  • If there's one thing we see more than anything else when out on rescue callouts, it's animals entanglements...
    This poor mallard was the latest victim, needing a little help after getting his leg still in plastic line. Luckily (after the scene was assessed for the risk of avian influenza), Jacob was soon on the scene to help!

      Certainly. Though I also think he was just roughed up from being tangled (and probably trying to pull free for a while). The rest has probably given him the time to bring his feathers into order again.

    Ty for saving yet another member of our wildlife. I’m so worried when disposing of trash at home I will pick up and then cut up elastic bands left thrown on my porch by the postal service or simply on items that I’ve brought . Ty WAF ❤

      The paradox of fishing, you'd think they would know better, a group which you would think are environmentally savvy, when actually some are a law unto themselves...

      It’s not the plastic that’s the problem. It’s the stupid people that inappropriately dispose of it.

    • @mary-ruthflores4107
      @mary-ruthflores4107 Рік тому +21

      It’s not destructive if care is taken, you should go back to fishing, and do it the right way. You could also pick up as you go. I have a buddy who fishes, takes his sack, grabber and knife and gets the line out of the trees as he goes.

      That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. As a fisherman, you always leave with more than you took. You aren’t just a fisherman when fishing; you’re natures caretaker. Go back to fishing and this time bring a trash bag. When you finish fishing, pick up some trash.

    Ugh, I have had to rescue ducks with fish hook and fishing line problems. I remember one time am duckling's bill was caught in a fish hook that was wrapped around a stick way out away from the lakeshore. The hook and lure were super shiny and the duckling pecked at it, probably thinking it was food. The mom was frantic. I went into the water and managed to rescue the duckling. He had a permanent hole in his bill, so I could always recognize him. Years later, even, I would see him with his "holey" bill. He lived quite a long time and never got tangled again.
