North meets South. It works, not my favorite marriage of decor with home style, but still interesting to see how she pulled it together. The important thing is it's what makes her and her family happy and grounded, and we should all be so fortunate.
Thank you, I was wondering as I’m viewing from England and knew it was 30 years or so after the civil war but didn’t know which war the owner was referencing.
@@hiveship1 you're pretty slow. So let' me explain it to you as the 5 year old you are. The war was fought in 1898 and its lasting effects in the Caribbean would make an Army base in South Carolina a necessity as well as in Florida. Troops would have been sent here built up for any resistance in Cuba and Puerto Rico both islands taken from the Spanish in this battle. Remember The Maine. The army base in South Carolina would have predated the war. More troops sent to this base would nessitated the need for Army OFFICER BOQs. SO IF YOU HAVE OTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS. ASK YOUR LOCAL HISTORY TEACHER.
What a gem....Sullivan's Island is so amazing and this home is as well. Though not a fan of grieges and dark colors in Low Country especially--the sun's brightness calls out for happier colors IMHO, Sarah's welcoming spirit was delightful and how lucky she is to be a steward of such a magnificent home.
@@scorpnar Nonetheless, it is 2-3 inches too short and whoever standing behind her when she leaned over to pickup a book off the floating coffee table got an eye-full. She is beautiful and has a wonderful figure, but her poor taste in clothing (especially for her age and the event) is terribly distracting. She could benefit from a stylist, especially if she wants to dress appropriately for Charleston Society. She has a classic beauty and with a bit of direction she will be stunning!
AGREE so much. Such a missed opportunity...feel like this is kind of a mess, all the furniture would be great but they don't work here and there are just too many styles and so cold. Don't understand this at all, the art makes no sense to me either. I love mixing old new, etc...but this seems very mismatched.
In my opinion the historicity of this home and the decor style are COMPLETELY competing and fighting against each other. I think it is a shame that such a warm and beautiful historic home is filled with the discordant and cold disharmony of modernism. 😢😢
Nice house! Your husband has great taste too. My first house was built in 1895 and all the back rooms were ship lap. So I think they did have that back then.
Beautiful southern house! I love the Charleston green, but it is a stark contrast against the lifeless color palette of the interior. The architecture is exquisite, but I find the home very cold and void of charm. It's such a shame they blocked the French doors to the veranda with a nondescript sectional sofa.
Love the home and did not agree with all the negative remarks on your modern furniture. I loved it and loved the clean lines of your home, absolutely beautiful. Would loved to have seen the bathroom and maybe one bedroom how you decorated. I love your style. I too have designed same as you and am finding my place to feel so cozy at night with my many framed photographs and prints, same as you. Wonderful.
Absolutely love how you’ve furnished your home. I love the juxtaposition of the age of the home and the modern esthetic of the decor. Everything is so well curated. It’s fantastic that you have to space so that each piece has room to breathe. You’ve done a beautiful job. 💞
About the fake Degas. I buy paintings when I like them. I have acquired many listed artists, but many unsigned or from unknown artists. You don’t need to spend a lot to have nice art.
I'm not opposed to juxtaposing contemporary furnishings in a historic shell, but the portion of that custom (!!!) sectional in the formal living room that juts out into the doorway 9:34 seems so odd to me! 🥴 Why not have it perfectly sized so that it tucks neatly into the corner and doesn't block the entry into the room? 🤔 That's what they do in high-end NYC apartments (like others featured on this channel), right? Also, the scale of that huge rectangular desk next to the sofa 9:19 seems rather off... if she needed a work space and she's already doing Prouvre and midcentury modern furniture, wouldn't a circular Saarinen tulip table or something similar look chic in that corner and actually work better with the shape of the room? And why no rug in that space?? 🤔
I'm assuming "The War" is the "Civil War" & the army was the Confederates, right?...You just make it weird by tip toeing around that. Its 2024 every home has a past.
can’t be civil war, as she says the home was built in the late 19th century-1890s. civil war ended in 1865. first worl war started in 1914 and fighting was not on US soil.🤔
@@alexandrariggs3768 - But she said her home was built in the late 1800s & some in the early 1900s & she isn't mentioning any generals that lived in her home? Why is she so vague?...Oh & what other war can it be?
@@JZG88 this is what I am trying to figure out. Either she has the year that the house was built incorrect or perhaps by "war" she simply means some sort of military drills with canons that took place. Because to my non-expert knowledge, in that region in the 1890s, there wasn't a war that I am aware of.
Absolutely love the furniture and decor!! This really appeals to me. Why live with late Victorian over dressed foofoo when you can have the clean lines of mid century modern. Most of the people commenting negatively here have nasty attitudes combined with a lack of grace.
she keeps mentioning “the war” but house was built in late 19th century. which war necessitated the tin ceilings? civil war was decades past when this was built in 1890s and the first world war was fought overseas. is there one i am missing??

This is so nice! The modern decor makes this house seem incredibly relatable somehow, possibly because it’s very expensive to furnish to the scale of the ceiling height, but she proudly uses the furniture they have collected through the years, scale be darned. And clearly they’ve programmed the use of their spaces to meet their family’s needs. I love that she credits local artists. Hope to see more of her style.
LOVE a large, beachside, white, 19th century , clapboard, wrap-around porch, large outdoor palms flush against the clapboard - place!! What a dignified and inviting presentation. Handsome-as-heck bones. Agree - tin *ceilings splendiferous. Wishing our very sweet hostess and her family many years of joy here.
Not sure about this one. I love historical homes. I will never understand New Yorkers who fall in love with Charleston, move in, and work to make it look like New York.
such a beautiful home! would you mind sharing where you were able to get the privacy motif glass? I just adore it and could use something like it in certain areas of my home!
I was going to post the same statement. Only the commanding officer’s house would have been built with plaster ceilings , since that house would have been ( and still is ) the showcase house for visiting guests and dignitaries to invited to for dinners and gatherings.
Beautiful historic American home. Hoping for a PART 2 visit and tour so we can enjoy seeing the upper stories, also including the bedrooms & bathrooms.
Aww the ingenuity of men, who have a problem and find a solution in this case the classic tin roof. I love tin roofs, anywhere, they are so beautiful. Wish I had them in my own home. Homes built in the 1800s had so much rich architectural beauty. I wish that were the case today.
The colour palette continued throughout the ground floor is calm, elegant, and warm, like the homeowner. A beautiful home and the modern furniture and decor works wonderfully, I think. Thanks so much for sharing it with us all.
What a unique story of the house. I am so happy that they are being saved. Thank you for not tearing out historical items.
They should be restored NOT renovated :{ too modern, too white, kitchen is just a shamen mot original :{

For the first time i looked mostly on the designer not the interior. Such a beautiful woman.
Bit that dress 😮
But that dress 😮

The mix of styles is fabulous and I think very complementary to the architecture and original details. Gorgeous!
A great history. However as the owner says it's decorated "funky and NY modern mid century". This is sadly not a historical SC home.

As a Lowcountry native, I am appalled by her decor 😂 A local would have done such a better job making that home worthy of being on Sullivans Island.
There is a charming blend of vintage charm and seaside elegance. ✨
Thanks for the tour. Not lost on me how many New Yorkers keep moving to the South.
Wow. What an impressive home & such an intelligent, beautiful host. Thank you for the tour. Your home is lovely.
Dome? It's actually a cloche.
For obvious reasons, I just can’t deal with bathrooms right off kitchens. Love the sunroom and exterior of this house.
Beautiful! Love the more modern furnishings and art mixed with the traditional architecture and antique art. Very talented designer.
Nice home, the sliding doors are actually called Pocket Doors.
Love her home ❤
Are the countertops low???? or is she just really really TALL? the counters are below her hips. That can't be good for her back.
She appears to be wearing platform strappy sandals that look between 4"-5" tall...I feel like her natural height is around 5'7"-5'9".
I think she’s very tall.
She was a model so she’s probably tall.
Doing anything in that sink would put my back out!
