anything but the truest form of love I can find when it comes to romance. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner was one of my favorite - you could really see the connection between those two. I just loved watching both of them together.
Katharine Hepburn was intensely private. She was not one to give interviews and those given were for the most part short and we're specific in their content. She seemed to open up in her later years being more available to people who wanted to know about her, her career etc... I find this fascinating that she is sharing what I consider some of her most private thoughts regarding Spencer Tracy. Interesting yet terribly sad, you can hear it in her voice.
I think she realized how beloved she was after she agreed to do The Dick Cavett 3 hr 2 part interview in 1973. She had people bowing to her in the streets shouting I love you Kate! out of bus & apartment windows. She phoned DC and was stunned and shocked at how many people it touched after part 1 aired. She was intially supposed to do a scheduled interview but suddenly said at the test run 'oh hell let's just do it now that I'm here'. She was uneasy about doing TV interviews had never agreed to any offers said she would never do one. On DC Show admitted she was always nervous wary to try new things even though she craved moving constantly forward in life....and did. At end of part 2 she said she had to admit she was glad she had done it and had enjoyed it. That is my favourite of all her interviews. She was 66 yrs old very energetic enthusiastic about life. What a great influence for many not just artists...as was Bette Davis.
That's because she was a voracious lesbian that ordered a different young, brunette by preference, starlet to bed every night. A destroyer of young women. - She "bearded" it with Tracy. Again, great performance. She was a great actress but a miserable, narcissist. No wonder she named her autobiography "Me".

Alcoholics often suffer from anxiety disorder. Insomnia and depression are symptoms of the disorder. As a child, Spencer Tracey was hyperactive and had problems concentrating in school. Perhaps, ADHD was a root cause of whatever it was about Tracey that made "living not easy" for him. I was sorry to learn that Tracey was a tormented man. Alcoholics often battle demons of self-loathing, anxiety, guilt, etc., and their relationship does seem to have some codependent elements. Nevertheless, their apparent love for each other lasted not only the 26 years they were together, but another 36 after he died. She wrote this letter 18 years after his death, reportedly kept the cup that had broken when he dropped dead of a heart attack in her kitchen, spoke about their relationship in her autobiography, and was surrounded by photographs of him when she died. RIP Spence and Kate ...
This two are my favorite couple. I miss them both. Together and apart. It is sad, to freemen remember those we have lost. Yet it is only in the flesh because we have them with us always. With this two their films remain, utube, the voices. I appreciate hearing her speak. When I was in cosmetologist school, I was older. In my 2 marriage not going well enrolled, husband going thru mental breakdown, Daughter on drugs, raising then a two year old grandson. We were posed a question in class who did we admire. I spoke of Katherine because of her faithfulness, her stubbornness because she lived what shebelieved. Her dress, her swims, her devotion. Yes such a woman tolook up to.
I know for a fact that all the true love you can't gather here on earth and all the beautiful promises you couldn't fulfill, are meant to be met for the other world.. I know this : Spence and Kate and together since 2003, I know it for a belief :") 💙

Oh my , I should never have found this one. Such wonderful love from one human to another. I can only hope I have given my sweetpea the devotion to love me as much as Kate did Spencer. I know I have though, I see it everyday in her smile and eye's. To cast one's heart upon a river, to see one's heart set to quiver. I cast myself to the sea always knowing you will be with me. This was wonderful. Such a letter, So Katharine. May we never see devotion like this die, ever.
How incredibly impressed with Spencer, Kate was. That is saying a lot because Kate acted with many of the all-time great lead men and likely conversed at length with and knew well a good number of them; however none made such an indelible impression on her as Mr.Tracy did. One can hear in her voice and see in her countenance that Spencer somehow mesmerized her with both his nonpareil acting skills and humanity, much of which she clearly found magnetic and alluring but also inscrutable and distant. Tracy, Cagney, Stewart, Bogart, Wayne, Cooper, Flynn, Gable et al: When Giants walked the earth. We shan't see their like again
she said it all,i fight and endure life,i love it, spence got to play out life as a brilliant actor on screen, just could not do the same, in a real living life.
I cried the whole way through watching this. I’ve never seen an actor be this vulnerable in front of the camera when they aren’t acting. Tremendous woman. One of the greatest of all time
I think this shows she was still deeply in love and missing him terribly even after he was gone 18 years, but not that she was "consumed" by him. She was first and always very independent, had her own identity, and was very much her own person.
It was said she took a sculpture of him she created to all the places she stayed. She did a beautiful job creating it. It looked just like him. I have a sculpture I did of my deceased sister that means a lot to me . It won first place in an Art Show. But since I'm not famous ....it will probably be thrown in the garbage after my death. I wish someone would cherish it as much as I do....She was blessed.
If there could ever be a time machine and there would ever be anything as an alterate or a parallel or a third world whatever it is.. I'd like, oh I'd very much WOULD love to unite kate and Spence together. A world where they'd be together, till the end.
I first read this letter in her autobiography. Then I heard it, in her own voice, on her self-narrated audiobook and again in this video. It was heartbreaking each and every time.
If you knew nothing about Kate and Spencer, you knew something was going on between the two on "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" In Kate Remembered, she talked about how the entire cast did everything they could not to break down in tears. I think the only time I cried at any of her movies was On Golden Pond when she told Henry Fonda he was her knight in shining armor. Spencer was her knight in shining armor..
For such a private woman sharing this letter must've been very important to her.
That is pure love from the harti

Yes such a woman tolook up to.
very moving, love Kate and Spencer, thanks for sharing !
I know for a fact that all the true love you can't gather here on earth and all the beautiful promises you couldn't fulfill, are meant to be met for the other world.. I know this : Spence and Kate and together since 2003, I know it for a belief :") 💙
Her just sharing this all . A woman who loved another man beyond all time. Katherine did this. Imagine someone loving you this much.?
oh wow... i can't stop crying.... i hope her and spencer r happy and together wherever they r....
She was so beautiful, all her life
That was so beautiful.
I'm in tears because ? Yes she's gone but it must took the love she had and have for him and that she missed him so dearly. They both was the best of Hollywood no one is close ? Just watch their movie's. Gone but never forgotten never Ma & Pa. I feel them ❤️
Yes yes Katherine Hepburn was a true friend of Mr Tracy and I'm sure of the love and mutual respect for each other was unwavering...Her open letter to Spence was quite warm and heartfelt...Especially letting everyone know how she felt about his troubled life and now deep sleep...Very much a fan if both Kate & Spence with love and respect I give thanks for both entertainers life in show business... Thank for Everything R.I.P. ...
Oh my , I should never have found this one. Such wonderful love from one human to another. I can only hope I have
given my sweetpea the devotion to love me as much as Kate did Spencer. I know I have though, I see it everyday in her smile and eye's. To cast one's heart upon a river, to see one's heart set to quiver. I cast myself to the sea always knowing you will be with me.
This was wonderful. Such a letter, So Katharine. May we never see devotion like this die, ever.
Awe this was so Tender & Special... She really Loved him & was Devoted to Spence! My only Hope is they are Happy, & together again ❤️❤️❤️
True love. What a heartwarming, and..heartbreaking idea to write the love of your life a letter after their death. Kate IS great.
Her Eulogy for him..... Tender and touching.....
that took my breath away....
Thank you Katherine, bless you both so much. xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
3 years later and I am back - watching this again
I hope to be able to one day posses the clarity, insightful, and wisdom to evaulate the love of my life as articulately as Ms. Hepburn.
I think you'd be surprised how many young people love classic movies :) I wish more youth were interested in them though.
she said it all,i fight and endure life,i love it, spence got to play out life as a brilliant actor on screen, just could not do the same, in a real living life.
Seems I watched this four years ago and reaction is just the same.. Hepburn has all the feels bubbling away by the end of this.
this gets me every time. Thanx for keeping it up
Kate read it in such sorrow it seemed
Katie made me cry. I can't stand it. I love her so much and can't stand to see her cry - and now I'm bawling.
So powerful.
The last part always brings my soul to tears.
Heart-breaking.
Lovely. Reminds me of Richard Feynman’s letter to his long dead first wife. Heart tugging.
What a lovely couple, Katie was a lovely person rip both of you there love was majestic
How heartbreaking! Isn’t it sad that we live within our own personal Hell when life should be paradise?
this is simply too... touching... heart-rending.
What an interesting, intelligent and open woamn. R.I.P.
I cried the whole way through watching this. I’ve never seen an actor be this vulnerable in front of the camera when they aren’t acting. Tremendous woman. One of the greatest of all time
That is a woman in love. 18 years after and still she is consumed by him. Lovely and tragic all at once.
I think this shows she was still deeply in love and missing him terribly even after he was gone 18 years, but not that she was "consumed" by him. She was first and always very independent, had her own identity, and was very much her own person.
@@vi2623 Speaking metaphorically not literally. Typical feminist response. 🙄
This is heartbreaking...It's obvious that she truly loved him regardless of whether or not he was married
I wish someone would cherish it as much as I do....She was blessed.
yeah I've seen that sculpture..she did a good.
He was the Hemingway of acting... simple on the surface, but so deep...I hope they are together now in love and peace
I was crying all th awy from the begining ..i hope i love someone like she loved him one day .
I cried listening to that letter..
Very touching
brings tears to my eyes....
A great Star loved a Great Star.
What a beautiful moving honest testament to love,Kate you are beautiful both within and without. x
Es tan hermoso que viendola siento lo que es un gran Amor , merçii ... es todo sentimiento
