Great subject and very thorough!! All totally made sense I didn’t feel like you bounced around at all! Sharing this video with some family that was asking me about this. And this is first I heard of the mineral oil! Maybe it’s more effective than the natural bloom and that’s why it lasts longer?? Great share, Sammie! 😊👍❤️
Thank you Tammy! Maybe so. I haven't figured out that mineral out yet.😂😂 I feel an experiment coming on. 🤔 Thank you so much also for sharing. i appreciate you! ❤🎀
What do you think about washing your eggs off even though they are farm fresh then using mineral oil and water glassing them? If you can’t see where the Bloom may have been rubbed off or crud washed off to put an artificial Bloom over the eggs then glassing them does that work OK.?
That is an EXCELLENT question!!! I am now wondering the same thing! Let me do some research and get back with you on that one. If anyone else reading this knows the answer, PLEASE give us your input.
Ok, did some research and from what I have read the lime shouldn't effect the oil on the eggs. So I guess it would be ok to do this. I mean you're going to know if the egg went bad by the smell. I'm feeling an experiment coming on......
Water glass eggs, when you start to use them do you clean them all or just pull out what you need and use them one at a time? sounds crazy but I have mine in my food pantry and didn't know if we should clean some as use them or just get what I need.
Are you talking about pulling them out of the water glassing jar to eat &/or use in recipes?? I just pull out how ever many I need one at a time whether it's one or a dozen and wash them off. I hope that's what you were asking. If not, please let me know. I don't pull any out that I'm not going to use that day. ~Sammie 😁
@@bluefeatherhomestead that's what I wanted to know I have a large pickle size jar that we need to start using them so I didn't know if I could pull out what I need or should clean.them and put in refrigerator.
I get farm fresh from a farmer but he usually gives me way to many at certain times of the year, he washes them and refrigerates them, can I still treat them with Mineral Oil ? they are in the refrigerator on average of about 2 weeks till I get them.
That is truly an excellent question. You know I have seen & heard of people using mineral oil on store bought eggs and it working & those are a lot older than a couple of weeks. I would give it a go if it were me. I usually try to have mine eaten within a couple of weeks after washed but have been just fine after 4 weeks. ~I wish I had a more definite answer for you. but I can only give you my food for thought on that one.
Great question. No. If you wash it, it will wash off the bloom & the lime will seep in. You can use mineral oil on the ones you have to wash and that replaces the bloom.
That is a great question. Someone had just asked this same question, but it's gone for some reason. I would oil them and skip the glassing if it were me. Just to be on the safe side. Even though the oil is like the bloom on the egg, I would just be wondering if Lyme could seep through the shell somehow. That is a very good question & I almost want to test it out!!! Thanks for asking.
I can't seem to find a local farm that is set up for their laying hens not to get poo on the eggs. Can I wash them then coat with the oil then water glass them?
if you add mineral oil it lasts 9 months to a year, ive dobe it myself..reason being, the mineral oiil blocks all air from entering..unlike the original bloom
@@bluefeatherhomestead np the original bloom that covers the egg still allows oxygen to pass into the egg thus allowing the egg to hatch. If you immediately wash off the bloom, replace it with a mineral well that egg will no longer hatch because you sealed off the air “vents” located on the eggshell

Ok to wash and then put mineral oil, then glass them from the start. Does that work ok?

Well I'm in the process of trying to store eggs that have been washed, I'm guessing they are no more than 1 or 2 weeks old I'll keep you informed .
Question if an egg is dirty there's no way to clean it so you can water glass it
Great question. No. If you wash it, it will wash off the bloom & the lime will seep in. You can use mineral oil on the ones you have to wash and that replaces the bloom.
I have duck eggs, and they are often dirty. Can I wash, then oil, then water glass? How can I deal with the extra dirty condition?

***Any other viewers have any suggestions? They would be greatly appreciated.*** Has anyone washed, oiled & then water glassed??? TIA
