Hey all! A lot of people are leaving comments with links for US sources for some of these products which is AWESOME! However, UA-cam is automatically removing many of them as spam which we don’t seem to have any control over. We want to see them, though! If you send them to us on Instagram or Facebook @pastagrammar we’ll do our best to spread the word!
Thanks for the advice.
You guys always show some amazing foods off. But, what are the worst foods in Italy? The dish no self respecting Italian wants to cook, the ingredients they always say to avoid.
Just curious because I want to know what I should avoid as much as I want to try many things.
I bought some Filei pasta at Russo Food Market in Wyomissing, PA. They may not list it on their website so call the store.
Orange blossom honey is very common, perhaps second only to clover honey.
There is a small local farm in Florence, Arizona, that makes wonderful Orange Blossom honey, and other things. It would be cool if you got some honey from Florenza and some from Florence, and compared! lol
Eva has great teaching skills as an Italian purist cook and Harper has great media presentation skills as an American cinematographer. This is a great channel to learn from both of them equally. They are a sweet couple who wholeheartedly shares their love of Italian food to us as much as they love each other. Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives as your viewers! Keep up the good work!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Harper: I bought a package of pasta for me when you're gone!
Eva: *proceeds to cook with that package, destroying every hope to have Filei when she's not available*
I laughed. A lot.
It just means the trip back to Italy with be soon. Ha ha!
There are a few places to buy it online I just looked
@@rachelshulman111 we can even get homemade FRESH fusilli in our style from our region Sassano / Vallo Di Diano from shops that import here in NJ!!!! which is equivalent. we are lucky
Orange blossom honey, is the honey of Florida. Pretty sure there are some differences from what Eva is used to, but you guys made some great choices.
That's my favorite honey too.
California too. They actually grew more oranges than Florida the last couple years. And they did it without water somehow lol. Texas also grows lots of citrus. Lots of orange blossom honey at the farmer's markets.
We have orange blossom honey in Southern California, the main variety of trees around this area are Valencia. I'm only looking at locally produced raw honey.
@@lavenderbee3611 I used to make the drive from La to SF quite often. Every time, I made sure to stop at the farmer's markets around Bakersfield. Best oranges I've ever had in my life. It's sad people know Bakersfield for meth and not the oranges. But I havn't tried the meth, so what do I know? lol
Yes, we have lots of orange blossom honey in California! My grandparents owned an orange grove when I was growing up, and a neighbor put his beehives in it and paid my grandparents in honey each year. My Nana always ended up with multiple quarts of honey and sent some to us, so I grew up on it.
Great video, as always! Loved the GIANT moka 🤩
Senza quella non si vive! 😂❤️🇮🇹
@@PastaGrammar ciao Eva ed harper. Sfizzi di Calabria invia in tutto il mondo se non erro. Se volete dargli una visita al loro sito. Ciao da lombardia.
The giant moka makes A LOT of espresso. You can make coffee for an entire army. That's the same Moka pot Benito Mussolini used to make coffee for his army and that is how he ruled italy for so long!
In Italy we don't need Red Bull, we have Pocket Coffee. 😂
In Torino there is also the Bicerin liquor. It's a liquor with chocolate. It's very good and creamy.
I love Tornio and yup Bicerin is magic!
A little trivia about the pocket coffee: I think that the reason you can't find always on the internet the pocket coffee and the other Ferrero's chocolates (like for example Mon Cheri that is similar to pocket coffe but with a cherry and liquor inside or the Ferrero Rocher an hazlnut chocolate) it's because company policy: in italy The Ferreo company makes this commercial berak in tv where they say that they stop selling their chocolate during summer because otherwise the hot temperature will ruin them
Yet Australia has ferrero all year round and last I checked our temps r hotter. And we import thrm
@@southaussiegarbo2054 I read @Bruno Gattolin's post twice and it made no sense to me whatsoever. Ferrero's chocolates and other liquor chocolates are available in my country all year round.
@@Sparrowdean same. I'm in Australia if I didn't say
@@southaussiegarbo2054 probably in Australia they made a huge stock of this product and they sella it all over the year despite the Ferrero"s reccomendation. In fact in Italy Ferrero stops the distributions of some of theyr products during summer. What you can find around are warehouse stocks.
@@nicoladadda4120 we actually don't as far as i know lol.
Also isnt it winter in Italy nearly? It's almost summer here so I'd guess that might be why lol
Just back from Italy too - but from Piedmont. Grana Padano and or Parmigiano Reggiano always have a place in our suitcases, also brought back Speck, San Daniele and Bologna which cannot be found easily in Ireland (all freshly cut and vacuum packed by the deli). Also some tuna in olive oil, which costs a small fortune here. Last, but by no means least, dried porcini mushrooms.
On the sweets side, i’m another big Pocket Coffee fan and also brought back some coffee bonbons from Sperlari which taste amazing. Love cremini as well, usually go for the FIAT brand, though Novi is good too.
Availability of Italian foods has improved a lot in recent years here in Ireland, so don’t need to bring back as much as we used to, but there are some things that are still missing.
There is _only_ tuna packed in olive oil, the other stuff is closer to cat food!
@@monkeygraborange instead of steamed tuna?
Mmmhhh san daniele prosciutto is to die for!
I always bring back 4-5 kilos of sun dried tomatoes, from the market…..to pack in jars with tuna, parsley, chili (some) covered in EV 😜
I was born and raised in Florida and grew up eating orange blossom honey, the best tasting honey there is in my option.
Forget the orange blossom honey, the Calabrian chestnut honey is truly one of a kind. Honey that tastes like honey yet isn’t sweet. Incredible.
great haul ..guys about 80 percent of those products can be bought in my city of Toronto ..i think we have more Calabrese here in Ontario outside of Calabria ..you should visit one day. harper the filei is sold in every italian store here .
One more reason why I love Tronno!
Yes! We’ve heard from so many Calabrians in Canada, relatively few in the US. Not sure why that is but we’ll have to visit!
@@PastaGrammar there are lots in the US esp.. here in NJ area
I live close-by Toronto and it is amazing to see what wonderful foods we are introduced too, by our Italian brothers and sisters. Thank you!
Yes !! There are a lot of Calabrians in Toronto, and most of these can be found here, you need to visit us ! 😊
There's plenty of Orange Blossom honey in Australia, and we have 'NDUJA made here by Italian butchers. So we're doing good 🙂
Yes Harper they have Orange Bloosom honey here in U.S. but I am sure it has different taste than the Italian one because of the cirtus trees the bees visit.
Most (American) store bought honey will be adulterated with sucrose. There are however still some places in the world however where there is stricter regulation for what is considered honey.
Unless you know a local Apiarist and you get your honey stright from the source where there honeybee hives are located in orange tree groves. Here in Louisiana Honey is a large product in the state. I can understand national sold products could be altered but my family always buys local from the farmer or grower to get the best quality of meat, produce or product.😉
I suggest getting honey from the Savannah Bee Company - excellent variety of quality honey. The Tupelo honey is my favorite but they also have orange blossom honey.
After trying many American coffees and a few Italian ones, I had to order Guglielmo. I finally understand why a lot of Italy's TV shows (L'ispettore Coliandro, Il commissario Montebano etc.) make fun of coffees from the north. It's not just the water. Grazie mille
Eva, your teaching skills in cooking are fantastic. So many cooking shows just talk about how you should do different techniques But you actually show how and explain why and that to me is outstanding. This is why I watch you and Harper just about every day and I go back to watch the shows I missed before I found the channel. And I love the humor.
Keep it going, please.
Really good choices there with the pistachio spread and the Modica chocolate. Next time you should get pistachio pesto and try to cook with it
Eva’s hair is so incredible
Yes, Orange Blossom Honey is absolutely a thing and delicious. Easy to find as well,
Please come to Toronto. At Eataly, a wonderful “grocery store” with wonderful food carries. Filei….and so much more. YUM!
Well in arizona, some our main products are citrus. lemons, oranges etc. so we actually do have orange blossom honey for sale here. It's very nice.
Orange blossom honey was common in California before the orchards we cut down. But honey can come in all sorts of flowering plants. Blackberry etc.
When I went to Italy last Summer I brought back pasta (Pici and Mafalda), 3 different pestos (pistacchio, trapanese and sicilian) balsamic vinegar aged 12 years, a bottle of olive oil that my family gets from Abruzzo (and was the olive oil of choice of one of the former Popes). Some gelatin sheets for panna cotta, Friol frying oil, a couple of boxes of panna da cucina, and saffron. Also tons of La Roche Posay sunscreen! The sunscreens in Europe have extra filters that aren't approved by the USDA so the formulas sold in the US are inferior. I brought back like 6 bottles
This is why i like reading comments... i always learn somehing new. Didn't know about the sunscreen, very interesting
yes the saffron is amazing. when i went years ago i brought back saffron and cinnamon... loved it.. Leave everything and wander (another youtube channel) has a great piece with saffron harvesting
Well done 🏋️
I've seen many of these in Canada, so hit me up if you guys decide to make a trip up North. I've seen Filei in both Toronto and Montreal (and the exact same brand in this video!). So I find it shocking that you say you "can't find it anywhere in the US." I'm sure you can, especially in NYC (or anywhere where there is a substantial Italian population). You guys also have Eataly in the US, which is basically the DisneyLand of Italian food (it's just a massive Italian grocery-eatery complex). The pistachio spread, I've only ever seen in one grocery store in my life, which is in Toronto. It's called Highland Farms (shoutout!) The giant pasta and nduja I've also seen in Toronto and Montreal. But again, I'm willing to bet you can get all these things in Eataly.
It's so enjoyable watching you both share, with us, your treasures from Italy. Thank you 😊 💓
I love pistachios. I lived in New Mexico where they have huge pistachios groves in Tularosa, Alamogordo, etc.
Yes, Harper you are correct Orange Blossom Honey is available in the United States. Maybe you should try and compare Italian honey to what you can find in the US. Welcome back, thank you for the videos and I look forward to what you two produce in the future.
Italian Honey is the best in the World, followed in 2nd Place by Australia. You get more than 40 Different Types of Monofloral Honey. You can get most Honeys with a Humidity from 12 to 15 %. My personal Favorite is Macchia Mediteranea.
@@Nijinsky26 really? I didn’t know that.
@@cosettapessa6417 The older i get and the more i Study, the more i find that most good Things in Life, are either from Italy, had Origin there or some Connection to it.
What goes great with pasta? Pasta Grammar. Just ate my bowl of pasta, using techniques I learned from this channel.
A sentence I never thought I would hear: Eva: “This pasta deserved the space in my luggage.” 16:53. I always see and hear something new.
Italian treasures brought back , and the pasta dish looked great. I have one of those mocha makers and I grind my own beans. Makes very tasty coffee, pretty much a percolator for small batches. Awesome
Oh my gosh! My favorite thing: Italian Food souvenirs! Such fun. I keep a list of things to buy on my next trip to Italy. Oh how I miss it! Thanks for letting us watch your treasure trove of purchases.
That's wonderful. It's like Christmas morning.
Orange Blossom Honey is one the most popular honeys in Mexico. Ancient Mayans in the Yucatan peninsula use to make it and considered it to be a sacred link between the material & spiritual world.
Sicilian chocolate always reminds us a bit of the chocolate in Mexico. Also Cicily has the best pistachios on Earth 😋
If you want a good espresso grinder, I have recommendations. The grinder is more important than the brewer. Oh, and if you want a wild honey from Italy, try the black bee honey from the south, especially the kind where the bees eat the ‘dew’ from the aphids that eat the sap from oak leaves. It is an awesome flavor, and great for coffee.
What is the grinder link please?
I have been walking past pocket coffees every day for a month now, and had no idea… yay!
My favorite Italian chocolates are all from Mandrile Melis south of Torino. I hope you can try them (they can be ordered, but going there is more fun).
When I was in my early 20s I helped my dad start a pistachio farm here in California. The planting and harvesting processes are pretty interesting.
Pistacchio
I thought, our family was only one, who was bringing food from overseas 😄😁😆
Always excited to try new things from different places.
I would like to visit Calabria someday and get yummy goodies.
Thank you for videos. Always fun.
Thank you for another entertaining video. The experience is so relatable. The last time I was in Italy was 2019 right before the Covid shutdown. I still have vacuum sealed Grana Padano Vecchio (24 months), some regional cheeses from Vicenza and Grappa di Moscato. Taking home those goodies is half the fun of the travel experience. Hoping to go back soon.
When I last visited Italy in 2018….every thing tasted better! The coffee, the wine, the eggs, McDonald’s….EVERYTHING! also I would not be surprised if the orange blossom honey tasted better than the Florida one….no shade but there is something magical in Italy
For ORANGE BLOSSOM HONEY, go to the oldest, hippiest health food store you can find. They have probably carried it since the 70s.
I know a guy who brings back Burrata from Italy, still mildly warm in the box. He picks it up from the maker in a box hot to the touch. Puts it straight on his return plane. You can eat it later that day, Burrata less than 24 hours old.
Hah! We’ll have to try that!
Torrone: nougat. I am surprised Harper doesn't know it, even if most likely it is because he never had it before. Considering I am from Torino, my favorite nougat is the regular one made by Sebaste or even the Sperlari one is very good (the one that remains softer and a little sticky)
It's hotel snack bar standard candy now in America
I see it all over but I'm NYC
I’m surprised that toblerone isn’t available in the us as it is a kraft brand these days. That said i don’t want to take away from the authentic Italian original
My Italian wife and I do the same, but from America. Corn tortillas...huge, and more.
We absolutely have orange blossom honey. And even Walmart carries it. And brands that comes from Florida and NC
Yes we have orange blossom honey and it's great. I know you can get it down in Fl where I grew up, but would think you can find it anywhere.....
I brought back several things from Germany when I lived there, including two expensive bottles of Riesling. The Riesling disappeared when my nephew got hold of it. Brat still owes me money!
I would think the company who made that pasta you guys talked about a few months back could try and repeat that pasta Harper likes. Something to think about. So what’s for Thanksgiving? See ya Weds!
😮 Well at least the brat has good taste.
This really reminds me of when me and my Italian/Sardinian wife come back from Italy to England, although we can bring meat! So whole suckling pigs, lambs and goats, to meters and meters of fresh sausage get stuffed into the luggage. We once filled a suitcase with just artichokes and the other with kilos of pecorino! Keep up the good work, it’s really interesting listening about delicacies from Calabria.
That pistachio spread is amazing, I ordered some from a local Italian importer thinking I would use it on toast or in desserts but instead ate the whole jar spoonful by spoonful
Pistacchio
Omg chocolate candy with espresso in it …we are so stocking up on these. Yum! Thanks for turning us on to these Eva & Harper. Much love always xoxo 💋
Love you back! ♥️
Thank you Harper and Eva!! That was such a fun way to experience authentic Italian foods! :)
That Italian Orange Blossom Honey looked really good and had a fantastic color to it. As some commenters already said, America does produce a lot of orange blossom honey but no two jars of honey are alike! Orange Blossom Honey from the US and Italy will definitely taste different.
My father and I love the many varieties and flavors of honey and one of my favorite kinds of honey is Apple Blossom Honey. It's bold, fruity, and has an apple like sweetness to it. You can find it where there are a lot of apple orchards.
I highly recommend trying Sourwood honey from the southern USA though if you can find it - it's widely considered one of the best honeys in the world with its buttery caramel, gingerbready taste.
I am with Eva, my absolute favourite pasta is candele. Yesterday I went to my favourite Italian supermarket here in Melbourne and found candele from Gragnano, I was a very happy girl.
Hi! Can I ask what your favourite supplier in Melbourne is? I go to Mediterranean Wholesalers. Ta, Jean
@@jeanie4703 unfortunately I haven’t seen candele pasta, for awhile, it’s really hit or miss. When I can’t get them, I use ziti, zitoni or paccheri.
Yes orange blossom is a florida staple my favorite. We get for the bee keepers not processed.
Pocket Coffee is also sold in almost every single grocery store in Germany.
Orange blossom honey - how delicious! - they have it in Portugal, too. Try it with linden tea :)
We make orange blossom honey here in Florida. Then again, we have the best oranges in the world. 😁
After Sicily 😉😂
And California!😁
Lol. I remember when I went to Italy 🇮🇹 to visit my great aunt and cousins, she gave me some cheese. As soon as I took it out of my luggage when I came home, my dad ate the whole piece (it was small)!!!
You can find orange blossom honey here in the US but I'm sure the one in Italy is different and likely better. Get some orange blossom honey from the US and do a taste taste. Eva likely did not waste any space. In order to have the closest comparison you would need to find a (at least relatively) locally produced honey because there is a taste difference between honey you purchase in the store and ones you can purchase just locally.
Your channel is new to me but I LOVE ❤️ LOVE 💕 LOVE 💗 YOU GUYS 😘😘😘😘
I'm barely two minutes in and I'm already in love with both of you 💕
Thank you so much for enlightening us on more unique and delicious yummies from italia. You never let me down.
So much amazing food! I'm always searching for Calabrian peppers in oil, but there're hard to find in my corner of Vermont. Eva should do a video on how to make that pasta!!
19:00 reminds me on a Bajadera made in Croatia (with hazelnut) 😂😂😂 but this is green 👍
you are so lucky to have such an amazing cook for your wife
We DO have Orange Blossom Honey, but - there are so many different varieties of Orange trees, that no two are really alike! Kind of like how apple varieties differ. :) Honey Brown Farms has my favorite Orange Blossom Honey out here in Arizona!
Good to know! We’ll try to find some!
Great Video! I love hauls and most of all I love food-hauls! I bring back loads of food from my travels and I am so looking forward to our trip to Italy next year. I am definitely going to look for your suggestions!
If you come to Ottawa, Canada there is a store called la Bottega and it carries everything you guys brought back.
Great show guys. What a treat to wake up on Sunday morning to visit with the two of you bringing warmth, beauty and the comfort of great food to all of us. Brava e Bravo Stefano
P.S. made your zuppa di minestrone. Best ever. Perfetto Eva.....
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh my God... Cioccolato di Modica is one of my favorite things of all time!!! Brings all the childhood memories...
modica is actually the best one. and i live in switerland, i know what i'm talking about :))
Can't actually say it's the "best" one because it's a very different kind of chocolate, it can't be compared to others.
Orange Blossom Honey is a favorite in the US. Love it❣️. Great items you brought back…all looks delicious!
How you get through the Customs? I live in China and control on imported food are more and more strict (of course before covid, now it is almost impossible enter the country) and I've always heard that USA are really strict when comes to bring into the country some food.
Yes , you can get that in Florida in Sunrise on Oakland blvd at the fruit and veggie store
We also always bring an extra suitcase with us to Italy! Always fun packing to see how much food and wine we can actually fit in it.
Eva - Setaro is the best pasta brand! Buon Italia in the Chelsea Market in NYC has all of their shapes and you can get it online. What are you making with the Candele?
Harper - You can get all types of real Calabrese imported food and pasta in Brooklyn, NY at D. Colucchio & Sons. They also make amazing homemade Pancetta and Soppressata. They will ship it to you if you call the store. You're welcome. ;)
We love watching your channel and have visited to Calabria! Can't wait to go back and visit Dasa! Ciao!!!!
-Greg & Emily
Good to know! NYC is the only place we’ve ever found real fileja, but we never thought to call them for shipping. Thanks for the tip!
MAN I would KILL to get Pocket Coffee here in the states. I fell in love with them in my years in Napoli
Orange blossom honey is in every grocery store around Europe and the US.
From.organic local beekeepers here I'm NYC and my favorite Wildflower
Really smells like 💐 flowers
Omgosh please!!!!! I can't wait to see a video of Eva cooking her favorite pasta!!!!
Of course we have Orange Blossom honey. Come to Florida or California. I’m a beekeeper and we have Orange blossom, Wildflowers,Palmetto, Brazilian Pepper, and a few others.
Good to know!
Ohmigosh Harper, my eyes were bouncing all over and I kept screaming STOP, as I was trying to see the espresso candy you kept didn't hold still at the beginning of the video. Fun video Harper and Eva ! ❤ Thank you !
We have Pocket Coffee in Germany too 🤩
❤️❤️❤️. Love the coffee. I'll try to find it here in Germany. I understand your love for the coffee liqueur. I bought a Kimbo liqueur and it is miraculous. Italian goodies...it just doesn't get better.
You're officially International Cheese Smugglers, bless your hearts. 🧀👀
Actually I believe they are. Unless the laws changed you can’t bring in cheese, meat, milk products etc. My friend years ago tried bringing some cheese and sausage back in her suitcase. When she made it and was unpacking it was all gone.
From the Italian embassy web site about bringing stuff in to the US.
"Bakery items, candy, chocolate, and cured cheese are generally admissible. Canned goods and goods in vacuum packed jars (other than those containing meat or poultry products) are also generally admissible if being imported for personal use.
Dairy items such as milk, yogurt, butter are generally admissible, although this is subject to change, depending on disease outbreaks. Eggs may be admissible, although frequent outbreaks of Exotic Newcastles Disease and avian flu make it very likely that they will be denied entry. Hard cured cheese such as parmesan or cheddar are generally admissible, soft cheeses such as brie and soft curd cheese and cheese in water(ricotta, feta, etc.) are not."
We have orange blossom honey. Basically we have any honey that bees harvest the flowers of plants from. The honey is produced different times of the season when that plant is flowering
What awesome food that is you brought back! Hope you guys have a Happy Thanksgiving!
We definitely have orange blossom honey at all the grocery stores in CA, so you must be able to find it where you are
YAY for Eva’s correct pronunciation of “pistachio”🎊🎉. I never hear anyone pronounce it correctly here in the US. More often mispronounced than “bruschetta” and “espresso”😫
Pistacchio
@@davidesantillo889 thank you for the correction 😃
The English word 'Pistachio' is a sort of hybrid between Italian 'Pistacchio' and French "Pistache'
We have orange blossom honey that some people still make around here. The area where I am from has a lot of citrus and several products are made from them. Up in North Texas there is a lavender honey.
Eva's soo pretty, love her hair and style
Seeing Eva loving Japanese snacks... it would be fun to see Pasta Grammar in Japan, or in South Korea 😊
What we bring back every year from our holiday in italy: 🍅🧅🍉🍋🧀🍪🍫😋
Thankfully we migrated to Australia, that has so many Calabrians (esp Acquaro) and so many wholesalers, we get EVERY ingredient and type of Filei that you could imagine. 👌 Very lucky. Occasionally, I get Pasticcerie Iaconis, Gabriele, to send me traditional nougat (torrone) and our families legendary biscuits from Acquaro. 👌🥃
I’m from Dasà! 😂
@@PastaGrammar I know. 👍🥃
I would like someone to look at me like Eva looks at pistachio cream( and Harper, of course...) :°DDDD
Thanks for the coffee pot lesson. I wanted to taste all you brought back. Please show the cooking of the Italian “ziti” when you do. Really so much fun to watch this, now I’m hungry.
Orange blossom honey is everywhere in Florida, and there is a soft orange citrus flavor.
Calabrian Chilis are amazing…Amazon sells jars of them chopped in oil. What a great addition to so many recipes!
Yes, we have it in most honey stores in the west. And most of the bee farms have it.
I moved from Phoenix not 5 years ago and I can tell you for sure that you are in the HOME of Orange Blossom Honey. There are so many orange orchards around Phoenix and when I would go to Fry's foods there they always had it on the shelf. Also, your favorite pasta looks so good but I cannot get over how much it looks like your eating french fries. Haha, keep up the great videos and thanks again. (That hazelnut chocolate bar looked amazing.)
Awwww it warms my heart you brought back to the US the chocolate of my hometown :)
In Europe (outside of Italy) is now a bit easier to find it in some deli shops and sometimes even in some airports but I bet in the US is not that common to find.
Great choices. Btw, I think the English people use the word nougat for our torrone (although the nougat is not really the Italian torrone, but it's very similar).
Orangeblossom honey in CA also, but likely different from the Calabrian variety -wonderful!!
Sultano! My goodness one of my all time favorites. It can be found here in the states too!
Torrone, that would be nougat, traditionally made with honey, almonds, egg whites hazelnuts walnuts, vanilla and wafers or ‘ostie’. The version Eva bought is a delicious chocolate and hazelnuts variation. We love eating it with Panettone or Pandoro as our Christmas traditional desserts!
