Such bias. 1. This is a synthetic form they give, 2. Where are these being manufactured? Most are produced in China, 3. What preservatives are in them? Is there contamination? A lot of unanswered questions, also the risk is less than 1% of births.
Its not that i disagree but babies have been born for thousands of years without vitamin k injections. I always thought of childbirth as a complete self sufficient process. Im not arguing but it just doesn't make sense to me.
I agree, this cannot be whole story. All babies cannot be naturally deficient of something that they need to survive, it doesn't make sense in nature. It seems to make sense what she says and she seems to believe it. But people don't consider that scientific studies that receive funds are mostly the ones that make money for corporations, so the lack of contrarian studies doesn't mean that there are no risks, it may mean that the studies were not funded or the scientist didn't want to ruin their career. Let's also remember that doctors are unlikely to put medications as the cause of death unless it happens straight after injection. This leaves people with an imbalance of information.

My fourth baby (girl born 2022,38wks) i chose not to give vitamin k, showed up to all our doctor appointments for her and she never had issues but each parent needs to really research and know what you are accepting or rejecting. Lots of love

That’s not factual. The medication you’re talking about that looks like Vaseline is erythromycin eye ointment and one of the three things offered for babies at birth. I have a video on erythromycin as well. The vitamin k shot became standard practice in 1961, so 1960 standards would include vitamin k. You might be confusing vitamin k (a vitamin) with vaccines as they are not the same and its vaccines where you get multiple shots on a schedule to protect against diseases. You may want to chat with your baby’s pediatrician or your own provider for more info to make sure you have clear info before making all your choices. And as for the cost I really couldn’t say. I’m in Canada so it might differ from the US. I bet you would be able to find out with some questions or some digging ♥️

In germany babys get vitamin k orally, at least 2 or 3 times. The first time right after giving birth. After that they get it from the pediatritian. Every child has to get so called "U-examinations" which are basically obligatory check ups and that is where most of the Kids get their shots and of course vitamin k
Yes the oral vitamin K is much more common over in Europe than in North America. We have checkups like that here in canada too, they are called well child visits! The problem is not all parents will attend these scheduled visits and then its an opportunity for the scheduled vitamin K to be missed and then it is less effective 😔

My baby did get sever jaundice. Then I read it was a side effect of the vitamin K shot. I was in the hospital for 4 days. And back and fourth for several days after to check on baby. It was stressful and exhausting
Im so sorry that happened. It’s also a risk of delayed cord clamping. And can happen with newborns in general as they wait for milk to transition and start peeing and pooping more. It would have been great if our society supported parents who are not willing to expose their children to unnecessary medical interventions because of the risks associated with it. But instead only one mindset is supported and if you do not get on that bandwagon you are left on your own.
My OB knew I have a thing about vaccines and he brought up aluminum before I even said anything and let me know that if I am really worried about aluminum then I should know that you consume aluminum when you drink soda. Which I thought was interesting and not something I ever thought about. My OB doctor was great though and always let me know of risks even if rare because he knew how important it was for me to make as best of a educate decision that I could for my son. All babies are deficient in vit K . I think that our bodies are the perfect creation and we have everything we need to survive. Maybe SOME BABIES are deficient in vit K and more depending of what the mother ate during her pregnancy. And yes the babies cannot eat a salad, but the babies take all the nutrients from the mother when they are in her womb. Our bodies are not perfect creation because our bodies are products of Evolution, which can only compromise based on opposing goals and existing structures. For example, babies’ heads are large but women have unusually small pelvises for a mammal due to bipedalism. Therefore humans are all born relatively prematurely compared to other mammals. Horses can ambulate the day they are born, but humans take one YEAR post birth to walk. This vulnerability is hardly “perfect,” but perfectly demonstrates compromise that nature makes via natural selection for both a large brain and an upright posture for the Homo. That is just one example among hundreds of how our bodies are anything but perfect. Part of that “imperfection” is being born w vitamin K deficiency, but guess what, a cheap and easy modern intervention solves that problem for pennies a baby. Guess what, having to share a planet w harmful micro-organisms is another “imperfection.” They want to use you as food and shelter and raw material. It’s not their fault. But if you want to not let them eat you, get all the routine childhood vaccines. It’s really, really dumb to get paralyzed due to polio these days.

I think the better way to look at it is that it shouldn't be called a deficiency if ALL babies are born like this. Their lack of vitamin K may just be the RIGHT way for them to enter the world. Sure no babies have had allergic reactions and died from a sudden and unnatural dump of vitK but did anyone bother to research the advantages to not having this vitamin? That's the question I have. We don't call babies preborn just because we've learned that many develop colic from struggling to life outside the womb. Researchers even call the first 3 months the 4th trimester, since the brain isn't fully developed to function well independently. But wouldn't it be STUPID for the response to colic be to claim that ALL babies are born too soon and make it standard to keep them in an incubator for another 3 months??? Because there actually is a very good natural reason they are born at the stage they are. I'm inclined to believe the same is true for the vitK and perhaps we are interfering with something important by just shooting them up with it seconds after they enter the world.
Most countries (UK, Europe) do oral or injectable. We opted to do oral for our 2nd, injectable with our first (vacuum used at delivery). We discussed both with our doctor.
I am someone who is not into getting vaccines for my children, but I have a husband who really wants our baby boy to be circumcised. Therefore, if my baby is a boy, I'm going to get the vitamin k injection so that circumcision can happen within the 12 days that the pediatrician is going to do it. This video is very reassuring, and even though if my baby is a girl I will not be getting the injection, I'm very glad to have this information.
I've read that in a group with Vit AK shot 1 in 100k babies will develop bleed vs 4-7 in 100k without shot will have issues. The difference is 6 babies per 100k births.

Can you explain to me what a "normal" country is. I am actually genuinely curious which ones you are referring to. I am guessing the UK? They do have some amazing things in place for pregnant individuals and postpartum families that I really do like! Sadly though by the time you have watched the baby for a whole week with them having deficient levels of Vitamin K for that entirety it will be too late for some babies who will have already developed Vitamin K deficiency bleeding.
I'm guessing you've not had children of your own... no mother I know would want to stay in hospital for a whole week. Yikes! If I knew baby and I would be sick there for a whole week "just in case", I would deliver at home (which certainly isn't in mine or baby's best interest).
We focus on getting people out of hospitals as soon as possible. This is for many reasons. Yes some are financial (saves $). But more time in the hospital does no translate to better outcomes: you are at risk of hospital acquired infections. Remember the hospital is where we send the sickest of the sick. Even if you are on a separate floor or building, there are people who have to move between locations and thus no area is truly isolated. We often see cheaper and more standardized approaches to common health care issues results in better outcomes. Vitamin K is cheap and safe. A brain bleed is expensive and potentially deadly. By observing for a brain bleed would serve no one’s interest: you are just waiting for a problem to occur and not preventing it.
And pray tell if the first presentation of hemorrhagic disease of the newborn is a brain bleed which could have been prevented by a Vit K shot, which is proven to reduce bleeding risk by 80 FOLD, then what? The risk continues for 6 months. What’s watching baby for 1 week gonna do? Parents who refuse vitamin K at birth are morons. If they don’t want hep B vac (provided mom is neg) or erythro or even newborn screen, fine. Get the damn Vitamin K shot.
The baby must be able to get vitamin K from the mother. If the baby can't then that is a result of the mother's diet. Humans have been around a lot longer than vitamin K shots.
And they used to die at an incredibly high rate. We can’t say humans have been around a lot longer than vitamin k shots and not mention that the death rate for babies was high. And as mentioned in the video it doesn’t transfer in high enough rates through breast milk so increasing it in the mothers diet doesn’t translate to high vitamin k for babies. And it doesn’t cross the placenta in therapeutic doses.
@@mamanursetina The deaths were caused by malnutrition. Phylloquinone, the form found in the injection doesn't transfer in high enough rates because phylloquinone is not very active. That is from vegetables and a diet deficient in animal sources of vitamin K would have the same problem. The mother's diet should be rich in menatetranone from things like egg yolks, chicken liver, beef liver. Giving an injection of phylloquinone which is impure is not only inferior to menatetrenone and unnecessary with a proper diet, but has the potential to do harm due to do the impurity of other substances in the injection.

My kids got vitamin orally, I think it was three times in a shirt period after the birth. We live in Austria. I didn't even think about not allowing it. They needed it, they got it.
So you will have to take in information and make decisions on what you think is best for your baby. The recommendation is yes, vitamin K for babies within 6 hours of birth. But no one can force you to do anything you dont want to, you simply have to ensure you have all the information you need to make an informed choice :)

We have stats for the benifits and that is great but we don't have proper information for the risks. What is interesting to me is that since vitamin K isnt a vaccine it's a medicine, it doesn't have the same standards as a vaccine or studies. Sure it makes sense that the drop form of Vit K is less effective in what ever dose was measured but what if more of a dose was administered more frequently...
It is good to critically think about things like this for sure. The oral vitamin K route is better than none. The issue, I believe, has to do with the absorption, storage, and how regimented the parents will be at the follow up dosing (because oral requires more than one dose where the injection is one time). The brilliant thing about the injection is its one time, stored in their body to be released over the next 6 months. I don't have a specific answer to your question however :)
Vitamin K injection for newborns are basically risk-free. I admit babies all the time. Inpatient peds is 100% what I do. Times I’ve seen babies come to the hospital w a bad effect from Vitamin K? Zero. And I see a lot of rare diseases of childhood in the hospital. And yes I have seen many cases of catastrophic pediatric strokes unfortunately.

Vit K = no brainer: give it! I have seen too many infants with spontaneous brain bleeds; for my baby, Vitamin K for the win. The risk of complications due to vitamin K is low. The relative risk assessment makes the decision for me easy. Unfortunately, risk assessment by the general public is poor. People over estimate these small risks and under estimate other risks that are actually higher (like risk of bleeding without vitamin K). The modern age problem: everyone is a “google” expert and wants to do their “own research”. My question to ask yourself are you really qualified to adequately do this work? In the medical field we have multiple years of training, testing, and real work experience to go against “standard of care” therapy? For those who bristle at the thought of “one size fits all” recommendations: we see more harm when there is more variation on medical therapies. We see better outcomes when therapy is standardized. As a pediatrician, I would argue you have to have a very high bar to go against the standard of care therapies. We all want to get to the same outcome = a healthy + happy baby. But negligence by parental choice is a thing (just as it can be by a health provider). I think the last thing a caring parent wants to do is make a harmful choice for their child.
Thank you for your professional (and parental) input. Social media has been so helpful in some aspects by allowing people to be exposed to more information easier. But I feel like taking information point blank can be very harmful. IMO people should take the information they see and hear to the provider managing their specific care and use it as a point of discussion. Vitamin K is the one thing I wouldn't skip for my babies but it is the one injection that has so so much misinformation about it out there.

Every child has to get so called "U-examinations" which are basically obligatory check ups and that is where most of the Kids get their shots and of course vitamin k
Yes the oral vitamin K is much more common over in Europe than in North America. We have checkups like that here in canada too, they are called well child visits! The problem is not all parents will attend these scheduled visits and then its an opportunity for the scheduled vitamin K to be missed and then it is less effective 😔

My baby did get sever jaundice. Then I read it was a side effect of the vitamin K shot. I was in the hospital for 4 days. And back and fourth for several days after to check on baby. It was stressful and exhausting
Im so sorry that happened. It’s also a risk of delayed cord clamping. And can happen with newborns in general as they wait for milk to transition and start peeing and pooping more. It’s important to remember that causation and correlation aren’t the same and it can be hard to pin down exactly why the jaundice happened ♥️ either way I’m so sorry that it happened for you and baby

I still regret the vitamin k. They will not get any shots. I just can’t do it. I’d hate to have my babies have a reaction.
Omg that happened to my son too. He ended up with jaundice we stayed 5 days in the hospital.
There are a lot more ingredients than just Vitamin K. Look up the actual ingredients!!

My OB knew I have a thing about vaccines and he brought up aluminum before I even said anything and let me know that if I am really worried about aluminum then I should know that you consume aluminum when you drink soda. Which I thought was interesting and not something I ever thought about. My OB doctor was great though and always let me know of risks even if rare because he knew how important it was for me to make as best of a educate decision that I could for my son. I even thought about doing the oral Vit. K but decided the risk was just too great for me to take over a Vitamin.
All babies are deficient in vit K . I think that our bodies are the perfect creation and we have everything we need to survive. Maybe SOME BABIES are deficient in vit K and more depending of what the mother ate during her pregnancy. And yes the babies cannot eat a salad, but the babies take all the nutrients from the mother when they are in her womb.
For me it doesn’t make sense to make such a declaration that ALL BABIES are deficient in this vit.

All babies. Because it does NOT transfer via the placenta and umbilical cord. And it doesn’t transfer in breast milk in adequate amounts either. So babies can take all they want from us moms but sadly vitamin K isn’t one.

Our bodies are not perfect creation because our bodies are products of Evolution, which can only compromise based on opposing goals and existing structures. For example, babies’ heads are large but women have unusually small pelvises for a mammal due to bipedalism. Therefore humans are all born relatively prematurely compared to other mammals. Horses can ambulate the day they are born, but humans take one YEAR post birth to walk. This vulnerability is hardly “perfect,” but perfectly demonstrates compromise that nature makes via natural selection for both a large brain and an upright posture for the Homo.
That is just one example among hundreds of how our bodies are anything but perfect. Part of that “imperfection” is being born w vitamin K deficiency, but guess what, a cheap and easy modern intervention solves that problem for pennies a baby.
Guess what, having to share a planet w harmful micro-organisms is another “imperfection.” They want to use you as food and shelter and raw material. It’s not their fault. But if you want to not let them eat you, get all the routine childhood vaccines. It’s really, really dumb to get paralyzed due to polio these days.

How did so many babies survive without it in the past if the medical crazies are claiming it's suddenly been a problem? Aluminium is a KNOWN Neurotoxin. If you inject it into anyone, it gets carried to the Lymphatic System. It has no idea what to do with it, so sends it to be dealt with in the other separate immune system in the brain. I think the better way to look at it is that it shouldn't be called a deficiency if ALL babies are born like this. Their lack of vitamin K may just be the RIGHT way for them to enter the world. Sure no babies have had allergic reactions and died from a sudden and unnatural dump of vitK but did anyone bother to research the advantages to not having this vitamin? That's the question I have. We don't call babies preborn just because we've learned that many develop colic from struggling to life outside the womb. Researchers even call the first 3 months the 4th trimester, since the brain isn't fully developed to function well independently. But wouldn't it be STUPID for the response to colic be to claim that ALL babies are born too soon and make it standard to keep them in an incubator for another 3 months??? Because there actually is a very good natural reason they are born at the stage they are. I'm inclined to believe the same is true for the vitK and perhaps we are interfering with something important by just shooting them up with it seconds after they enter the world.
Most countries (UK, Europe) do oral or injectable. We opted to do oral for our 2nd, injectable with our first (vacuum used at delivery). We discussed both with our doctor.

I am someone who is not into getting vaccines for my children, but I have a husband who really wants our baby boy to be circumcised. Therefore, if my baby is a boy, I'm going to get the vitamin k injection so that circumcision can happen within the 12 days that the pediatrician is going to do it. This video is very reassuring, and even though if my baby is a girl I will not be getting the injection, I'm very glad to have this information.

I've read that in a group with Vit AK shot 1 in 100k babies will develop bleed vs 4-7 in 100k without shot will have issues. The difference is 6 babies per 100k births.

Breastmilk fed babies should supplement vitamin D to prevent rickets. Get the one drop a day formulation. Less volume.

The "defency" itself is presented as if it a true horror, when even your own statistics do not provide enough information to base such an important decision. Can you explain to me what a "normal" country is. I am actually genuinely curious which ones you are referring to. I am guessing the UK? They do have some amazing things in place for pregnant individuals and postpartum families that I really do like! Sadly though by the time you have watched the baby for a whole week with them having deficient levels of Vitamin K for that entirety it will be too late for some babies who will have already developed Vitamin K deficiency bleeding.
Unfortunately, the hospital cannot keep a baby there for 6 months to observe the baby for internal bleeds or brain bleeds.
I'm guessing you've not had children of your own... no mother I know would want to stay in hospital for a whole week. Yikes! If I knew baby and I would be sick there for a whole week "just in case", I would deliver at home (which certainly isn't in mine or baby's best interest).
We focus on getting people out of hospitals as soon as possible. This is for many reasons. Yes some are financial (saves $).
But more time in the hospital does no translate to better outcomes: you are at risk of hospital acquired infections. Remember the hospital is where we send the sickest of the sick. Even if you are on a separate floor or building, there are people who have to move between locations and thus no area is truly isolated.
We often see cheaper and more standardized approaches to common health care issues results in better outcomes. Vitamin K is cheap and safe. A brain bleed is expensive and potentially deadly. By observing for a brain bleed would serve no one’s interest: you are just waiting for a problem to occur and not preventing it.
And pray tell if the first presentation of hemorrhagic disease of the newborn is a brain bleed which could have been prevented by a Vit K shot, which is proven to reduce bleeding risk by 80 FOLD, then what?
The risk continues for 6 months. What’s watching baby for 1 week gonna do?
Parents who refuse vitamin K at birth are morons. If they don’t want hep B vac (provided mom is neg) or erythro or even newborn screen, fine.

The baby must be able to get vitamin K from the mother. If the baby can't then that is a result of the mother's diet. Humans have been around a lot longer than vitamin K shots.
And they used to die at an incredibly high rate. We can’t say humans have been around a lot longer than vitamin k shots and not mention that the death rate for babies was high. And as mentioned in the video it doesn’t transfer in high enough rates through breast milk so increasing it in the mothers diet doesn’t translate to high vitamin k for babies. And it doesn’t cross the placenta in therapeutic doses.
@@mamanursetina The deaths were caused by malnutrition. Phylloquinone, the form found in the injection doesn't transfer in high enough rates because phylloquinone is not very active. That is from vegetables and a diet deficient in animal sources of vitamin K would have the same problem. The mother's diet should be rich in menatetranone from things like egg yolks, chicken liver, beef liver. Giving an injection of phylloquinone which is impure is not only inferior to menatetrenone and unnecessary with a proper diet, but has the potential to do harm due to do the impurity of other substances in the injection.

My kids got vitamin orally, I think it was three times in a shirt period after the birth. We live in Austria. I didn't even think about not allowing it. They needed it, they got it.

So you will have to take in information and make decisions on what you think is best for your baby. The recommendation is yes, vitamin K for babies within 6 hours of birth. But no one can force you to do anything you dont want to, you simply have to ensure you have all the information you need to make an informed choice :)

Birth in itself is quite an event for babies. Sometimes they bleed. It doesn’t have to be a traumatic birth for babies to have bleeding either.

We have stats for the benifits and that is great but we don't have proper information for the risks. What is interesting to me is that since vitamin K isnt a vaccine it's a medicine, it doesn't have the same standards as a vaccine or studies.
Sure it makes sense that the drop form of Vit K is less effective in what ever dose was measured but what if more of a dose was administered more frequently...
It is good to critically think about things like this for sure. The oral vitamin K route is better than none. The issue, I believe, has to do with the absorption, storage, and how regimented the parents will be at the follow up dosing (because oral requires more than one dose where the injection is one time). The brilliant thing about the injection is its one time, stored in their body to be released over the next 6 months. I don't have a specific answer to your question however :)
Vitamin K injection for newborns are basically risk-free. I admit babies all the time. Inpatient peds is 100% what I do. Times I’ve seen babies come to the hospital w a bad effect from Vitamin K? Zero.
And I see a lot of rare diseases of childhood in the hospital. And yes I have seen many cases of catastrophic pediatric strokes unfortunately.

Vit K = no brainer: give it! I have seen too many infants with spontaneous brain bleeds; for my baby, Vitamin K for the win. The risk of complications due to vitamin K is low. The relative risk assessment makes the decision for me easy. Unfortunately, risk assessment by the general public is poor. People over estimate these small risks and under estimate other risks that are actually higher (like risk of bleeding without vitamin K).
The modern age problem: everyone is a “google” expert and wants to do their “own research”. My question to ask yourself are you really qualified to adequately do this work? In the medical field we have multiple years of training, testing, and real work experience to go against “standard of care” therapy?
For those who bristle at the thought of “one size fits all” recommendations: we see more harm when there is more variation on medical therapies. We see better outcomes when therapy is standardized.
As a pediatrician, I would argue you have to have a very high bar to go against the standard of care therapies. We all want to get to the same outcome = a healthy + happy baby. But negligence by parental choice is a thing (just as it can be by a health provider). I think the last thing a caring parent wants to do is make a harmful choice for their child.
Thank you for your professional (and parental) input. Social media has been so helpful in some aspects by allowing people to be exposed to more information easier. But I feel like taking information point blank can be very harmful. IMO people should take the information they see and hear to the provider managing their specific care and use it as a point of discussion. Vitamin K is the one thing I wouldn't skip for my babies but it is the one injection that has so so much misinformation about it out there.

In 200 years vaccines have virtually eliminated childhood mortality. To think half of all your children will die before age 18 is now some imagined horror suffered by only the most unfortunate. In 200 years we have changed the course of a normal and pedestrian human experience that has been routine for 200,000 years- burying your children.
