Loved recording the voice of Kaldalis for this project! The entire recording stage was set up with microphones so we could wander the room and play the scene as if we were on a film set! :)
That sounds completely awesome! I would love nothing more than to work on voices in such a setting! It clearly shows, and it’s wonderfully done! Thank you!
"An easy sentiment from one who is not SENDING them to die!" "From one who is being SENT to die!" "A world for ALL Protoss, once more" "Come back Artanis, lead us HOME." "MY Life for Auir" God, just the delivery of these lines alone are Oscar worthy
And it makes the meeting between Artanis and Zeratul shortly after (where Zeratul is saying the invasion must be paused, and Artanis responds that too much has been sacrificed and too many lives are now on the line to stop) all the more poignant.
Bartosz Skorupa humans would only unite if something bad happens(like wiping out more tha half the population). but we wont be as badass as kaldalis and artanis lol
Such a deeply religious and fanatical race. Seeing Artanis question the foolishness of his ancestors, and the importance of tradition, honor and sentiment when there is so much to lose is what made me really respect him as a character. Nothing interests me more than when a protagonist questions what is right and wrong, rather than the story being written in black and white. In the end, he still fights for what he believes is best for his people, while questioning the ways his own culture tends to think every step of the way.
***** I know they're a superior race, to question that would be extremely arrogant, at least in comparison to what humanity is portrayed as in this universe. But even they have their own flaws, which this video describes. It's like... "politics of the gods", if that makes any sense. They have their own sociological world, which in some ways is not too different from our own history. We unite each other with religion time and time again, but never fail to somehow find a way to destroy ourselves over it.
Well said sir. That also the reason why I like Artanus too. He does his actions for the sake of his people, he really has good traits of a leader. Also how he questions his actions and thinks before he acts, that is a good trait of any being. What is even better quality he has is his decision not to repeat history.
much wow True, but their mental abilities were much less complex in those times. The creation of the Khala enabled the Protoss to actually feel eachothers feelings, along with the ability to sort all of those countless voices and feelings and understand them all in an endless stream - a constant state of euphoria where a single person could know the exact thoughts and feelings of literally trillions of others within a certain range in distance while being able to process that data without being overwhelmed. Before that, the basics of Protoss telepathy could be compared to a text message. You cannot tell the tone and you cannot truly know if the message is a lie. With the Khala, it was impossible to lie. That's why Artanis goes through a bit of culture-shock when he goes around living without the Khala after being connected with it all his life prior - he said he feels so "dark and alone" like he's not really there anymore with his people even when physically being surrounded by them on his ship or on the battlefield. He goes through an interesting process of learning how to understand and trust the same kind of natural sense of empathy that we humans and the other Khala-less protoss have been relying on.
+Abraxisvirus He was an executor with aldaris sent by the conclave to advice him which is played by the player (You). Then became praetor when Aiur fell.
4:48 Kaldalis: "Come back, Artanis... lead us hooome." That yearning in his voice there always gets me. T.T Love the voice acting here in combination with the epic music in the background. My LIFE for AIUR!
I totally agree! It wasn't a simple request, but the tone contained a "Come on... you know that only you can lead us home, you know that you must." feeling. Simply amazing!
Pfft men aren't men. The nuances of these characters and races doesnt ascribe to the smallness of man women demo rep race religion. These are just better beings
Whenever I feel depressed, I come to one of the SC2 cinematics and just listen to it. Focus on everything in it and nothing else outside, trying to say quotes with the characters. I started crying midway through, when Kaldalis said "From one who is being sent to die". Even though I'm a Zerg at heart, I will always love the Protoss. So noble and proud. Something I could never be.
You truly have to admire Artanis as a leader. He is a warrior and will not hesitate to kill for the greater good, yet he has a high value for life and feels great responsiblity in sending his men into battle, into what is essentially a suicide mission. He doubts himself and his leadership by reflecting on the history of his people, fearing their destruction more than his own. Individuals like Artanis are a rare find, but one that should be cherished when met.
Such a beautiful hand drawn scene, where a follower, knowing full well he may be the first to die, restores faith in the one he follows. He restores that faith because his leader gave him cause to believe. "A world for all protoss." En taro Adun. En taro Tassadar. En taro Artanis.

+Wow Jedi We are the Kun'delar! The Spear of Justice! Fight for the Glory of our people, fight for the light of Saalok, Fight...for the Glory of the Protoss!
The most depressing part of this trailer is that Kaldalis actually did die in the story. One of the AI personalities in Fenix’s kit (who are based on dead protoss) is Kaldalis. We need a RIP for our one eyed Zealot. The tip of the spear.
The existence of a Purifier version of a Templar does not guarantee that the particular Templar is dead. While the likelihood that Kaldalis didn't survive the surface battle is high because being a vanguard deployed soldier pretty much almost guarantees that, it is still possible that he is alive as only the Purifiers posses the technology to copy personalities. Because contrary to what one might assume, Dragoons, Stalkers and Immortals are not copied personalities but a new mechanical body and the Templar inside are still the exact same original Templar before they got inserted into the mech. So if Kaldalis lived long enough, up to the point that Artanis found and reactivated the Purifiers then that would mean that Kaldalis is still alive. Because the Auir Reclamation happened before the Purifier Discovery and Reactivation. Because only then would they be able to copy his personality into the Purifier Database and not before that. Remember they copied Fenix when he got inserted into a Dragoon, which means his original body was already destroyed but his mind was intact. Of course the 99% copy would likely be impossible at that point. I believe the Khala had somehing to do with the precision of the copied personality, but that is no longer available to them since they've severed their Nerve Cords.
Yes, you can see here that Kaldalis has a zerg claw wound on his face, and one of his eyes is blinded. One of the Zealots in the opening cinematic has the same injuries. Kaldalis also said that he wanted to be among the first to land on Aiur, thus we can assume that squad of 3 Zealots, 2 High Templars, and 1 Probe were the "Tip of the Spear"
+DopestDope SquareEnix have thought of that too about their FF, but in the end, the movie production cost was even bring their studio to brink of destruction. so, well, umm...

I can't wait to see how the story of the protoss unfolds and i will micro my zergie heart out to help them reclaim their home! :) My life for aiur!
That one and his focus on the lives lost during the fall were the most impactful if you ask me. He is a very compassionate protoss who cares deeply about the lives of those under his command, not something you get to see often.
We knew not what we asked of them, our foolishness to believe in them only lead to our downfall, reforged, a disaster which swept across Earth. Wiping out millions of blizzard fans over the span of a few days. Truly, we have brought this cataclysm upon ourselves.
+Matej Polyak Lol, most of those heroes are dead, only a few of them became Martyrs, like Fenix, Raynor mentions him in HotS, also, The Confederacy and the UED are gone, they where wiped. Cerebrates are useless now, the Overmind is dead, and Kerrigan doesnt need them, the closest thing to a cameo was Daggoth's Brood.
tassadar was there in Wings of Liberty and passes on the final piece of the puzzle to Zeratul at the start of Legacy of the Void. WIth that final piece, Zeratul rushes to reach Artanis, who he believes will be critical in the final phase of the legend, along with Kerrigan.
Except the Quarian Fleet is just a bunch of civilian ships with large cannons sloppily tacked on. The Protoss Golden Armada is the single most powerful fleet in the Korprulu sector with the exception of the United Earth Dictoriate Expeditionary Fleet.
I honestly wish my brothers and sisters of all humanity would take this one cinematic into account. It just shows we are in this together no matter what. We are family, regardless.
+rjcripe Khalai Protoss (the regular ones) absorbs sunrays much like plants but in an far more effective manner, in one of the Dark Templar Saga books an Protoss prisoner was kept underground for a few days and was hardly able to stand on her own legs when she was brought to the surface. Dark Templars im not sure but it relates to their genetical difference from the rest, some extreme change made them be able to survive in areas without sun after their exile.
Well.......... It isn't really just two aliens isn't it? It's like the core philosophies of humanity as well. How you wouldn't want to send soldiers to their deaths, and how willing the soldiers are to serving their people.
zionchar11 Not even gonna press the issue. We're looking at a video about a sci-fi game, and we reach a discussion about politics. That's too quick of a discussion, if you ask me. Way beyond the topic I want to discuss, as well.
I've watched this a dozen times. Though this doesn't have fancy effects and CGI, that last line keeps giving me goosebumps. An epic legacy comes to a close.
Alistair Jephte Caseñas That's been cut, the developers admitted that they were wrong. Preators are lower on the ladder(rank) than executors. So you, as the player, couldn't have been Artanis since he would go from being an executor, a higher member of the hierarchy, to being a praetor.
Been almost 3 years since I saw this, and it still strikes me, the way Artanis says "My life for Auir" at the end. His voice seemed.. comforted, like his fears/self doubt was assuaged by Kaldalis and a great weight lifted off his chest.
The very fact that Artanis questioned the decision to commence the invasion shows that he was a better leader for the Protoss than his ancestors. The fact that he would deny himself the glory of retaking Aiur because it would cost too much, and the fact that he valued the unity of all the Protoss more than the possession of their homeworld showed that he is the leader that the Protoss needed to guide them to a better future. Artanis is easily one of my favorite Characters in Starcraft, and if anyone were to ask me why, I'd tell them to watch this cutscene. Not only is it great to hear him struggle with the fate of the Armada and the Protoss, but the fanaticisim that underlies almost the whole of Protoss history resonates really well with the history of our own world. He is exemplary of the outlook that we are now adopting, and he has an opportunity to promote the unity of the Protoss in a way that many of us Terrans can only dream of. En Taro Artanis!
"An easy sentiment from one who is not sending them to die!" "From one who is being SENT to die! I will be part of the first wave to spill Zerg blood. I am Tal Darim, the tip of the spear." I think that is my favorite part. Artanis is so scared that he is sending his people to their grave but Khaldaris knows his intentions are true and because of that he will lead the Protoss to glorious victory. I can't wait to see this story unfold as I play it
Regardless of Starcraft, that line shows that heroes like Kaldalis are the ones who allow freedom. Like another character in the game, Jim Raynor, who is famous for saying, "freedom is worth fighting for."
Bit confused here. So if Kerrigan's going off to fight Amon, won't the Zerg pretty much abandon Aiur and other worlds in order to bring their full strength? Or does Kerrigan not control the Zerg on / around Aiur?
+Frownigami Kerrigan has no love for the Protoss and many Protoss still despise her because of her role in the destruction of Aiur as the Queen of Blades. Also, she has no contorl on the Zerg on Aiur, though I think she could potentially reclaim the broods there, she has no reason to do so, or to let the Protoss retake it.
THE BEST CONVERSATION EVER!!! Suddenly my world is just all about this 5 minute and 27 seconds of emotional, proud and epic feeling. Once again we're really needed a movie of this legendary game.

I wish Kaldaris had shown up in the campaign. He seems pretty cool.
I read that as "Khardasians"... Wtf is wrong with my eyes.
+LieutenantAlaki like artansis said many do not survive the first wave....
Kaldaris totally would've.
+LieutenantAlaki he did in the opening cinematic he was the last zealot
But Kaldahlis die becuse he is an A.I in fenixses army.
3:54 . . My heart skipped a beat.
Years has past and this still touching
Artanis: "An easy sentiment from one who is not sending them to die!"
That's the most powerful line beside "My life for Aiur" in this trailer.
That was a very good line. But the counter argument of Kaldalis was the one that gave me chills.
That one and his focus on the lives lost during the fall were the most impactful if you ask me. He is a very compassionate protoss who cares deeply about the lives of those under his command, not something you get to see often.
This never gets old. Still sends chills.
This video is my motivation on hard days. Even after three years.
Dear starcraft writers,
please visit the warcraft department and save the game.
Thanks
Sadly they didn't listened lol.
Specifically the writers of this cinematic. Please kindly leave the ones who came up with Xel’naga Kerrigan and tentacled space satan at the door.
Before you send them to Warcraft, they should sit down in their own department and GIVE US MORE LORE
(Please make the Khalai Dictionary?)
Thanks... you turned Sylvanas into Kerrigan.
We knew not what we asked of them, our foolishness to believe in them only lead to our downfall, reforged, a disaster which swept across Earth. Wiping out millions of blizzard fans over the span of a few days. Truly, we have brought this cataclysm upon ourselves.
This is some of the best dialog ever in StarCraft II.
Now this is a good story.
+MrDarkenson they pretty much told a hour's worth of story in the deepest 5 mins you could ever get.....
+Matej Polyak But there were arbiters in the ending scene, doesn't that count as something? :L
+Matej Polyak
Lol, most of those heroes are dead, only a few of them became Martyrs, like Fenix, Raynor mentions him in HotS, also, The Confederacy and the UED are gone, they where wiped.
+MrDarkenson no it's not lol. the story has not been good since brood war.

Artanis: Sorry, what? Was just checking my Protoss watch.
He have a mass rellay on his back. Starcraft - Mass Effect crossover confirmed.
Stargate*
+TheTeslaEffect11 Rather Xel'naga. Protoss are more like Quarians :P
Except the Quarian Fleet is just a bunch of civilian ships with large cannons sloppily tacked on.
The Protoss Golden Armada is the single most powerful fleet in the Korprulu sector with the exception of the United Earth Dictoriate Expeditionary Fleet.
They more like a combination of Turian and Asari wielding tech that makes the Proteans look like Krogans.
Poor protoss. They always have to struggle to survive. No matter what. Nothing gives them a break.
"My life for Aiur" I never have thought the true meaning of that chant until I saw this video.
I honestly wish my brothers and sisters of all humanity would take this one cinematic into account. It just shows we are in this together no matter what. We are family, regardless.
DEATH TO THE COMMIE HERETICS
EXILE THEM TO THE MOON
MY LIFE FOR URTHAAAA
This is based upon the teachings of Hinduism..... The Vedantic philosophies....
My life...for Terra.
I think the question we are all hoping Legacy of the Void will answer is just how exactly do the Protoss eat?
+rjcripe tru
+rjcripe photosynthesis or a form of it
+rjcripe and reproduce.
+rjcripe Straws
About 50% of these comments are "My Life for Aiur!"
+Caleb Yu if you were standing there, in that moment, you would say the same :)
4 words....a lifetime's worth of meaning.
+Caleb Yu *My wife for hire !*
+Caleb Yu And you comment is 50% "My life for Aiur!". How ironic.
+Caleb Yu Never before has the phrase had so much meaning.
All they say in this video is so deep...makes me shiver everytime i look at it and listen to it...
I pray that protoss with the missing eye is a major character, he is badass here and he is BADASS in the cinematic trailer
+Skittlez12350 He'll definitely be a hero Zealot.
+Skittlez12350 Guess he is the replacement for Fenix
***** no one can replace fenix D:
I swear that is more than 200 supply of ships at the end.
Must be 2v2
David Harford hax
So many years later...still gives me goosbumps
This is how you incorporate exposition powerfully.
i love when Kaldalis confident enough that he had delivered his point... then, said "my life for aiur", then teleports...
This is by far my favorite Starcraft cinematic/trailer of all time, it's a fantastic form of foreshadowing.
Shut up and take my minerals!!! :D
I love this so much. It's not even fully animated. And it carries so much weight and power. Imagine if this was a scene in the StarCraft movie.
Gotta watch this again 5 years later
God this made me cry.
I mean uh... I'd assume we retake Aiur about half-way through in the campaign, so we get a story of taking on Amon.
+Toa Onua 5:13 The massive size of the Golden Armada just made me squeal in an ecstatic way.
+Toa Onua im pretty sure that taking it is the 1st mission
+Abraxisvirus and then Amon makes a mess of things
+Toa Onua Perhaps it'll pull a mass effect and Amon will make his final stand on Aiur.
+Toa Onua I think it's actually the first three missions of the campaign are reclaiming Aiur.
"I've Lived for Aiur"
"Complete the Protoss campaign on brutal difficulty without letting a single Protoss die."
:P
There is actually someone who managed to do that

Everytime I’m using Tempests and hear them say “the Golden Armada awaits” this moment comes to my mind 5:15
well poops.. I'm all emotional because of some space aliens without lips emoting the shit out of em selves ;(
Well.......... It isn't really just two aliens isn't it? It's like the core philosophies of humanity as well. How you wouldn't want to send soldiers to their deaths, and how willing the soldiers are to serving their people.
+KeViNZP murica?
zionchar11 They'd rather have their soldiers come back alive. Who wouldn't?
KeViNZP well... I don't like to debate on this but they tend to send soldiers on things that not even exist... *cough* uranium on iraq *cough*
zionchar11 Not even gonna press the issue.
8 years later the protoss lore is still incredible
Artanis look wiser and stronger now compared to the one on Broad War.
+Moses Wong He was a mere scout back then in Brood war.
he may had been an scout only, but wasnt that bad to be the youngest preator ever
I think that an average protoss can live up to 1500 years...so he is pretty young
+Mauricio Alejandro Rivera Miraval And in vanilla SC1, you ARE Artanis.
Alistair Jephte Caseñas That's been cut, the developers admitted that they were wrong. Preators are lower on the ladder(rank) than executors. So you, as the player, couldn't have been Artanis since he would go from being an executor, a higher member of the hierarchy, to being a praetor.
2020 and it still gives me chills.
Jesus, absolute chills at the ending!
FOR AIUR!
Wow Jedi
Saying that battlecry while putting Taunt on others. LOL how bold indeed.
+MarkaNLNL
Nakh' Ungala! (Dragoon)
One of the most epic conversations in SC II, at least for me. Reminds me of the old sc with brilliant voice acting and sentences.
THE VOICE ACTING ITS TOTALLY ON POINT...PERFECT IN MY OPINION
This scene, always sends a tear to my eye. I'd gladly repeat "My Life for aiur"
"To make a world for all Protoss once more. You made me believe in that" - me in tears, I'll admit it 😭
Been almost 3 years since I saw this, and it still strikes me, the way Artanis says "My life for Auir" at the end.
"An easy sentiment from one who is not sending them to die!"
"From one who is being SENT to die! I will be part of the first wave to spill Zerg blood. I am Tal Darim, the tip of the spear."
I think that is my favorite part. Artanis is so scared that he is sending his people to their grave but Khaldaris knows his intentions are true and because of that he will lead the Protoss to glorious victory. I can't wait to see this story unfold as I play it

Hah. What a twist if he actually was Taldarim
This dialogue is legendary.
after 15 years sounds clear to me "my life for aiur"😊
what?
Really? xD well at least you didn't hear it in spanish (mi vida por auir) xD
I don't even play starcraft but those last words made me tear up :c
Regardless of Starcraft, that line shows that heroes like Kaldalis are the ones who allow freedom. Like another character in the game, Jim Raynor, who is famous for saying, "freedom is worth fighting for."
I just love the protoss dialogues. They always give me chills. Much props goes to the writers and voice actors for a job well done.
Bit confused here. So if Kerrigan's going off to fight Amon, won't the Zerg pretty much abandon Aiur and other worlds in order to bring their full strength? Or does Kerrigan not control the Zerg on / around Aiur?
may be zergs in aiur arw controlled by amon
+Frownigami Kerrigan has no love for the Protoss and many Protoss still despise her because of her role in the destruction of Aiur as the Queen of Blades.
Also, she has no contorl on the Zerg on Aiur, though I think she could potentially reclaim the broods there, she has no reason to do so, or to let the Protoss retake it.
+Frownigami the overmind even though dead, still attracts leaderless broods of zerg to it
+Frownigami The Zerg on Auir are mindless beast, they have no central Hivemind like the swarm.
im wondering the exact same question.
4:42 artanis remembering Tassadar and his mision also his sacrafice. Why nobody get realized about these curiosity.
THE BEST CONVERSATION EVER!!! Suddenly my world is just all about this 5 minute and 27 seconds of emotional, proud and epic feeling. Once again we're really needed a movie of this legendary game.
One of the best dialouges ever written.
Bro, that soundtrack at the end of the trailer... so powerfull!
omg! I just keep coming back and replay the video over and over again for hours, just can't get enough of it, this is the most epic argument ever!
who elses cried with this?
please blizzard. make movies!
Brought a tear to me eye..
I literally cried a little when Artanis looked at Aiur with his eyes opened wide and said "a world for all Protoss once more."
