This really gave me hope for my child who has Autism. His food aversions and SPD have been increasingly challenged over the past year, causing him to remain the same in weight. We’re currently trying to expand on the foods he does like and he begins ABA soon. Thank you for showcasing this amazing young boys accomplishments!!!

I couldn’t do it them screaming and acting like they’re possessed to biting to biting others to being very smart and understanding right from wrong when they want something but can’t do certain tasks it’s over their heads. The best thing I can describe it is like a grown adult with the mentality of a four-year-old but the strength of Superman. I am blessed that I won’t have to deal with this cause I couldn’t do it. All my life. I can’t comprehend how they try to put all the food in their mouth’s with no comprehension of choking or dying it is fascinating though to study about the low autism spectrum..I have friends with trades of autism my cousin has traits of autism and grew up to be very successful. Lower autism I don’t really know if they’ll ever truly be able to be on their own if they can’t eat properly or even go to the bathroom properly I think that they will constantly need supervision but maybe not all things but most things. My heart goes out to all the family members that I have to deal with the tantrums they destroyed homes it’s no easy task that is for sure.

My son is nearly 8. He isn't diagnosed with autism. But his eating is getting worse. What surprised me is that the McDonald's chicken nuggs were also one of the only things he ate. But as he's getting older he won't even eat them, only the skin around them.
Is it possible for him to have mild autism perhaps? Or perhaps autism that's coming more prominent with age? This might seem like I'm jumping to conclusions conclusions just because I've watch a video of an autistic child eating only chicken nuggets however it's more than that.
I did notice things when he was 2 - 4 years old where I thought maybe he might be on the spectrum. He would do certain things with his eyes where he would put them to the top of his head and kind of freeze standing still. But it only happened very rarely and it seemed his mum might not have noticed it perhaps because she never mentioned it. . I suggested autism to his mum and I got a harsh response from her asif I should never have suggested this and that I wrong to suggest this.
But of course I suggested it for his benifit. He lives with his mum so somtimes it's hard for me to implement things. Anyway I've not seen him do the thing with his eyes for a year or 2 now.... . But over those last 2 years (even though I don't notice so much the things I noticed initially...) His eating has got poor from what was a decent balanced diet . Hence only chicken nuggets and a select few others.
Now though.... In the last few month it's just the skin on the nuggets he will eat... I'm wondering if perhaps I should suggest again regarding autism possibility? Despite being afraid of being slapped on the wrist by his mum for suggesting it again?
Thanks in advance. And any opinion greatful

I want to add that apparently he eats okay at school though. So if it was autism would he not be the same outside of school? Also I have him for the school holidays so is im looking at working on his eating there. As I say I do t have much control over the situation currently as his mum has him generally and therefore difficult for me to impliment or suggest.
If course I will try this method. But also is it worth me video recording him also? Incase of needing to use the video as evidence for incase a doctor might want to see? Also should I make sure he soesmt know he is being videoed? As this might hinder how he acts?
Or maybe I should try both... Secretly videoing and then afterwards make him aware that he is videod.
Also considering that he apparently ears okay at school is it worth me then considering to make tell him that I'm videoing him because the school has asked me to? (even though this wouldn't be true) but maybe it will show a different in his eating behaviour depending on who he thinks will be seeing the video?
I think I want to try all three stages. Filming him eating generally, then making him aware he's on film. And then telling him the filming is for his school or teacher to observe.
However does this seem extreme? Again I'm interested in people's advice and if they think this is a good idea to judge the psychology behind his eating?

Can somone explain what they did here? It seems to miss out the middle part about what they actually did to get him to eat the yogurt. Did they entice him with candy or with a tuna sandwich. Or are they saying they went fed him to eat yogurt and tuna sandwich by using the candy? . I'm a little confused. Thankyou

He wouldn't eat anything but specific things including candy/chocolate so the mom used a piece of the candy as a reinforcer or "reward" after he had a bite of regular food that he didn't wanna eat. On the second clip the reinforcer or "reward" went from being a piece of candy to yogurt because he really likes yogurt so he had eaten a tuna sandwich and was shown eating the yogurt

Shame on the mother for just giving in and feeding the child what he or she wants so they can avoid the tantrums. When you have a child with autism you have to be a super parent. Get them in schools therapy keep them busy make sure you have a strict routine so that they are comfortable. McDonald’s even for a normal child is not healthy I feel for this child because clearly some parents aren’t educated enough to deal properly with their child with autism.

Kids with autism shouldn’t be forced to act like any other child because they aren’t. They should be given the accomodations they need, and if you don’t want to treat your autistic child with respect and accomodate for them, then don’t have kids. Autistic people are disabled and should be accomodated for just like any other disabled person.

@@abcde_ghijklmnopqrstuvwyxz2188 parents with children without autistic children still put children on a strict routine because it’s easier to adapt not just because you’re autistic. What about the children that go to daycare or receive a meal plan at school? Those programs give all of the children the same meal unless there’s some allergy or religion reasoning that says otherwise. So for a children who cannot comprehend this vs the next child who can how are you suppose to explain that concept if they can’t understand? You introduce this behaviour it’s the way of life just like everyone else. Some children don’t understand what’s good for them or not. You still have to eat it because kids with asd with literally starve themselves until they collapse. You want to be treated the same and this is way that children function in society because it’s easier. Sounds like you want children to be a choking hazard.
