I don't think I could have found a better introduction video to shutters. Honest people like you save us so much time in research and headache. Thank you for that
Thank you so much for doing this through video. It was very helpful for me to determine what I want to do in my house. Your work has not gone unnoticed.
Tremendous video!! I’m a DIY guy, and I just couldn’t get my head wrapped around how to install the shutters if I had very limited space from the wall to the window, plus I have molding and a wooden windowsill, framing out the window. You answered all those questions. Thank you so much.
I can’t thank you enough!!! ❤❤❤ I’m so impressed and appreciative of you blessing me with your thorough explanation!!! May you be blessed in return 🙏🙏🙏
Haha I totally get what you’re writing but isn’t it funny that you can say “best video,” which means you’ve watched a bunch. So you’re probably thinking about installing them like me and suddenly you’re in an iceberg of all the facts about shutters, watching tons of videos. 😂 Just laughing at how the human mind works, what we choose for entertainment etc. 😘 Like me, it’s a cool night and I could go out but I’m sitting outside on my porch relaxing watching videos about freaking shutters! 🤣🤣🤣
Highly informative video Robert, thank you. Funny that you mentioned basswood because that is the species, I'm using to build my plantation shutters within my home in Mobile, Alabama's hot and humid climate. I will be staining selected room shutters and painting the others. I took a scrap piece of basswood and stained it with a lighter walnut color that turned out fantastic. I 100% agree with Basswood Shutters.
Yes, the beauty of basswood is it tends to do well in both a higher humidity environment like Alabama as well as a dry climate like here in Arizona where I live. I on the other hand, do much better in my dry climate 😂
Good video. We bought the house with shutters already installed except 3 bedroom windows. We want to match the others but not sure what material they are. We are in Vegas so hot like AZ and the 3 windows are facing west so you know that 400pm sun is brutal. Thx
I had them in a previous home (it also had a crazy high ceiling in the kitchen with a skylight! And I’ve missed them both ever since. I like opening all the windows or otherwise letting lights in. Mine were on the south side but my yard was shaded by large trees. I wouldn’t say the darkened it much. Obviously they’re going to more than say pulling up regular blinds and having a naked window, and to open them you have to swing them out… but I’ve had every basic type of blind or curtain in my house and for me its shutters 100%. Best part is unlike Venetian blinds you don’t have to wrestle with the freaking string. 🤣🤣🤣
what you forgot to mention: PVC - AKA: Poly, Polywood, Vinyl and other sales terminology. Because PVC on its own is almost useless, it must be combined with a number of additives in order to give it the properties desired in the final product. These additives include toxic plasticizers (such as phthalates), stabilizers containing dangerous heavy metals (such as lead), fungicides, and other toxic substances. Because these additives are not chemically bound to the PVC, the PVC product itself can be immediately dangerous to the consumer. Additives can wash out, pass into other materials or be lost to air. Examples of potential human exposure are as numerous as the PVC products themselves. The smell of new car interiors is a familiar example of what experts call chemical “fogging” from PVC products. Plasticizers have been shown to be directly transferred from PVC plastic “cling film” to food. Children teethe on vinyl toys which contain toxic additives. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a warning in 1996 when it discovered that PVC mini-blinds were giving off lead dust, which can have brain-damaging effects on children. ALSO Numerous companies and governments have enacted PVC restrictions and material substitution policies. Large companies such as Proctor and Gamble, Mattel, and the Body Shop have phased out PVC packaging. BMW, Herlitz, IKEA, Opel, Sony-Europe and Volkswagen have all announced policies to eliminate PVC uses. Big construction projects such as the Euro-tunnel between England and continental Europe were completed without the use of PVC. PVC is restricted from some city high-rises and military and aerospace projects. Hundreds of European communities have instituted restrictions on the use of PVC in public buildings. The Swedish Parliament voted in 1995 to phase out soft PVC and rigid PVC with additives that are already identified as harmful. In Denmark, government officials phased out use of PVC in the year 2000. FINALLY FIBERBOARD - AKA:Engineered Wood, Composite, Faux-wood, Hybrid and other sales terminology. Formaldehyde resins are commonly used to bind together the fibers in Medium Density Fiberboard, and testing has consistently revealed that MDF products emit free formaldehyde and other volatile organic compounds. (VOC’s) that pose health risks at concentrations considered unsafe, for at least several months after manufacture. Urea-formaldehyde is always being slowly released from the edges and surfaces of MDF. As far back as 1987, the U.S. EPA classified it as a “probable human carcinogen” and, after more studies, the WHO International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), in 1995, also classified it as a “probable human carcinogen”.. Further information and evaluation of all known data led the IARC to reclassify formaldehyde as a “known human carcinogen” associated with nasal sinus cancer and nasopharyngeal cancer, and possibly with leukemia in June 2004.
I don’t believe you touched on the louver size. I live in Arizona as well. What would be the best louver size to keep the most light out when they are completely closed?
I saw them today! I wanted to know how to you install them when you have Aluminum windows? Coz I have ring curtains, I just wanted to know. For example, if I those blinds & curtains how, without removing the curtains. ❤🙂
Great video but I have a question. I have casement windows each having a crank connected on the bottom so I can either open or close the window with. How do you get around the cranks when measuring?
Forgot to mention where or on what type of surface can these be mounted. I was looking to see if these can be installed on brick surface with fiberglass windows. Thank you
THANK YOU! Is there a shutter solution for interior french doors with glass? I would like privacy in my large Study and have the option to close my louvers when I'm writing. Thank you.
There are shutter solutions for french doors, but the options could vary from one manufacturer to another. You will want to discuss with your local provider what they offer for french doors.
BIG question here... We have crank (casement windows) AND the drywall on the inside of the windows meet the outside drywall with the bullnose style. So question 1) Do you need to use the surface mount (outside mount) shutters when you have casement (crank) windows? 2) Will bullnose style drywall around your windows keep you from being able to even have any style shutters added to your windows? We just paid big money to have all of our newly installed windows "bullnose" style because of the classic Spanish style look of our home. But we always knew that the 2 bedrooms would be getting shutters. So I'm wondering if that is even possible now that we've bullnosed the drywall around each window. Thanks.
Inside mount shutters with casement windows is not necessarily out of the question. Some companies can do cut outs for the cranks and locks. As to your second question, you can do an outside mount shutter with almost any style frame, as long as you have something flat for it to sit on.
@@RemodelWithRobert Thanks, Rob! I am halfway through editing the next one: a beer review...and then I'm gonna start in on editing another major video! =)
I do discuss outside mount in the video, though I may refer to it primarily as surface mount. There are some examples shown in the mounting/frame portion of the video. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for this. I did not know you could get shutters that open in sections. I want to put them in my bathrooms and was wondering about privacy.

What price's are we talking about. Live in PA. Any suggestions of providers. Thanks you are great.
Thank you for explaining everything abt shutters. I got some ideas what kind of shutters we need. Happy New Year
Thanks for the video, very informative and well done.

Thank you for your amazing video. Just a question please, how would you rate in percentage how much black out they can provide?
Excellent information. A thumbs up & a new subscription. Thank you!
Wow man! Really good job! Thanks
Wanting plantation shutters in my RV. Needing help with measuring, buying and installation. I’m in Picacho,Az. Thanks Wanda

实木气窗工厂路过,您的视频太经典了
Great video but I have a question. I have casement windows each having a crank connected on the bottom so I can either open or close the window with. How do you get around the cranks when measuring?
Lol I call those the California blinds since I’ve seen these so much when I went to CA lol
Great video, thank you.👍🏼
My concern is that they will restrict light in a darker home ( north facing ) do you notice that ?
The windows in this video are actually a north facing window. There is a lot of control to how much of the available light is let in.
Forgot to mention where or on what type of surface can these be mounted. I was looking to see if these can be installed on brick surface with fiberglass windows. Thank you

What if the window has a sill? Like one that protrudes out along the bottom like a shelf
This was very helpful
Thank you. Wish you lived in Ohio to help me. lol. Great video.
