Yep, I used to wonder about a total hermit guy at a campsite I stayed at who never came out of his van without furtively looking around to make sure nobody was around. I thought "I wonder what happened to him to make him like that?" Over the years I've learned how easy it is. People truly don't understand what living with PTSD is like and how, in the absence of consistent and trustworthy love, support and encouragement, the world and its inhabitants can feel very unsafe and scary. 😢

Old grumpy farts will always exist - think ahead and be ready for them. Lower your reaction to upsetting people then release the adreneline with a big walk rather than fleeing altogether. You'll feel much better afterwards that way. Planning ahead will help. A trip into the office upon arrival to see if you can have permission to play your saxaphone at a certain time of the day for example. You are actually are an amazingly strong woman. I could not travel independently around in a caravan like you. You're awesome. Sensitive yes...but awesome 😊

Burt and I were discussing it and we did notice there was so many old people there. None of them had a beautiful Van and matching car like you’ve got. But that’s neither here nor there the fact that your neighbour did this is very upsetting. I totally understand how you feel to have the courage there to play the saxophone is one thing but to be told not to play it. That’s just terrible that’s just horrible. There’s no words for that. I saw another man there playing his guitar. Obviously live music was allowed. I’ve got no words to say why on earth these people did this, But Lisa , you’re a blessing to so many I can understand you having a meltdown. I really can and don’t be ashamed of it. There’s nothing wrong with that. We love you heaps Lisa we know that people pay to see you perform you are asked to events to perform, we know all of that, this man was just being a jerk. ! Thanks Tammy, yes I heard the guy on the guitar and there was another person up the hill playing clarinet so I figured it would be OK but admittedly a sax is a lot louder than a guitar...gets me in trouble all the time. Sadly the more of these types of experiences I have when I'm busking, the less joy I feel by playing, it gets replaced with anxiety and fear and that makes me sad 😔
Lisa, I love your music. I think some people are jealous of you, because I was thinking that you had the most beautiful set up in all of the park while you were showing us all around. People are so mean! You play so beautifully.
Lisa I am sorry that this happened to you. There are people who enjoy causing trouble and you ran into some. When they were on video they were not willing to show their side. The Nationals were a chance for you to catch up and see old friends. You should not let it stop you for attending future ones, be it car shows or vans. I have been involved in a car club for 14 years and have observed that there are all types. The good, the snooty and the ones to be avoided. A common interest does not always bring in the best of people. People sadly do not leave the worst or the petty in them at home or at the front gate. It is ok to feel disappointed in what has happened and conversely with the way we deal with such disappointments. Try not to internalise any of this. You did not do anything wrong, your reaction is understandable and ok. Thank you for taking the video around as it showed me all of the different types of tow vehicles. Sadly my 1957 sedan will not make the grade and will be sold, but my wagon will do the job for a light caravan in the future. Thank you. Unfortunately I do internalise it because it's now happened so often that my already very shaky self confidence when it comes to my sax playing just can't handle it anymore. When you've been told your while life that you're "too much" it becomes a very sensitive trigger point. I keep trying to find the right avenue for my "too muchness" but seem to end up with the same results every time. It really makes me sad 😔
It’s awful isn’t it when you feel like you’ve had a telling off. I feel like a little girl when it happens to me now. Then when I’ve settled down I think they don’t know how lucky they are that I’m not like I was 10 years ago. Life has knocked some of the stuffing out of me. Your a woman on your own. It’s almost bullying. It is bullying and bloody rude. To turn around after and say it was a joke it bloody disgusting. I’m hoping that Australia becomes like America in how the woman that travel full time attend venues in numbers. And have get togethers so that there is community on the road and others around that are supportive. Doesn’t stop anyone being on their own most of the time but it’s nice to be in a group when with other groups. I bet you anything if you had another woman sat with you he would have approached you differently. I hope you realise that it’s not you who should be feeling bad but those men. And that manager did not handle it in a professional way. Chin up girl. My money is always on the woman to overcome.
I know you probably don't want to dwell on this episode, so I won't go on and on about it, but I appreciate you sharing this with us. I've been caught in situations where I've felt uncomfortable and unwanted, and in my opinion, there's nothing wrong with walking away. You mentioned that this was the second time this event has left you feeling bad, so it seems to draw people who don't get your vibe. Life is too short for that kind of shit. It's a big world out there, and there are plenty of ways to find people who get you. Hope you feel better! 💜

Thanks. I'll bounce back eventually... I always do, but each additional incident like this just heightens the anxiety levels each time I put myself out there. Just ask my friend Charlie who came with me for emotional support the first time I went busking in Cronulla. She's the only one who's ever seen the reality of what it takes for me as I was literally shaking all over as I was setting up. She was shocked to see that and asked if I'd be OK. I told her I'd be fine once I got playing as I lose myself in the music but I was so thankful for her presence in that moment 😇
You should have just stayed and enjoyed the rest of your time there. Some people are really noise sensitive especially if it's right near them. Next time set up by the office away from other caravans. Try not to dwell on it or it will make you physically sick ❤
It was a market day, and open viewing of the caravans and I was selling items outside my van so had to stay near my van. The office would have been a terrible place to set up as people wanted to look at the caravans.

There was a long advert so I thought the video was finished 🥰 I listened to another video of your music and it wasn't loud at all. It was very gentle and relaxing. I've had to ignore people in my old age and just realize they enjoy being miserable lol I've just been out to look at a sprite 400 but guy hasn't decided on a price yet!! Vintage caravans are so expensive here!!!

I did stay hidden in my van the whole next day and would have continued to do so but I decided there was no point staying there in that case, so that’s why I left early.

No fight left in me anymore. I can't function in any mental capacity once I'm triggered into a meltdown. Nothing would have made a difference at that point. I just had to go. It is a shame that the complaints of a few got their way over the appreciation of the other 300 people there. The shame I felt was the worst part though 😢

Ah that's sweet but unfortunately my big block has been struggling towing the van up hills lately...the kick down on the accelerator isn't working as apparently my accelerator linkage is stretched to capacity according to one mechanic I saw...was hoping it might improve with the trans rebuild but nope...had to manually change down on the big hills, even into 1st at one point, eek! Shouldn't struggle with the aluminium framed caravan so, along with an electric fan and a shroud to stop the annoyingly recurrent overheating issues in idle, my old girl needs some serious work done on her unfortunately 😑
I had something similar on a campsite I got Invited to play for some people at there pitch they loved it! And the people walking bye then the manager of the site came over I had to stop! Well I was ok but others wonted me to play on You’ve got to laugh it off! Even if you were kenny “G” there will always be people who don’t like the sax! We fee spirited people live in a different reality And people get jealous so don’t be put off! A few bad experiences is not a reason to stop Maybe a reason to practice/ improve but you do develop a tougher skin that enables you to survive livening that kind of life! I would have first went and talk to them If in doubt find out! Even the market I would find out first but the main thing you enjoy playing try leaning some swing stuff that always works for people it’s happy So don’t be hurt and stand your ground learn to laugh at yourself it’s a fantastic life and your not getting blown up! Hope this helps put things in prospective lisa! Play on!
