Been awhile since we had a good Three Houses dub comic. Sylvain is actually one of my favorite characters in the series as he's complex character with a sad background, abused by his older brother, not actually liking any of the women he flirts with or takes on dates (because he knows that most of the women he dates are only interested in his crest along with the noble status it comes with; which also causes him to question his worth as a person), but he's surprisingly smart as he can solve complex problems quickly and a reliable friend, also I ship him with Mercedes since she understands how he feels.
I have a hard time liking Sylvain, because it'd be one thing if he were approached by the women he flirts with, but it's actually always the other way around. He approaches them to flirt and go out on a date, and then breaks it off or cheats to make them break it off and then acts like they're the ones with the problem. He's basically going out on the offensive to hurt as many women as he can. I find his misogyny to be nigh unforgivable. And it'd be fine if the story ever treated this negative trait as a negative trait, but he's never called out on it (except by Ingrid, but that's only for comedy), never suffers any kind of consequences for it, and never begins to regret he did it. Felix might be a sourpuss, but at least he's not full of crap like Sylvain.
I thought I was going to dislike both Sylvain and Felix, but they were better written than I was expecting. I was thoroughly pleased when both exceeded my expectations and became some of my favorite characters instead.
I really like how the performance for Byleth really captures her stoic disposition. Although she doesn't display much emotion on the outside due to having trouble emoting, she does care about her students deep down and is rather sympathetic about Sylvain's situation.
Poor Sylvain, he had it so rough, it's not easy to discard the coping mechanisms that made him endure most of his life! He's one of my favourite characters in the game, Claude scoring just a tad higher, beyond the surface, he's a good guy.
Sylvain is one of my favorites. On my active units every playthrough. At first he seems like a total player but once you actually get to know him, there is so much more.
