    This video is 2½ years old, but it popped up in my recommendations today, just as I am starting to work on a wizard cape for my nephew. It is perfect timing for how to sew the hem on the stretchy fabric that he wants me to use. Thanks, karma, and thank you, Shelly!

    Nice demo. One of my favorite feet. I like the way you hold your fingers/hands..will try the “V” shape . Thanks!

    Another great, informative video. I can't wait to try this, and using the water soluble stabilizer is a wonderful idea. Thanks Shelly!

    Thank you for the video! A couple questions, though, please...
    Does this technique work on a regular 5mm Bernina without dual feed?
    How would the needle positions change? I don’t think my 5mm Bernina has as many needle positions as your machine?
    I don’t have that plastic stabilizer product... would using a straight stitch throat plate do the same thing (prevent the fabric being sucked down through the plate)?
    THANK YOU SO MUCH!

      This technique would work great on a 5mm BERNINA without Dual Feed. you have 9 needle positions. 4 clicks to the left, center and 4 clicks to the right. You would still start with 3 to the left and then 4 to the left. Of course you may decide to use different settings when you create you sample to see what looks the best.
      You cannot use a 0 mm throat plate for this technique because you are moving the needle position. You could start and stop on a piece of thin tissue like you wrap in packages or lightweight tearaway stabilizer or even a piece of printer paper. You do not sew onto the stabilizer or paper very far.

      Oh Shelly, thank you so much for the reply! That was just what I needed to know! (And DUHHHH - I can't believe I didn't think of the needle positions when I asked about the straight stitch throat plate... please forgive!!!) Anyway, thanks so much - and I am enjoying your channel very much!

    Thankyou. Great video. What thread did you use.? Will definitely use this method.

      The thread would be totally dependent on the fabric. It might be you need a thin slick thread and a small needle on chiffon or silky.

    What's with the blue painters tape on the feet in your videos?

      LOL. I travel and teach all over. I mark my feet with the blue tape so they come home with me! Learned the hard way after having to purchase new feet along the way!

    When you say tension, do you mean pressure foot tension?

    • @SewShelly
      @SewShelly  6 років тому

      No. I am changing the upper thread tension. With some fabrics changing the presser foot pressure may be a great help also.
