X2 looks amazing! I go to California (San Francisco bay area, to be exact) every year and I often road trip down to LA, sometimes even Las Vegas through Death Valley, that place is just so beautiful.. I always see this thing in the distance when I'm on the I5. It just catches my eye, it's really incredible. I'm planning my next trip where I drive down to LA so hopefully I get to conquer this absolute beast!
I still can't get over just how ambitious this ride was for the early 2000s. My first ride really beat me up, but after getting to know how it rides, it becomes far more enjoyable. Definitely one of the most intense rides out there.
This might be my all-time favourite ride. I can understand people's issue with the bumpiness but it's never really bothered me. I loved it when it was just X but after its face lift to X2 its pretty much unbeatable until another 4D coaster is built. Sadly I don't get don't to California nearly as often anymore (even pre-covid) so I haven't been able to ride this in a few years but I still come and watch POV videos every now and then so I don't forget how awesome it is. I'm even contemplating getting it as a tattoo.
I rode this yesterday as my 150th credit. I was on an outside seat in the 5th car, and my brother took the inside. This coaster feels like ut shouldn't exist. I was left in awe and laughing at the final brakes. I rode this today in the back, again, on an outside seat, and I was not prepared for how different just 2 rows would be. The back row on this thing is surreal. This ride is pure chaos, and I love it. I wasn't able to get an inside seat ride, but I almost think I'd like it more on the outside either way as it seems to add to the out-of-control nature of the coaster. I didn't expect to like X2 as much as I did, but it might have dethroned Fury 325 as my new number 1.
For me is 10/10 after yesterday visit. I tried outside seat on back row after a long time and it was something out this planet. Also flames where on so it gave me a feeling that my face is already burned. This is the only ride that freaks me out before.
I barely even notice any bumpiness, even when I've done outside seats. This is so unique from the other 499 coasters I've ridden, and I love the extreme intensity and insanity. I've ridden it on school days plus Football Fest Sunday. Very little or no waits, allowed to go right back into the station after getting off.
In some ways this was the ride that got me in to coasters, all the way back in 2000 when I booted up RCT2 for the first time. It planted Magic Mountain firmly in my brain and when I finally made it to LA this year, I ran right to X2. Ended up having to wait two hours but it lived up to my childhood dreams.
This is my favorite coaster that's still standing. It's also the only one to get me to scream and close my eyes! My first ride I actually had tears streaming down my face! I happened to go on a slow day and asked the attendant if I could go again since no one was waiting in line. I still remember the look on his face like "are you sure?!". Oh what a wonderful rush this ride is! All subsequent rides I've been giddy like a school boy. I know the outside is bumpier but I love the feeling of nothing beside me on at least one side.
Love all superman coasters , especially the Flying ones. I was Petrified waiting in Q !! Not brave enough for a 2nd ride . It was a bit rough Love watching!! Thank you 😊
I always go under the stairs and if assigned I will ask if for no other reason than to avoid mixing with the flash pass users. But the stairs side also puts you on the outside of the turn around and on the higher portion of the twisted camelback before the flames. Been my favorite coaster ever since I first rode it over 10 years ago despite riding Steel Vengeance, El Toro, Voyage, and Skyrush this year. All great rides and worthy #1s but there’s just something special about the insanity that is X2.
Great video. I love this ride, definitely re-rideable if riding an inside seat. When I want to go extreme outside side back row is just insane. If I am not mistaken they could theoretically run 3 trains and did when it first opened as X however one is almost always offsite getting refurbished at S&S. The separate feature of unload and loading stations was a feature when the ride first opened and have cut it most likely due to staffing issues. Also I thought they rebuilt/redesigned the trains and made them lighter and not completely replaced them with new ones. Wish the sound system worked still and I am very happy covid fixed the mandatory locker situation.
I rode X2 when I went to Magic Mountain for my birthday a few days ago. Unfortunately the onboard audio wasn’t working, but the ride was still super intense and I still had an amazing time.
Absolutely love everything about this coaster besides getting a few rough rides here and there on it. The first time I ever visited Magic Mountain I rode every coaster in the park but X2 because it was that intimidating. My second visit I worked up the courage to go on it and every visit since I try to ride it 2 or 3 times during the day.
I went this summer while X2 was on one train, and I only got one ride. I don't remember the specific sensations on each element, but I remember being extremely disappointed. I would love to get a second ride someday though.
I went back in July on a Sunday, and it was one train the entire day. It seems like the other trains were broken, as I've heard from other people that it was like that a lot of the summer. We made a mad dash for it as soon as we got in the park, but even so the line was at 4 hours. I ended up coming back later and waiting two hours for a single ride, and the experience was so chaotic that my brain was barely able to process it. A big reason why I already have a trip to LA planned for April.
@@CanobieCoaster I was on an outside seat and found it fine, but granted I'm the type of guy who willingly rode Viper on the last row, twice. My other two friends were in inside seats; one absolutely loved it and the other banged his knee up bad on the last raven turn. Ended up ruining the ride for him.
When this opened in 2001, there was nothing like X2. I mean just imagining the concept of a 4th dimensional coaster was unheard of back in those days, and I still think it holds up. I can understand why people may not like it, and this was a prototype coaster, so obviously, S&S learned from the original Arrow design and took it to the next level. Alan Schilke was just nuts when he thought to be able to come up with this concept. Arrow Dynamics really were the coaster manufacturer to go to back in the day, and X2 is an example of why Arrow was so innovative back in their prime. X2 was so ahead of its time, and I still think it is to this day. It still looks very modern. The only problem is that this ride completely bankrupted Arrow Dynamics in 2002, since $46 million was insane back then for a coaster, but they ended with a bang with a worthy final sendoff. It was a risk worth taking, and I think Alan Schilke should be proud of his work, not only for X2, but for the time he worked at Arrow Dynamics. It's nice to see S&S Worldwide still able to maintain the ride with spare parts to provide, as it's over 20 years old now, so let's hope X2 will stay around for another 20 :)
@@CanobieCoaster I think they could still be around if they had implemented computerized track design from the start. Arrow were too optimistic and had stuck to their obsolete design practices, and B&M and Intamin beat them to the punch with smoother, more groundbreaking designs. Had Arrow done this maybe at the start of the 1990s and not later into that decade, I think they could have still been a major player in today’s industry.
I noticed that the current pneumatic restraint system can be controlled with buttons while the original mechanical restraint system with cables, levels, foot pedals and actuators would often get stuck very easy, leading to longer wait times and hampered throughput.
Rode this for the first time this weekend. On my third day I thought I would be prepared but the last hill still bashed my head insanely hard (I only rode stair side outside seat for every ride). Still feeling it today after over 24 hours but it was well worth it. I have it at my #7 spot out of 180 currently and Twisted Colossus as my #5.
This coaster is mind boggling 🤯 I don’t know if I have the guts to ride it again lol I thought the lift and seats were intimidating, then thought the drop would probably be the most intense, but had no idea the raven turns mixed with only a metal bra holding you in would make me feel I was sincerely going to die lol the most insane coaster I’ve ridden by far. There are other intense coasters, but this is another level! 😬
For me X2 is slightly the best ride at SFMM. I used to prefer Twisted Colossus, but over time that has changed. I prefer the stair side for a few reasons. First the ramp side is also the side where the fast lane comes up so it moves slower. Also on hot summer days you will be in the sun on the ramp side but that isn't the case on the stair side. I also prefer the stair side for the ride experience. I feel the second raven turn is a little better on the stair side. The stair side is just the overall more enjoyable experience. I really only ride X2 in the very front or very back. I'm glad that I have this coaster at my home park!
Thank You. Looking forward to my 1st ever ride on this Coaster. As far as the restraints, Hopefully the Ride Operators or those who make sure your secured In good, will assist those riders like myself to make sure we're properly seated. I've heard so much about this ride, can't wait for it, as it was Closed my last visit to the Park. Do You recommend I start out on Tatsu 1st to get 1 ride In as a Warm Up before taking on X2❓️🤔 Thank You. 😉🇺🇸👍
You already know that of the 97 coasters I've ridden that actually use gravity to power at least some (if not most) of the train's ability to complete the layout that X2 comes in at #8 for me. I rode it four times in total and all four times in the back car; car 8 on both sides, the inside right (the far side as guest enter the station that is only accessible by going through a tunnel under the tracks in the station; the part you call the left side. Unless I misunderstood you: the confusion between right and left is because you're facing backwards once in any seat of X2) totalling twice; one on the inside and one on the outside. On the left (the near side as guest enter the station; the part YOU call the right side) I also rode twice, both times on what I'd just learned was the rougher outside seat. That last time I rode it I was hoping to sit on the inside, but due to a request from some poor guy on crutches who asked me if he could sit on the inside instead of me; I was only a human being to oblige; lest I be an asshole. Poor guy was on crutches and wanted to ride X2 in the back car! He probably didn't have a fast pass either, so I couldn't help it: I gave him the inside seat. The only hazard with this ride is the calf muscles in the back of the calf part of the legs, which can get violently slammed into the front lip of the seat, which can be avoided if guests remember to extend their legs so that their calfs and thighs form a straight line to avoid calf banging whilst riding X2. As for the ride experience: I couldn't really make sense of it during the drop, (possibly due to the shock of experiencing the drop of this ride in the back; with the trick hill already having gotten me going before dropping it's full drop and reaching it's top speed, but not before flipping me onto my face DURING its biggest drop and reaching its maximum speed) but I definitely noticed on the camelback before the last raven turn that I actually felt the tummy tickling sensation of airtime during that relatively small turn in the ride; the sensation all to easy to grow a tolerance to, especially with so many relatively new coaster credits at the time. That element as well as the "weakest part of the ride;" (the drop after the half way turn around drop that preceded that camel back) Those elements alone made me KNOW that the coaster was elite, even if the better elements (after four rides in the back car) left me too shocked to be able to properly critique. However: I hope that nobody gets offended that the back seats of X2 is a coaster riding experience I place at only 8th place, especially considering I've only ridden 97 coasters that actually use gravity, but believe me: X2 is still an elite coaster in my books. For me: worse than being a little rough on the outside seats, X2 doesn't have a long enough duration, especially for its long wait. But if I've ridden 97coasters that use gravity (including tiny kiddie coasters like clones of "lil Phantom") and rank X2 my 8th favourite; Do you think I'm being too hard on X2? Please reply in the reply section.
I agree right/left can be confusing on this one. I used the queue line when the main line splits left (ramp) and right (tunnel/stairs). The ride really is amazing as long as you don't slam your calves too hard.
I’m devastated to find out Tatsu is going to be closed during my visit. This and Tatsu is such a unique 1-2 punch. So much better than the hyper Giga combo that are just bigger versions.
Did you say that we can leave loose articles on the load platform now? I have always left my souvenir drink bottle in the car to avoid having to pay for a locker on X2. I'll be back to the park on Wednesday, and it would be great if I'm able to leave my drink bottle next to the air gates now.
Honestly I really need to get back on I only had one ride on it back in 2007 don’t really remember much about it out side of the fact that it was/ is probably the craziest thing I’ve ridden
Iv only ridden an S&S freespin and it was pretty solid but holy actual crap. I think Alan Schike was on meth making this, it's on a level no other coasters has, besides Eej/Dino of corse. The fact that your seats flip while going 70 mph down a bear vertical drop then into a crazy 3d layout but flipping like a free spin. This makes me sad Arrow is out of business but they couldn't have made a better last coaster. The insanely + intensity + seats flipping + adrenaline = unlike anything else. I still think Twisted Colossus is the parks best but this thing is without a doubt the second.
Spent 3 days at magic mountain last week and originally i didnt care for x2 much but my recent ride was just awsome. Intense barley describes it its just nuts nothing else like it and i surprisingly didnt find it rough at all my number 2 at sfmm tatsu my number 1 was down being painted so was bummed about that but ive ridden it 20+ times also full throttle is so much fun and I'll just end by saying god Goliath is CRAP
@@CanobieCoaster just rode it for the first time today I was soo scared to get on. I thought I’d be able to pick my seat I was going to ride in the front but then sent me all the way to back row inside seat. I was about to back out but I rode it and I must say it is so awesome only got one ride since line was so long but I can’t wait to ride it again
I rode this when I was 4 years old on the outside seat of the right side back row. Holy shit was that the biggest mistake of my life; it's extremely difficult for me to get on coasters now because of it. It's a fucking fantastic ride but my dad should *not* have let me on it.
i like how people always point out how its the first 4th dimension coaster, but it does SO MUCH MORE it was the first wing coaster it was the first coaster that could invert seperately from the track its the best hyper at MM so much its done for the park also im a type A person
this ride might just be the only ride i'm genuinely scarred of and I don't know why. I know I will enjoy it but for some reason every time I go I miss out on it. its bizarre for me because I love coasters and I sucks to constantly miss out on one because your "afraid". Im not afraid of the ride its self per say but how I will fell on the ride, when I first went on tatsu I had this horrible felling all the way up until the pretzel loop as I had constantly heard this is one of the most intense elements ever conceived, for some reason that stuck in my head and I had this awful felling of short breath and extremely fast heart beat. this is probably normal but its the only coaster this has happened to me on and I dont want to experience it again it was so uncomfortable and zapped all enjoyment I would have had of the ride. but once I actually got to the pretzel loop I realized I was totally fine and actually loved the element. i'm worried this same felling will happen again on X2 as I have always heard its the most intense ride ever and unlike anything I have ever ridden. I know once I ride It I will be fine, but I dont want to have that felling again, any advise. its probably odd to here an enthusiast who is genuinely worried about a coaster and even I cant believe I am. I told myself I would ride it the next time I go. I just hope I dont get so in my head this time.
@@CanobieCoaster yeh for sure, I just have to get out of my head :-) I know I will love it so it’s just a matter of sitting down and letting the ride take over
S&S will build them as they have built 2 and do all the servicing of X2s trains. It's a cost thing $45+ million for a ride is cost prohibitive for most parks as a B&M Giga runs only $30 million and probably less of a maintenance cost too.
I’ve only ridden this once back in 2018, front row, inside seat. Such a miserable experience. Roughest steel coaster I’ve ever ridden, and it’s in my bottom 3 coasters out of 208. Easily my least favorite coaster in the park
@@CanobieCoaster apparently I didn’t know how to ride it. After my ride, I heard that I needed to keep my legs extended forwards to minimize the chances of pain. I didn’t know this going in, so next time I ride it, I’ll be ready
1 train on X2 is a disgrace. This ride has disney level demand, on my one & only visit to Six Flags MM it was consistently a 2-3 hour wait the whole day. Not only should they be running all trains, they should be utilizing the unload platform. Only at Six Flags.
Not *that* intense… rode back outside seat last week. Tatsu and Riddler’s Revenge we’re more intense on the brain and body. Can’t beat the views of the first two drops

That element as well as the "weakest part of the ride;" (the drop after the half way turn around drop that preceded that camel back)
Those elements alone made me KNOW that the coaster was elite, even if the better elements (after four rides in the back car) left me too shocked to be able to properly critique.
@@CanobieCoaster The confusion is all due to the fact that guests face backwards. ;)
And that mad man is Allan Schilke
Yup!
I can actually imagine B&M doing this with their Wing Coasters
That would be really cool.
I’m devastated to find out Tatsu is going to be closed during my visit. This and Tatsu is such a unique 1-2 punch. So much better than the hyper Giga combo that are just bigger versions.
Is Tatsu down for painting now?
@@CanobieCoaster Yes it is. Gonna be down for a while.
@@CanobieCoaster unfortunately yes. I might still go but I’m not certain anymore. I usually start with X2 because Twisted Coulssus is just to far away
@@seanlewis1148 it’s open for the holidays I’m so happy
Will be riding this for the first time soon. I love roller coasters but I am actually scared for this ride.
It's intimidating, but incredible.
I have ridden it now. It was crazy but really fun!
You talk about positive Gs in the last raven turn, but you didn't mention the crazy ejector it gives in the back.
I haven't felt that.
Did you say that we can leave loose articles on the load platform now? I have always left my souvenir drink bottle in the car to avoid having to pay for a locker on X2. I'll be back to the park on Wednesday, and it would be great if I'm able to leave my drink bottle next to the air gates now.
They allowed loose articles on the platform on quiet weekdays in October. I'm not sure if that policy depends on the crowds.
Hey, Canobie Coaster! This is the same coaster that doomed Arrow Dynamics!
It was!
I love the classic videos of X
Me too. I was shocked the park filmed so much B Roll.
What a way to go out.
Sure was!
My cousin, Hadley Huntzinger rode this, and she loved it. But my aunt hated it.
Nice!
I’m trying to get the courage to go on this. Would you say the biggest obstacle is that first drop? I visualize it and think I can handle it
Make sure to ride on an inside seat. If you make it past the first drop, the rest of the ride isn't as shocking as that moment.
is x2's harness like a but and more vest or is it like a vekoma vest
It's like an actual vest.
Honestly I really need to get back on I only had one ride on it back in 2007 don’t really remember much about it out side of the fact that it was/ is probably the craziest thing I’ve ridden
It sure is nuts!
One of my favorites
Same.
X2 is my favorite roller coaster I love the force
It's intense.
Second favorite coaster of all time, only behind fury 325
Both rides are amazing. I too prefer Fury.
At least this model still lives on with S&S, but the price tag is prohibitive for a lot of parks.
I got to ride this 3 times in one day on my one visit to MM. win win win!!
Nice!
Alan schilke is the guy who designed this coaster this guy is a legend.
Absolutely!
insane!
Yes
which is better, eejanaika orthis?
Eejanaika
What means "more reliable"?
Open more often
Does x2 or eejanaika have a better drop for you?
The drops feel comparable to me.
I'm glad you ended up appreciating X2 for its insanity.
I’ve ridden every ride except x2 if I liked everything else would I like this crazy looking ride
I love how crazy it is.
Best coaster
One of the best.
I rode this when I was 4 years old on the outside seat of the right side back row.
Holy shit was that the biggest mistake of my life; it's extremely difficult for me to get on coasters now because of it. It's a fucking fantastic ride but my dad should *not* have let me on it.
That's very young to have ridden this.
Personally better than Steel Vengeance or Iron Gwazi
Not for me, but I get why one could prefer this.
i like how people always point out how its the first 4th dimension coaster, but it does SO MUCH MORE
it was the first wing coaster
it was the first coaster that could invert seperately from the track
its the best hyper at MM
so much its done for the park
also im a type A person
I agree it did a lot of firsts.
this ride might just be the only ride i'm genuinely scarred of and I don't know why.
The restraints combined with the movement is definitely intimidating.
@@CanobieCoaster yeh for sure, I just have to get out of my head :-) I know I will love it so it’s just a matter of sitting down and letting the ride take over
I really wish S&S continued with this even though X2 is an Arrow
S&S still makes them, but they carry a hefty price tag.
@@CanobieCoaster I would love to see these at parks like Cedar Point
S&S will build them as they have built 2 and do all the servicing of X2s trains. It's a cost thing $45+ million for a ride is cost prohibitive for most parks as a B&M Giga runs only $30 million and probably less of a maintenance cost too.
I'm not first, not last, but like X2, I'm really imtimidating!
X2 is nuts.
As a Type “A” person I am offended by Six Flags
Shots fired!
I’ve only ridden this once back in 2018, front row, inside seat. Such a miserable experience. Roughest steel coaster I’ve ever ridden, and it’s in my bottom 3 coasters out of 208. Easily my least favorite coaster in the park
That's a bummer you didn't like it, but I can see how the bumpiness is an issue for others.
@@CanobieCoaster apparently I didn’t know how to ride it. After my ride, I heard that I needed to keep my legs extended forwards to minimize the chances of pain. I didn’t know this going in, so next time I ride it, I’ll be ready
Some of the pullouts, particularly that final raven turn will slam them back down anyways.
let me tell you this im 6ft1, the taller you are the more airtime you'll get since the harness only strap on to your shoulders
Makes sense!
1 train on X2 is a disgrace. This ride has disney level demand, on my one & only visit to Six Flags MM it was consistently a 2-3 hour wait the whole day. Not only should they be running all trains, they should be utilizing the unload platform. Only at Six Flags.
I'm fine using the one platform. Running one train on even slightly busy days is the bigger issue.
Not *that* intense… rode back outside seat last week. Tatsu and Riddler’s Revenge we’re more intense on the brain and body. Can’t beat the views of the first two drops
I think this is more intense than those 2.
🤕🤯😵💫 samurai HATED X2
That's a bummer.
