    I have a 4yo Autistic toddler. He eats about roughly five things and not healthy as well. He also has become very reliant on me feeding him as he doesnt like the texture of many foods and getting dirty and the reality is if I did not feed him, he is quite happy to starve as well. I have been going thru our govt for help because I cannot afford private care & last time they set up a playgroup for Autstic kids to know what services I needed I specifically asked about feeding therapy & they took one look at him & said he looked fine cause he wasnt extremely skinny or anything. Yet are they saying I should keep feeding him into adulthood, hes only an acceptable weight cause I feed hm & we only give him things we kno he will eat. Found ur video helpful & want to find out more of what I can do to support his eating skills

      My son is four as well- will only drink toddler formula from a bottle and eat yogurt. I have an 8 month wait to start intensive feeding therapy. It’s so frustrating that I can’t seem to have any breakthroughs with feeding.

    My step daughter went to CHOP in Philadelphia; she went in at 6.5 yrs old and had spent the first 6.5 years drinking out of a baby bottle. She is extremely high functioning autistic with Oral and food aversions. She came in with a 6 month old oral development. She is now 7.5 yrs old, off her bottles(7months now) Self feeding, Puréed consistency only and is starting to “chew” on t sticks and a mesh bag.

      @@tupacswife4461 I’m sorry that you are going through this! Please do not give up on your little one!! My SD is now 9 and has not progressed from purées due to her not getting the right kind or enough OT for her oral aversion. She lost (cognitive) control of her tongue because she was given baby bottles for so long that gravity fed. She just learned how to make a suckle to be able to drink from a straw.

    Soo thankful you created this video ! I watched it back in August 2022 got the evaluation in October 2022 started program end of December 2022 at Marcus Autism Center. My daughter is 2 yrs. old and although not on the spectrum she went two years with out eating any foods only my breast milk! We had to get the gtube in November 2022 and she was in OT feeding therapy and little to no progress. We are in the second month of the program and our baby girls is eating a leveled spoon of 12 different foods all including a protein,starch,vegetable, and fruit we are soo grateful! And thank you for making this video it really helped me!

    Thank you so much for sharing! I have my daughter on so many waiting lists for feeding therapy.. we have made some progress on our own. I have no training in this but I just decided to try and meet my daughter where she is at... she was having so much trouble w actually chewing. Eye contact is also an issue.. so I got a bean bag chair that sits lower than her highchair. This made it so she could watch me eat/ chew my food w out her having to look up... I sit w her and tell her it's time to turn into a train and we practice our "choo choo" (chew chew) and believe it or not this actually helped her so much! But what she will eat is still very limited so hopefully when she gets into the feeding therapy she will be able to eat more types of food. Thank you again for this video! ❤

    Im in the UK so Im not sure if they offer feeding therapy but I have a non verbal 2 year old autistic daughter and for the last 4 weeks shes not been eating hardly at all, its so worrying as a parent because Im thinking shes not getting enough of what she needs. Taking her to the doctors soon see what they say about it. Watching this has comforted me in lots of ways, knowing that I am not alone 💜

    Yes... I can totally understand that positive reinforcement. "Rewards"... I feel you!
    We are set to start a feeding program for the 1st time in a couple weeks. Its one day a week. So I assume they will be be educating me (as they should) to implement the techniques at home.
    My question is this.. Do they check for possible underlying medical conditions? And are they taking into consideration the very real sensory issues?
    Im very nervous about this new journey!

    • @AutismMomandTravel
      @AutismMomandTravel  2 роки тому

      They don’t check for underlying conditions, they go based off the medical history you have provided from his doctors. They do take sensory into consideration but when it comes to breaking them into swallowing the food. That goes out of the window. I take that back sensory is not considered when trying to get your child to eat a variety of food. 💙💙

    We are just beginning to learn about feeding programs and what’s the best way to go about getting our daughter the help she needs. My question is with the amount of time devoted to all of this therapy how were you able to balance work and mon-fri 8 hours of therapy. Of course we want what’s best for her, however we also have to keep a roof over our heads. Just wondering how you were able to deal with this situation?

      I worked the night shift and went after work but I also met parents who took FMLA on behalf of their child to get those days off. They requested a letter from the center with dates and times and we’re approved for FMLA. I hope this is an option for you 🥰🥰

    My daughter is 1.6 year old and she is not taking solids other than very runny purees and smooth purees sweet and salty both but she only takes purees and doesn’t take any hard or semi solid pieces in her mouth. I started giving her purees when she was 6 month old till now she is not taking anything. Tried to transition her to semi solids and finger foods but she vomits or rejects everything. She can stays hungry for 6 hours easily that is why I have ti give her puree so she could eat something at least. She has not taken bottle milk as well so she was on breast milk solely. Now I need any advice or guidance what approach should I take as I don’t have any facility of special health care personal for this specific problem here in Pakistan. She is perfectly normal kid but transitioning is quite difficult for me. Should I completely skip purees and give her semi solid things or should I wait until she grows older and able to understand she has 4 teeth in upper jaw and 4 teeth in lower jaw. Can anyone help me please. I don’t want her weight to drop as she is 11.9 kg right now. And on and off have cough and flu seasonal. Please some one guide me as I have left her hungry in the morning and she did not even touch the food for straight 4 hours then I have to feed her pureed food again .
